The silence of Western feminists is deafening

The silence of Western feminists is deafening

It’s not “Islamophobic” to stand up for the rights of women in the Muslim world.

http://youtu.be/9WijI2U7dKY

The last time we visited the Dominican Republic, the only English-language news channel in the hotel was CNN-International. Which is like not having access to the news.

This time, however, all of the major network and cable news channels were carried.

I saw this live on Megyn Kelly’s show, and found it of great interest.

Here’s the trailer from The Honor Diaries:

It’s been an untouchable subject to date.

Every tiny slight that take place in Israel gets a U.N. resolution, but the problems in the Muslim world are largely ignored or silenced by claims of Islamophobia.

It’s not Islamophobic to stand up for the rights of women in the Muslim world.

The silence of Western feminists is deafening.

Organizations such as NOW are bought and paid for by the Democratic Party. They will not deviate from Party Dialectic.

I watched both videos and neither one mentions NOW. I lost respect for now when they endorsed Obama as a feminist (which he most certainly is not), but I still think it’s important to point out that the group is not mentioned in the videos so I’m not sure why you brought them up.

      sequester in reply to gxm17. | April 5, 2014 at 4:11 pm

I brought up NOW because the title of this article is “The silence of Western feminists is deafening”. NOW purports to be a feminist organization.

In reality NOW is an arm of the Democratic Party. Its real mission is to demonize Republicans and scare women into voting for Democratic Party candidates.

NOW has repeatedly stood mute over misogyny committed by Democrats. It stands mute in the face Islamic misogyny.

stevewhitemd in reply to sequester. | April 5, 2014 at 5:58 pm

It’s not just NOW. I haven’t heard a a single major western women’s organization, or a single prominent woman Democrat, denounce this.

    Perhaps we could ask Hillary.

Barack Obama won’t shut up at home about the alleged “Republican war on women,” which means they don’t get free abortions, but can’t be troubled to bring up the subject with the Saudi King, whose female subjects may be beaten on the street for being seen unescorted in public.

All Democrats are lying scum. Every last stinkin’ one of them. Those who don’t want to be liars still enable the rest.

Uncle Samuel in reply to Estragon. | April 5, 2014 at 2:46 pm

It’s not all Democrats lying about Islam and its human rights abuses, racism, misogyny, violence, supremacism, aggression, etc. that are built into the core texts, doctrines and practices of Islam.

I will never forgive George W. Bush for lies touting Islam as a religion of peace on the US right after 9/11/01 or for shipping boatloads of money to corrupt Islamists and committing the US to a two state solution in Israel… and for sacrificing the blood of soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan for nothing…except to facilitate human, porn and drug traffickers.

Or John McCain for lying about the faux Syrian Rebels who are really Al Queda jihadis from all over the world.

Or Hillary for her duplicity about the activities in Benghazi, Libya and Bill Clinton for sacrificing Christians to Islamists in Bosnia and other countries.

Or Obama and his allegiance to Islamic terrorism.

Oikophobia makes for some rather strange bedfellows.

Progressive Western Feminist Ladies:

Here’s Everything You Always Needed to Know about Islamic Treatment of Women* But Were Afraid of Believing.

You may find fond amusement at first, thinking your old-world Muslim chauvinist lover is naively, but endearingly searching the wrong end for your G-Spot, as you assume he assumes your clitoris was long ago removed.

And then you’ll laugh to yourself as his foreplay progresses; “My goodness! He thinks I’m into erotic asphyxiation. I’m not, but how thoughtful and considerate of him!”

And, at the climax of this odd, opposites-attract pairing, you’ll indeed be screaming, “Oh my God! Oh my God!” as you are the last in the world to realize it’s just plain old asphyxiation … no rocks in the bedroom being readily available.

sbdivemaster | April 5, 2014 at 3:21 pm

Of course, CAIR doesn’t object to the message; they just want to shoot the messenger… literally.

I can only imagine that you folks don’t know a lot of feminists. Most of the feminists I hang out with are well aware of the Islamic misogynistic atrocities. As they are aware of Christian misogyny. They don’t in any way support either and they certainly don’t have a problem with movies, or any other effort, that educate and inform the public about these pervasive and intolerable injustices.

    LukeHandCool in reply to gxm17. | April 5, 2014 at 4:13 pm

Here on the progressive Left Coast, I shiver and shudder as I adjust my rudder to navigate the treacherous feminist speech-and-thought-police shoals.

Thus, I can only imagine that you, Folk, are the one who perhaps knows a lot of feminists, but doesn’t really know them well.

    Christian misogyny?

You there, Scalawag. You shall walk the PC plank … and be forced to descend into the dark depths of the Sea of MSNBC … where disgraced misogynistic male hosts forever live in infamy.

    n.n in reply to gxm17. | April 5, 2014 at 4:44 pm

Are you referring to the Christian morality which denies women the right to commit murder/abortion for money, sex, ego, and convenience? Which on its own is simply murder, but when normalized (i.e. state-sponsored) represents an unprecedented violation of human rights. Or perhaps the opposition to normalization of dysfunctional behaviors which are antithetical to evolutionary fitness and human rights? Or is it opposition to redistributive change in order to lift the burden from women and their “friend with benefits” (aka “man”), so that they can indulge in self-gratifying behaviors?

Women should remain available for sex and taxable activities, not by choice, but by “right”. They should take comfort in the myth of spontaneous conception. They should embrace flesh peddlers and pornographers who emphasize that they are merely a sum of their parts; and pro-choice/abortion advocates who emphasize that their lives, our lives, have no intrinsic value, and are merely commodities throughout our evolution, from conception to death.

Generational feminists support all of these human and civil rights violations. They are sympathetic not only in principle but in practice. It’s interesting to note that this is a generational phenomenon, and that yesterday’s “progressive” is today’s conservative. It is also a corporate phenomenon, which has been established as “principled” planks of the Democrat Party. Whether for sex, money, ego, convenience, or population control, women and men have been mislead and exploited with “good” intentions.

      gxm17 in reply to n.n. | April 5, 2014 at 10:58 pm

Like Islam, Christianity is a religion with the foundational tenet that women are inferior to men. They are both wrong and they are both used to excuse injustice and atrocities. Right now, we have Christians actively engaged in legalizing discrimination against women and there is a good chance they will win and women’s rights will, yet again, be deemed less important than a Christian’s faith that women are property and not autonomous beings deserving of the same rights and respect as men.

Denying the need for women’s reproductive health is an incredibly misogynistic injustice. Individual women are capable of making their own decisions. Women who, for religious reasons, do not want to use birth control are free to make that choice. Likewise, women who want to use birth control should be free to make their own health care choice. I don’t understand why religious people aren’t content to practice their beliefs without imposing them on others.

        Radegunda in reply to gxm17. | April 5, 2014 at 11:55 pm

Which Christians are denying women the right to use birth control? If a particular church doesn’t approve of birth control, any woman is free to leave that church. The same is emphatically not true of Islam.

If a woman’s employer offers insurance that doesn’t include “coverage” for birth control (which is an absurd use of insurance dollars), or doesn’t include abortifacients, any woman is entirely free to purchase those herself — just as people who are self-employed pay the entire cost of their own health needs. If a woman “can’t afford” the modest cost of birth control, she is free to ask the man (men) involved to help pay for it, or else no action. Feminists demand that strangers not involved in the action subsidize it.

Feminists used to assert that women don’t need men to make it through life. Now, feminists are engaging in the shameful spectacle of demanding that the government compel men they don’t know, and other women, to pay the relatively modest expense of contraceptives. Feminists are now posing as helpless girls.

          gxm17 in reply to Radegunda. | April 6, 2014 at 12:38 am

You might have a point if the same employer denied all reproductive health care, not just picking and choosing what they want to withhold from their female employees’ health care coverage. Let the men buy their own Viagra. If they can’t afford it then their partner can help pay for it. Right?

Employers offer health insurance as part of a compensation package. Like salary, and vacation and sick leave, it is something an employee earns. It’s not a “subsidy” any more than a paycheck is. FTR, most employees pay into their premium, they *are* paying for it.

And lastly, employers who take action to legalize discrimination but then turn around and invest in the very methods of birth control they claim to oppose for religious reasons are nothing more than greedy, hypocritical liars. Isn’t there a commandment or two about that?

    genes in reply to gxm17. | April 5, 2014 at 7:42 pm

They may not support either but they certainly DO NOT condemn the oppression and murder of women under Islam. Just that by fringe Christian groups like the FLDS, which may oppress women but does not murder them.

      gxm17 in reply to genes. | April 5, 2014 at 10:41 pm

The feminists I know condemn the oppression and murder of women under Islam. Actually, it’s a frequent topic of concern. I know that when I bring it up, I’m usually stonewalled by conservatives and anti-feminists, not feminists. Which is why this whole “feminists don’t care about Muslim women” comes across, to me, as completely disingenuous. It seems to me to be a convenient (and unsupported) stick for the folks on the right to beat imaginary *feminists* up with.

As previously mentioned I personally find NOW to be a sadly ineffective group. That said, they did support the Girls Protection Act which would have made it a crime to transport girls out of the country to perform FMG. They also supported H. Res 32. From their site: “The United States must call strongly for the protection of the millions of women who will become victims of stoning, stabbing, maiming, forced suicide, beheadings, acid throwing and many other cruel punishments with the false justification of “family honor.” Further, we must condemn the worldwide epidemic of domestic violence, and the rape of civilian and military women as a common weapon in war.”

Juba Doobai! in reply to gxm17. | April 6, 2014 at 10:56 am

You’re lying like a rug. If feminists discuss the plight of women in Islamic countries, they do it as a silent thought exercise.

Spiny Norman in reply to gxm17. | April 7, 2014 at 4:15 pm

The feminists I know condemn the oppression and murder of women under Islam.

Perhaps in private, among themselves… but not in public – and certainly never anywhere when Muslims might hear them.

Juba Doobai! in reply to gxm17. | April 5, 2014 at 10:26 pm

What Christian misogyny do you speak of?

Is it the kind where women:
    1. Must wear sheets over their heads when they go outside?
    2. Cannot go outside without a male relative?
    3. Are beaten by religious authorities if they are found outside alone?
    4. Can be beaten by their husband with a whip no bigger than his pinkie?
    5. Are forced to have sex with their husbands because rape is a part of marriage?
    6. Are not permitted to drive?
    7. Need their husband’s or father’s permission to travel outside the country?
    8. Suffer serious sexual abuse just for being in a crowd of men?
    9. Can be divorced via text message?
    10. Are deprived of their children and livelihood in divorce?
    11. Must walk ten paces behind their lord and master?
    12. Can be slaughtered by their families for having stained the family’s “honor”?
    13. Are sent out by their husbands as homicide bombers because they had an affair?
    14. Must be segregated from men in their place of worship?
    15. Have no rights at all?
    16. Are used only as child-bearers whilst their husbands go to men for sexual pleasure?

Oh! Silly me! You must be talking about the Church of Rome which, consistent with Scripture, does not allow women priests. Oh, the misogyny of it!

“Most of the feminists I hang out with are well aware of the Islamic misogynistic atrocities.”

They’re busy wringing their hands and circulating a petition with all of their friends on Facebook and via email.

Thank you for this article. For 8 years I have despaired that these topics will ever hit anything resembling the media. Yes, the mind-numbing silence of the feministas, Now is but yet another militant arm of the ultra-left. But..wait…it is their culture–who are we to judge? We have so many microagressions here, they might say.
Yes, I would be dead in about a week if I lived even in Dearbornistan MI.

Western feminists are silent because it’s happening to third world women, not to their Sorority sisters.

Quite simple….”the enemy of my enemy is my friend.” And no one hates traditional America more than the nation’s leftists.

Radegunda in reply to xsnake. | April 6, 2014 at 12:00 am

Exhibit A: gxm17 apparently can’t criticize virulent Islamic misogyny without making the preposterous claim that Christians are just as bad (because some Christian employers would rather not pay for their employees’ abortifacients … – oh the horror!).

      gxm17 in reply to Radegunda. | April 6, 2014 at 1:00 am

Actually, these were my words: “Like Islam, Christianity is a religion with the foundational tenet that women are inferior to men. They are both wrong and they are both used to excuse injustice and atrocities.”

I am sure that there are individual Christians and individual Muslims who are very nice, just and kind people. I’ve even met some of them. But you will need a much deeper premise than the one you have presented to refute that neither Islamic nor Christian religions have been used as excuses for violence and oppression towards women and girls.

Juba Doobai! in reply to gxm17. | April 6, 2014 at 11:02 am

Try reading the Bible and stop slandering Christians,

Spiny Norman in reply to gxm17. | April 7, 2014 at 4:24 pm

Your attempt at moral equivalency is genuinely laughable.

I’m curious, have you ever set foot outside the sheltered cloister of the liberal arts campus? Show us where Christians are committing anything remotely similar to the routine, and routinely horrific, violence against women in Islamic countries. An employer refusing to pay for a woman’s abortifacients is not the same as 50 lashes for appearing out side the home unveiled.

Juba Doobai! | April 5, 2014 at 10:34 pm

It’s all about racism, though I hate to make that claim. Feminists are Democrats. There is no party more racist than the Democrat party. Their view of colored peoples is abysmal. Their level of expectation of colored peoples is equally abysmal. Democrats think that many, because of their race, cannot but be the barbarians that they are. Therefore, when colored people engage in unfortunate behaviors, Democrats won’t condemn because that is colored people’s acting true to form. So, NOW and other feminists will remain silent on Islamic misogyny, though they know all about it, as our new commenter has indicated, because to the Democrat mind, that is what that group of colored people are about: the hard core oppression of women, and nobody can expect them to change.

What happens when the unfortunate behavior comes from a Western group of European genesis? Expect the Democrats to rant and rave cuz Europeans are more civilized and know better.

Think I’m kidding? Look closely at the Democrats, how they radically differ in their treatment and expectations of the different racial groups.

LukeHandCool | April 6, 2014 at 1:36 pm

@gxm17

I think you need to get out more and meet some typical, contemporary American Christians.

I am not a Christian, but I’ve had numerous interactions with some very devoted ones. My opinion about them is along the same lines as that of our dearly departed German Shepherd, Sebastian.

He was huge, but also the sweetest dog I’ve ever come across. There wasn’t a mean bone in his body.

Because of his intimidating physical stature, strangers would often ask, “Is he friendly?”

To which I’d answer, “Well, there is the danger that he could lick you to death.”
