The bill passed 257-167. Boehner and Ryan voted for it. Cantor and McCarthy against.

Just posted: ‘Tension-Tilled New Year’s Day in the House of Representatives’. This has been a New Year’s Day unlike any other, and even members of Congress are saying this is unprecedented. The freakin’ Obama White House? These people are depraved.
Boehner and Cantor Each voted on principal.
Boehner’s principal was fear of blame and an instinct to remain Speaker now and two years from now
Cantor voted based on conservative principals and a plan to be Speaker soon.
Whole vote disgusts me. No spending cuts? Really. My God this politicians are ALL crazy MFs.

Whatever you may think of Republican principles, consider the Democrats and THEIR principles.
For the last decade the Democrats and the media (but I repeat myself) have proclaimed the Bush tax cuts to be the very thing that has brought our country to fiscal and economic ruin.
Now they’ve voted to say that 99% of the Bush tax cuts are okay, all things considered.
A competent Republican party (hah) would make hay with that for the next two years.
Democrats are an unprincipled lot. If they were governed by principles, they would not lie. Republicans are too stooooopid to take advantage of the mess that spending has caused. The more money the government prints the less my money is worth. The more money that the government borrows, the more it has to pay in interest charges and the less it has to spend on important things like defense.
Republican and/or conservatives values/principles should not be influenced by Democratic values/principles or the absence thereof

Moreover, a competent Republican Party would be linking upper-class tax cuts to job creation.
For example, favorable tax treatment for people investing in risky industries like, yes, solar energy. With provisions for domestic job creation.
If we (*sigh*) must push the economy into stuff like this, far better to have the private sector in the loop than to throw money at Obama’s cronies. At first blush, this seems an easier sell to the voters than the recent hard line on taxes has been.
2. Will Cantor challenge Boehner for Speaker? Some time ago, an LI commenter claimed that Cantor is, ah, severely conservative out of personal ambition rather than principle. Don’t know if there’s anything to that.
If nothing else my take on Paul Ryan has been correct.

I read a lot of sites & the one that most accurately foretold all this was C4P. At times it isadifficult site to visit because they have had big splits , acrimony & pessimism .
It has been written on their wall since Oct 5 2011 when all hope left.

I think she was pretty clear: people often vote on inertia — the Democrats have it. ( — But ANYBODY would have it compared to the GOP, given the idiots running it.)

I wrote my congressman, Republican Mike Rogers, who voted for this fantastic deal, to tell him just that, that I was disgusted by his vote.
I also, possibly, might have told him to grow a pair. That would be rude, however, so maybe not.
I knew Paul Ryan was establishment when I supported him for VP but I am disappointed most in him. And for him to say that he was happy to vote for this? Egads.
Again — why is there not GOP voter revolt against Boehener remaining in the Speaker position?

Republicans, God bless ‘em, today affirmed the wisdom of my decision to leave their clueless, gutless party after 42 years. Not that it will matter in the long run. I foresee one-party rule for the balance of my lifetime, during which I’ll witness the final debasement of the wonderful experiment that was our Democratic Republic. Ben Franklin was a realist and George Orwell was a very bright dude. The future belongs to culture of Kwame & Kim.

Here’s hoping a large number of the readers of this blog will join us. Switching registration and then VOTING against the Republican Party is the only way I see to get their attention. They take it for granted that we will be grumbling and disgruntled up until election day when we, the sheep, will dutifully line up and vote for the Republican candidate as the only alternative. Well, we see what that has gotten us.
How has holding my nose, closing my eyes and pulling the lever for McCain or Romney or local Republicans helped the state of the union? No more for me.

Dear Diary, I woke up this morning feeling kind of dirty. I just hope Speaker Boehner calls this morning to tell me he still respects me….he promised he would call me…Hope he’s not like Mitch was and never calls again….Dear Diary, why do they all treat me this way?
I can’t believe anyone would try ans spin this as not raising taxes because the cuts had expired. Apparently the supposed king of “no taxes” is as big a POS as the rest of them.
I’d like the GOP better if they just admitted that they were adraid everyone would call them mean and say they hated poor people. The party really needs to rethink what its principles are.
Eric the Untrustworthy Cantor is positioning himself to replace Boehner the Weeper. That’s all Cantor’s vote was about. Not about principle or philosophy but simply about power for Cantor. In the same way in 2010 he positioned himself as a Young Turk. What a joke that was!
I wish Allen West were in the House still. That’s the only guy fighting fit for Speaker. The rest? Pish tosh!
Quick Question: Are the income tax rates now ‘permanent’, ie. no sunset date? Or will they expire again in a few years?
Sorry to answer a question with more questions; but what is the state of the rule of law in our country? How permanent and dependable is any law, the courts, or the mechanisms for enforcing them? The Democrats are openly calling for abandoning the Constitution [to the dead silence of the Institutional Republicans]. Obama has been calling for the Debt Ceiling to be turned over to him unilaterally. And Obama has already demanded further tax increases for the sequester cliff in two months and the Debt Ceiling negotiations after that.
Throw in another question. After reviewing the Institutional Republicans in Congress’ actions in this century, and especially noting what they are saying was a “victory” last night; what reason is there to believe that they will not give him any tax increases he wants? And that does not even consider the not small possibility of taxing by Executive Orders or administrative regulations.
Add in the twist that the Supreme Court [read Chief Justice Roberts] was gotten to and ruled that the power to tax over-rides the Bill of Rights.
We are in a far different world than this country has ever been in before. One that a lot of the countries in the Old World and Latin America are familiar with.
If you have assets or a business, depending on a stable rule of law and taxes may not be the wisest thing to do.
