WWII and Lincoln Memorial Barricade Showdowns – Live Updates

WWII and Lincoln Memorial Barricade Showdowns – Live Updates

Obama administration already sending in reinforcements

Obama has barricaded the World War II Memorial for not good reason.

The excuse that the government needed people on duty who knew CPR was laughable — the Memorial is open-air and open to the public 24 hours a day, even though previously staffed only part of the day.

There is a protest planned at the WWII Memorial and the Lincoln Memorial today. We will update (new updates at top):

RE: WWII Memorial Shut Down – IF THE SHUT DOWN WASN’T PLANNED BY o-bow-mao – how did closed signs get made & put up in less than 8 hours ?????? nothing in US GOV happens that fast !!!!!!!

The government has no business telling us that we can not visit these public memorials. Just go in. Let Holder take us all to court.

Not A Member of Any Organized Political | October 2, 2013 at 9:46 am

Why aren’t these public memorials staffed full time by
NON-PAID VOLUNTEERS????????????????????????????????????

Try understand that Demoncrats and Barry-Katie!

I used to work near those memorials. They are outdoors. They do not normally have much of any kind of staff, except maintenance.

There action to put barricades around these outdoor monuments required planning expenses, not to mention pay for individuals and materials, and there will be costs to take down the barriers.

If I were a publicity hound, I would file a FOIA request for the paperwork and costs of this bureaucratic propaganda, and then I would hold a press conference on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, with a nice shot of the barricades behind me. I might even carry a nice, red bs flag with me. I might say something like this:

“This is your Federal government, spending extra funds, for propaganda about the Shutdown. There are names associated with this decision, and documents and costs, and planning. I want to know the names of who did this, and what it cost.”

“The House of Representatives, in a proper exercise of its Constitutional power of the purse, has passed budget after budget that the Democratic Senate has failed to approve. We haven’t had a budget in X years, which is statutorily required. This is a failure on the part of the Democrats. ”

“Now, this executive branch, run by a Democratic bunch of political appointees, is making irrational decisions. We need to know who these people are, so we can either persuade them to do their duty or remove them. I want names.”

“The House of Representatives has shown itself willing to fund the the government, but requires re-tooling or repeal of a disasterous, unimplementable piece of legislation. If the President and the Senate are unwilling to accept that the legislation is defective, we would remind the President and the Senate Majority leader that elections have consequences, and, to paraphrase President Obama, “We won.”

“The Obamacare act” is defective, and we all know it. Instead of prancing around and making dubious emotional points, the President and the Senate Democrats need to come clean and take the very valid points the Republicans make into consideration. If they’d done that in the first place, this problem could have been avoided.”

Is this THE comment of the day, year and mid to last portion of the 20th Century, or what!

I read somewhere that Normandy Beach was closed when they got there–they opened it too.

This is so incredibly stupid of the Obama administration, but what else is new. Think of the money they are spending on manpower, machinery, and material to block off something that is wide open. This act against Vets, against all Americans, totally demonstrate the mean-spirited pettiness that is so characteristic of Barack Hussein Obama. Never was a president so petty, so little, so vindictive in his effort to make the opposition look bad.

another reason why I oppose the feds owning so much state land, stuff like this.

Wow. The democrats are really stupid enough to double-down on elderly vets.

Jawdropping stupidity on display.

Yes, O and Reid deserve the blame; but UNFORTUNATELY Republicans seem to be knee deep in this and just as guilty in exploiting these heros. “Never let a crisis go to waste” is a tactic that is not limited to only the Dems. There are no Good Guys anymore. Why the hell was Michelle Bachmann there yesterday? Just bad timing for her casual visit to the Memorial on a Tuesday that she happened to be in the DC I guess…, along with a dozen other Republicans. It just never freaking stops, maybe I should reregister as an Independent:

“Republicans used the World War II memorial event to blame Obama and the Democrats for the shutdown. About a dozen Republican members were on hand, according to McLaughlin — including Tea Party favorites like Minnesota’s Michelle Bachmann and Iowa’s Steve King — and he credited them with cutting the tape and moving the mobile fences that kept the public away from the shuttered memorial.”

Keep reading DB (you know why people call you DB, right?)

“Though they publicly shied away from politics, it was the Honor Flight organizers who reached out to the Republican lawmakers in most cases, not the other way around.”

DriveBy in reply to healthguyfsu. | October 2, 2013 at 10:34 am

      Ditto:

“But the organizers on the ground said some politicians were there for their own benefit.

“Bachmann was not doing jack. She was not in the memorial in any way and didn’t even touch a barricade,” said Nussbaum. “She was just standing in the front with a microphone in her mouth.”

healthguyfsu in reply to DriveBy. | October 2, 2013 at 11:31 am

That actually serves a purpose. She is telling people what is going on there. Is she a reporter? No. But reporters aren’t doing their jobs these days.

One thing’s for sure, you can’t claim Bachmann went over and moved the barricades to start the whole mess. And her presence doesn’t suggest that she staged it….merely that she showed up after hearing about it through the organizers.

Lastly, “Ditto” for comprehension: define the words “most” and “some” in the context of each pasted quote and then tell me how republicans are knee deep.

healthguyfsu in reply to healthguyfsu. | October 2, 2013 at 11:33 am

As to your “maybe I should register as an independent”. You should.

You are a neo-con pestilence. I’m not even a Republican any more because of idiots like you. I refused to be affiliated with any party that would be affiliated with your ilk.

DB is a moronic troll of the first order – an absolute, stone-cold, certified jackass. I urge you to quit feeding the beast.

Another Voice | October 2, 2013 at 10:25 am

Obama’s presidency is about his narcissistic need to be center of his domain. He loves the drama which he creates in order to perpetuate the divisiveness; in part of what we’re seeing now. If he were to have been hired by contract in any other business, corporation at this level, the board of directors would have canned his ass.

Obama’s mental health is certifiably a condition which should be treated with impeachment.

What is needed here is that group of bikers who rode through DC a couple weeks ago.

They fought the fascists, so why should some half baked Marxists be much of a challenge?

Too bad the White House tours were already cancelled!

Give Obama credit: he finally found a red line he can defend.

Is any of the MSM covering this and has anyone seen any reports from journalists investigating how far in advance this was planned by the administration or how much extra it costs to barricade these memorials and monuments rather than leave them unattended? Is anyone of the big national media showing this?

Dem’s Shutdown Motto: “Obamaway or the Highway”

Henry Hawkins | October 2, 2013 at 10:42 am

Obama’s second term has been even more marked by a blindness to bad imagery, with veterans in wheelchairs shut out of their own memorial being a classic example. Again, this sort of thing, avoiding bad messaging/imagery, is Politics 101 even the youngest, least experienced staffer would know. I think Obama no longer listens to advisers and staffers.

Henry I saw this newspaper cover being held up on two of the MSM morning news programs today:

    http://assets.nydailynews.com/polopoly_fs/1.1473519.1380688512!/img/httpImage/image.jpg_gen/derivatives/landscape_635/10-01-front.jpg

O has nothing to worry about regarding “image” in this case, the MSM has his back with at least half of the country.

Henry Hawkins in reply to DriveBy. | October 2, 2013 at 1:03 pm

Yeah, which is why Obama just erased another red line, the one where he said he would not negotiate the shutdown, by setting a meeting with congressional leaders. The media blowback over the vet tours caused it.

Your premise is moronic, but then, it would have to be.

DriveBy in reply to Henry Hawkins. | October 2, 2013 at 1:24 pm

Henry: “Your premise is moronic, but then, it would have to…”

I had no premise in sharing with you how the MSM is covering O’s butt, Henry. What’s with the hate? I was just sharing information.

And Henry, The One does not mind this shutdown for a few days on the Debt Ceiling, but there is another huge issue coming up on Oct. 17th… Hence, they put together a meeting. But a meeting is just that, there is certainly no indication that is means a definite resolution.

Henry Hawkins in reply to DriveBy. | October 2, 2013 at 2:36 pm

Do you even read posts or just attack for the sake of it?

What is your function? I feel like a calculus professor being lectured by a 3 year old.

JackRussellTerrierist in reply to Henry Hawkins. | October 2, 2013 at 11:27 am

I agree, Henry. I think he’s just biding the rest of his term to use for venting his hatred of this country and her people, responding feebly to crises only when forced to respond at all, exposing his malicious destruction of this country, milking us to live a lavish lifestyle pursuing golf and other liesurely activities he and Manchelle enjoy.

There should be no question left in any sentient person’s mind that obastard loathes America, Americans, our traditions, and all we stand for, believe, produce and pursue.

Obastard is a narcissistic, petty little dictator. I hope the “poor” people and the limousine libtards who elected him eventually bear the biggest brunt of his malice.

Methinks his ::::cough cough:::: advisers never had Politics 101. I mean considering they’re people such as Kal Penn and such…

theduchessofkitty | October 2, 2013 at 10:47 am

The moment the Park Police starts arresting WWII vets (or any other war vet) by the National Mall, the optics will be… well, quite bad.

Midwest Rhino | October 2, 2013 at 10:56 am

Q: How many Democrats and government union employees does it take to screw up a monument?

A: Five times more to maintain a barrier, than to leave it open.

The “Firemen First” strategy. Obama was politically spawned in Chicago, and understands the protection racket well. Somewhere Lois Lerner is smiling.

Anybody notice that the Cowardly Clown Administration didn’t close the Vietnam Memorial? I wonder why.

JackRussellTerrierist in reply to platypus. | October 2, 2013 at 11:33 am

Uh, gee, lemme think…….because they’re not octegenarians in wheelchairs?

I’d love to see some Vietnam, Gulf War and Iraq/Afghanistan vets open up a vente-sized can of whoop-ass on barry’s little park shut-her-downers. Well, actually, my fantasy goes a bit further than just that. 🙂

      @JackRussellTerrierist
“I’d love to see some Vietnam, Gulf War and Iraq/Afghanistan vets open up a vente-sized can of whoop-ass on barry’s little park shut-her-downers. Well, actually, my fantasy goes a bit further than just that.”

Just as long as you keep your violent fantasy’s about hurting/killing people to yourself, down there in your basement, everything will be fine.

Do let us know before you actually do suit up and head out to hurt people, OK.

Apparently, the Government isn’t so ‘shut down’ in that it can still afford to put up barricades and mounted patrols.

What did THAT cost?

The witless house is where all those closed signs need to be placed. it really hasn’t been open for at least 5 years.

Is it possible that those diabolical Republicans suckered Obama into doing this? It certainly makes the him look bad.

Nah, Republicans have never done anything so smart. Most likely it is just Obama’s arrogance.

JackRussellTerrierist in reply to JayDick. | October 2, 2013 at 11:48 am

obastard’s intellectual prowess is rather primal. As a typical black coward, he uses only a visual view to ferret out an apparent weak and vulnerable target. Having no pathos incorporated into intellect to fall back on, he’s unable to see that choosing the most vulnerable of targets reveals his callousness, spitefulness toward Amercians and his position to bully as many of us as possible.

obastard is, once again, giving America the finger. But this time it backfired. That middle digit ir pointed right at him now.

      @ JackRussellTerrierist
      “As a typical black coward…”

Finally. Geez, it took you at least three posts today before you finally told us once again about your hatred for Black people. It usually doesn’t take you that long; I was wondering if you were feeling well… 😉

The greatest generation takes on the greatest president [well, at least according to the low-info crowd].

Midwest Rhino | October 2, 2013 at 11:20 am

“Barrycades” is good, but I think “Barrackades” may be better, since the LIV may not know who Barry Soetoro is.

breaking … they say they will let the vets into the mall.

JackRussellTerrierist in reply to Midwest Rhino. | October 2, 2013 at 11:53 am

“Let”? They will “let” the vets into the memorial? No, the vets “took” the memorial…..and left barry’s boys, mouths agape, wondering whether to wind their watches or scratch their butts.

James_teh_2nd | October 2, 2013 at 11:24 am

Once again, the Greatest Generation leads the way and establishes a beach head. Thank you Grandpa. Someone else will have to move through. The GG’s ranks are getting a little thin. Don’t count on the baby boomers to follow through though. A spoiled, ungrateful lot that bunch. It will have to be the grand and great-grandchildren that step up.

For the lawyers, where does this petulant three-year-old in chief get the power to do this sort of thing? Shouldn’t this be in congress’ power?

don't tread 2012 | October 2, 2013 at 11:39 am

This all is a set-up, lead-up to the shit storm coming down the pike. This absurdity cannot continue. We are being pushed into a fight.

theduchessofkitty | October 2, 2013 at 11:42 am

They defeated Hitler, Mussolini and General Tojo.

They have every right in the world to tell Emperor Barack I where he can shove it!

Midwest Rhino | October 2, 2013 at 11:50 am

The biggest phony Barrackade, is the phony claim that
Not raising the debt ceiling = DEFAULT on our huge debt.

There is plenty of incoming revenue to fund our current debt. It is DEFICIT SPENDING that keeps pushing up the debt ceiling.
Reducing spending INCREASES from 11% to 10% is what congress calls a cut. A slightly slower INCREASE from outrageously high levels, is not a cut.

But that phony DEFAULT line is Obama’s fake BARRACKADE, which he hides behind. His media backs him up … bunch of liars.

Going a bit out of their way there ! Reckon they’ve gone too far. Can’t wait to see it completely blow up in their faces. Worst move they could have possibly made.

It will make a great sight for the media to ignore. Thousands of wheel chair bound 90 year old World War II Veterans arrested by the Obama Administration for criminal trespass.

I will be a sight not seen since King George. You ARE the law now. Go for it Barack!!!

JimMtnViewCaUSA | October 2, 2013 at 12:23 pm

“More guards at WWII memorial than Benghazi.”

That one is a keeper.

Where the hell is Tom Hanks? Hiding in the weeds?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QI2aWk_OASQ

Clearly the Park Service needs to call out it’s SWAT team to stop these troublemakers.

Henry Hawkins | October 2, 2013 at 1:14 pm

Wish my old man were alive (USMC, WWII, Pacific). He’d be in DC right now if he had to crawl there.

Our borders aren’t as well guarded as our monuments…. against octogenarians who EARNED the right to be there. What has the administration earned other than eternal contempt.

Congress (nor the President) shall make no law prohibiting the right of the people peaceably to assemble…. Even during a govt. shut-down.

News flash: “…at 3:00 PM, the RNC will announce it will privately pay to keep the WWII Memorial open for 30 days.”

Great coverage, Professor!

I see LI mentioned more and more frequently during my daily blog slog.
