Media Matters identifies greatest threat to education — John Stossel

You know the greatest threat to American education as Media Matters wants it?

John Stossel. Libertarian.

Possibly the greatest threat to the children ever, The Right-Wing Money Putting John Stossel In School Classrooms:

Two foundations that have been described as “the dark money ATM of the right” have spent more than $1 million combined funding a non-profit organization whose primary function is distributing libertarian education materials featuring Fox Business host John Stossel.

Sounds ominous, right? The foundations described as the “dark money ATM of the right” are funding this.  Who uses that description? Well, the embedded link is to Mother Jones Magazine!  That’s proof enough, a far left magazine uses an ominous description which then is used by Media Matters as proof of the description.

Media Matters continues:

The program now offers hundreds of free clips from Stossel’s shows and specials that claim to seriously address a range of academic subjects, including Art (“Why does Hollywood Hate Capitalism?”), Biology (“Debunking Food Myths”), and History (“The Real Story of Thanksgiving,” which explains “how the Pilgrims were hurt by sharing”).

“Stossel in the Classroom” also produces libertarian economics courses. The small team of economists that writes materials such as “Making Economics Come Alive with John Stossel” has multiple close ties to the Stavros Center for the Advancement of Free Enterprise and Economic Education at Florida State University.

I’m thrilled that Stossel is bringing his libertarian views to the schools.  I wish it had more of an effect.

It’s a drop in the union-statist-Democratic school curriculum bucket, but it’s something.  Here’s an edited video created by Media Matters (added — the video is of Stossel’s Fox Business show, it’s unclear from the MMFA post if this is the material shown in classrooms).  I say, more please.

The video was produced by Oliver Willis, a Media Matters employee whose ranting on his own blog gave rise to the very first Saturday Night Card Game.

Someone ought to investigate how many “independent” left wing bloggers Media Matters and similar groups have on the payroll. It’s how Media Matters helps fund the left-blogosphere.

“Ideas?!?!” “You can’t HANDLE ideas!!!”

Which really is the case with the Collective. Stossel supports things that I don’t (legalizing drug beyond marijuana, legalizing prostitution, etc.), but Conservatives are happy to meet people in the arena of ideas. And Stossel is both someone who dares to bring his ideas into the arena, and who will hear others out.

Collectivists simply try to crush them.

I love Churchill. Here is a quote I found yesterday.

Some people regard private enterprise as a predatory tiger to be shot. Others look on it as a cow they can milk. Not enough people see it as a healthy horse, pulling a sturdy wagon.

I never saw the first version of Stossel’s Stupid in America, when at ABC. But the Fox/FBN version is a must see to anyone who has concerns about the devolution of education in this country, in my opinion. I can only find the original edition on Youtube, but surely the FBN version is out there somewhere.

Just add a touch of Freakonomics and kids might learn something useful.

Notice the libs don’t get upset when Al Gore and Michael Moore are used as factual source material in the classroom. Last month the following clip was shown in my son’s government class (it’s included in Bowling for Columbine) as being factual:

Yes – there is a story there and yes I went Mama Bear on our Superintendent’s Office. For anyone following the CSCOPE controversy in Texas – this is part of the resources for a CSCOPE government class.

The midnight black ATM money of the American Left is supplied by the useful idiots who believe in the same eternal “Progress” as Josef Stalin.

And, the spiritual baseness of the Left, with it’s moral currency tied to relativism, will destroy this country by calling evil good and good evil.

Go Stossel.

Of course you can’t question the liberal orthodoxy in academia! I know: I am in the middle of it (head down, of course!).

What are children learning from Stossel in the classroom? How to think, how to question, how to examine the world for themselves. How to be “hammers” instead of “nails”.

Doesn’t sound too bad to me. I have all the Stossel in the Classroom DVDs, by the way.

When the greatest threat to education is John Stossel … you’ve reached Nirvana.

One threat to education is homeschooling … of MMFA bloggers by George Soros.

Well the sissy part is correct. Girly-tard is if nothing else an ignorant sissy.

“Liberals” would see ideas, logic, and self-responsibility as the worst thing for kids. They’re bviously more dangerous than a 1/2 divorce rate and abortion… Not to mention the socio-economic problems they want to solve with tax $..

Pathetic RP and M Friedman are known for, “Governments hate competition.”

I propose, “Liberals” hate competition.

While I stand at arm’s length to what a lot of libertarians utter, Stossel is 99.9% on target regarding education and it comes as no surprise that he is under attack by the left, unions and progressives.

But I’m afraid that he along with a lot of us are involved in an uphill battle to restore things like common sense and personal responsibility.

No one listens to Stossel or me for that matter…

In my state, they use CNN Student News in middle schools.
