Updates:
Heavy rocket fire erupted from Gaza shortly after the official end time of the truce.
After three days of quiet, the Israeli military said, at least 18 rockets were fired at 8 a.m. and in the hour afterward. Two were intercepted by Israel’s antimissile defense system over Ashkelon, the military said, while 14 others fell in open ground, causing no injury or damage, and two landed short in the Gaza Strip. The military also reported two launchings of rockets or mortar shells from Gaza before dawn. …
Just at 8 a.m., as television correspondents stood on the beachside road in Gaza City to do their live reports, the first rocket was fired. The signature white plume of the Israeli interception was visible in the air for miles. A few more booms were heard in the next 15 minutes, but they hardly disrupted the trickle of donkey carts on the street.
Air raid sirens have wailed in Ashkelon and in Gaza-border communities almost without end since 8 am, with more than 35 rockets and mortars fired on Israel within four hours; two casualties were reported.
Shortly before noon, Gaza militants launched a salvo on the Sdot Negev Regional Council – six rockets fell in open areas. Two people were injured – a soldier and a civilian – from a rocket near the entrance to a community in Sha’ar HaNegev Regional Council. They are both in light condition.

Time to take out the trash!
Jesus H. Christ. We knew this was going to happen. We knew if because this is how Islamists behave, and Hamas is an Islamist offspring of the Muslim Brotherhood.
God bless Israel.
And now, time for the regularly scheduled round of international “Thank you Sir, may I have another?”
I think the fighting is only going to end when one side or the other is wiped out.
Short of a massive insurgence within arab/muslim ranks to change how things are going, I do not see this ending very well at all.
Shocking.
Israel really should have given Hamas the Iron Dome system — though programmed to operate in reverse.
Apparently Hamas just really didn’t like this concept that it was expected to negotiate a longer term ceasefire while it wasn’t firing rockets at Israel. That left the wrong impression. Their position, after all, is obvious: we, Hamas, are winning, and you, Israel, are making concessions to stop us from winning more.
I am not sure what Hamas is thinking. Hamas may not even be sure. They may just be following orders from Iran.
What is important is not what Hamas thinks but what Israel does. The Israeli’s need the courage to end this problem militarily despite the caterwauling of the Western News media.
Well, to be fair to SOME of the Western Mushroom Media types, they have been coming forward with accounts of how HAM-ass sat on them and threatened them with a violent death if they reported candidly from Gaza.
Plus, there is no doubt in anybody’s mind who had a working brain that HAM-ass is doing exactly what Israel has said they do, and the press is confirming this…if reluctantly.
Another “plus,” with Israel masterfully predicting that Hamas will break the cease-fire, and – with no small amount of forbearance, no doubt – holding their own position (i.e. not advancing or attacking), they remove any pretext for Hamas or the media to claim they’re provoking/inciting Hamas to attack.
And then they let the attack continue for a couple hours, just to drive the point home.
It’s a risk to their own people, but it’s good to see they have the intestinal fortitude (“guts”) to do it anyway.
