What will I do?

What will I do?

Some thoughts.

Should Romney lose, there will be trolling beyond belief, including liberals trying to get Republicans to fight with each other in order to tear the party apart. There are fights which will need to be had, but not tomorrow.  Operation Demoralize never stops. Don’t succumb.

It will be tempting to do the same to Democrats if we win. There are plenty of people on Twitter and elsewhere who deserve it. I’m going (to try really hard) to resist the urge.  There is a 47% chance I will succeed in resisting temptation, but I will try.

Whatever the result, we need to stay focused. I recommend this post by Tucker Carlson and Neit Patel at The Daily Caller, Wave Goodbye to the Obama media:

By tomorrow night we’ll likely know the name of the next president. But we already know the loser in this election cycle: political reporters. They’ve disgraced themselves. Conservatives have long complained about liberal bias in the media, and with some justification. But it has finally reached the tipping point. Not in our lifetimes have so many in the press dropped the pretense of objectivity in order to help a political candidate. The media are rooting for Barack Obama. They’re not hiding it….

By the next presidential cycle most of these people will be gone. They’ll have moved on to academia or think tanks or Democratic senate campaigns, or wherever aging hacks go when their union contracts finally, inevitably get voided. They’ll be replaced by a vibrant digital marketplace filled with hungry young reporters who care more about breaking stories than maintaining access to some politician or regulator.

All of this was probably inevitable, but it came faster than expected. Through their dishonesty the legacy media hastened their own end. Their moral authority has evaporated. So has their business model. Wave them goodbye on the way out.

I don’t have that level of confidence. These people may be gone, but they simply will be replaced.

I wondered what I would do with Legal Insurrection depending on the result of the election.

If Obama wins, well the answer is easy. But what if Obama loses? The same thing as if he wins, just somewhat different issues and players.

We let our guard down for a generation, and look at the mess we’re in. This is a never-ending battle.

I think we should act graciously. But we are going to win. And act graciously. Not out of foolish pandering to the left. It is not about them, but about us.

    clintack in reply to EBL. | November 6, 2012 at 5:40 pm

    Definitely. And it’s hard to imagine President-elect Romney being anything but gracious in victory.

    More importantly, time and effort spent gloating is time and effort that can’t be put into writing executive orders and legislation, making cabinet appointments, and cutting red tape for the Keystone Pipeline, gas and oil exploration, and nuclear power plants.

I am not considering alternatives. But I would add, we should always act graciously.

Exactly Professor
No matter who wins we NEED LI
In fact in some ways your site will be more important to us than ever

“We let our guard down for a generation, and look at the mess we’re in. This is a never-ending battle.”

NOBODY says these things better than the GREATEST PRESIDENT OF MODERN AMERICA:

“Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction; it’s not something we pass along in our bloodstream. It must be fought-for, protected, and passed-along for them to do the same” — Ronald Reagan

    Remember, this election is but one battle in the war.

    If we “lose” tonight, then we must fight in the trenches of the House and the Senate.

    If we “win” tonight, we must still fight the many battles (in the House, the Senate, and the West Wing) to put this country into better shape.

    Socialism consistently fails because it is a fatally flawed system. Even the most “competent” administration of socialism doesn’t prevent its eventual collapse, but only slows its progressive decline.

    Too often, once elected, the Republicans merely try to be more competent administrators of the ever increasing, and increasingly socialist, government. Rather, they should be, like Buckley (and to some degree Breitbart), standing athwart history, yelling “stop!”

    In summary, once again, even if we “win” tonight, we must still fight many, many battles to put this country into better shape.

    We will still need LI to help in those many battles.

Forgive me, Prof., but I had a rather more positive suggestion to make…

How about a exploration of how things will be different tomorrow when Mr. Romney, Mia Love, Ted Cruz, etc. are apparent winners?

Conservatives have a job of work to do. How should we best go about it?

    JimMtnViewCaUSA in reply to Ragspierre. | November 6, 2012 at 5:14 pm

    Exactly right. We will still have quantities of lefties to track and RINOs to harass 🙂
    Just electing a decent person to be President, just electing Repubs to Congress won’t get ‘er done. Unfortunately.

I agree with Raspierre – discussion of long-term priorities and strategy is important – good strategies don’t just “show up” on your doorstep. And you need your priorities straight, so they’re not in conflict (or at least, you’re aware of where they are).

theduchessofkitty | November 6, 2012 at 4:51 pm

I prayed. That’s all I can do right now.

The die is cast – as of 11 p.m. CST.

casualobserver | November 6, 2012 at 4:55 pm

I will find it hard to believe Obama will win in an obvious way by tonight. Even progressive pundits claim it is skin tight.

Regardless, this blog will always be a welcome place independent of who is in the WH. The Prof should continue to target the seeking of the truth about progressives as they won’t give up after one or two elections. Longevity is key for credibility in the blogosphere, and I can only hoe LI continues.

America is a precious gift we can pass on to our children and grandchildren. We will fight on for their sake and for Miss Liberty’s sake. The teeming masses will need a refuge from the tyrants of the world – here and abroad.

“This is a never-ending battle.”

You got that right, Chief!

If we win, we take just one night off to enjoy it … watching via webcam the Professor in his orange and black LI footed jammies, drink in one hand, other hand lighting fireworks in his backyard … before redoubling our efforts.

If we lose, we retriple our efforts … on the way to requadrupling them.

LukeHandCool (who can’t wait for the first annual Summertime LI Convention in Las Vegas)

As far as the bobo media is concerned, it is the digital age, and I’ve already said mostly bye to them, and frequent digit(al) signs.

I do so appreciate this blog. Thank you.

If Romney loses, you close the comment section for a day or two, let things cool off before regrouping. Take your ball and go home. There’s no honor in indulging trolls, take it from a former troll who grew up.

    I don’t know. I think should the unlikely event of a Romney loss come to pass, that we should take that trolling, use it to fuel anger at the establishment that gave us Romney as a candidate when we had so many more Conservative candidates available to us, and use it to finally do what we should have done in 2010, which is divorce the RINOs from the party (or form a new, truly Conservative party) from the base of the TEA Partiers.

      clintack in reply to Chuck Skinner. | November 6, 2012 at 5:57 pm

      I honestly don’t see how any of the other primary candidates could have won this thing — especially with the power of the MSM against them. Romney’s played this campaign absolutely brilliantly. Can you really imagine any of the other candidates making the case that he was the perfect man to turn around the economy?

      When Romney wins, I know it will be tempting to believe that *anyone* could have beaten Obama, and to wish we’d nominated someone *we* would like better than Romney. Resist the temptation. This could easily have gone very differently.

      chilipalmer in reply to Chuck Skinner. | November 7, 2012 at 12:51 am

      I agree. The same Bush crowd that destroyed the GOP and gave us Obama worked full time to undermine Romney including the hideous Jeb Bush running a shadow campaign at the Repub. convention. The media likes Jeb Bush because he doesn’t like the Tea Party. The Daily Caller is late to the party. Today’s media also decided the 2008 election and they’ll decide 2016. David Gregory is actually more important than Obama. Obama can’t run again but Gregory will still be around to pick the next president. Why would Gregory quit his job?

Toss one out here. How about some sort of collaborative effort. I have been aware that Hillsdale College has an on-going project dealing with the U. S. Constitution. Okay, they could be the educational arm, so to speak. LI could be the application arm. Maybe, this could be a basis for considering our founding principles, were are we today in relation them, and what sort of actions are suggested. Participants would “plug-in” based upon their interests, background, skills, etc.

To hell with that noise. At this very moment I’m posting on a laptop while sitting on top of a water tower in downtown San Francisco. The minute Romney’s victory is announced, and having drank 3-5 gallons of sweet tea, I’ll be pissing over the side all over downtown Loonville below.

legalizehazing | November 6, 2012 at 5:05 pm

I’ll be gracious to God, sanity, and the conservatives that fueled this victory.

I’ll definitely celebrate though…

But they, above, are right about taking this thing to the next level after we win

Judging from reports coming in from Pennsylvania and Florida, Romney is going to win.

Crossing my fingers for Scott Brown – the hardest working politician in MA- to pull this off.

Professor, what would be wrong with having that fight tomorrow should Romney lose?

If Romney were to lose, I’m all for having that fight as soon as possible and getting everybody organized into something that actually reflects the people rather than the Establishment which early on basically told us “You’ll take Mitt Romney and you’ll like it.” I’d prefer to do it while there is still anger in the blood, so that some of the wishy-washy don’t get cold feet later.

Romney redeemed himself somewhat by choosing Paul Ryan, but if the reports are true that the initial VP pick was Chris Christie until Romney was told in no uncertain terms that the Conservatives would go into OPEN REVOLT against his nomination and guarantee him a loss in the election, that says something about the choices Romney will make as a leader.

Now, I don’t think Romney will lose, largely because the TEA Party support has overcome the Republican Establishment, but the next four to six months will be crucial for the TEA Partiers who made all this possible to mobilize and sweep the establishment leadership from their high positions.

    theduchessofkitty in reply to Chuck Skinner. | November 6, 2012 at 5:33 pm

    Methinks you want to start this fight… right now.

    This was on Ace, as to what to look for right now:

    “Looking at body language: Republicans on TV look upbeat. I just saw Bill Richardson (D) [former Governor of NM] on Cavuto. He looked like he was going through the motions.”

    My take: wait for the results, then brawl all you want.

      Mylady Duchess,

      I was ready to start this fight when those nitwits in Congress decided not to throw Boehner out the door when he refused to stand up and tell the President “HELL NO we’re not going to raise the debt ceiling and give you cover for spending us into Bankruptcy.”

      They should have said we’ll raise the debt ceiling when you give us ACTUAL CUTS (not just “reductions in growth”) in spending and you tell the Dimwits in the Senate that if they don’t vote for it you will personally campaign against them.

      P.S.- No, I have no respect at all for Boehner. I see him as a weak-kneed leader at best, who is unwilling or unable to actually stick to his guns, and I fully expect him to sell out the new TEA Party members to Obama at the first opportunity after he is re-named Speaker.

If we find we have not won the day, then we will discover what is we needed to do and didn’t to win the next one.

Stay on the high road Professor, and win lose or draw, enjoy twitter troll combat vicariously via your twitter friends who take the liberal twitter trolls apart mano y mano and feed them to the fishes.

We each have a role to play in this battle from general to anti-insurgent twitter freedom fighters who are well versed in the art of warfare with liberal troll lifeforms. 😉

As far as our classically trained professional and unbiased journalists are concerned… if Romney wins, I am sure they will rediscover their questioning, investigative, question everything the President says, selves again.

Three areas of concern strike me.

We MUST figure out how to insure the integrity of the voter rolls- national list computerized to pick up double registrations, national photo i.d., purging Lyndon Johnson’s dead people??

We must fight the Democrats’ drip, drip, drip campaign to amend the Constitution to get rid of the electoral college. (And, frankly, I’d love to repeal the 17th Amendment and get back to the STATES selecting Senators- you’d cost a lot of lobbyists their jobs!)

We need to educate ourselves about local, state and federal judges- and express our opinions.

Cheerful in Marin | November 6, 2012 at 5:36 pm

Even with a Romney victory, I worry for the state of our government, especially the liberals (and islamists) imbedded throughout the federal departments, like DOJ, State and Defense. I hope for a steel-spined Romney who will make a serious effort to clear out the p.c. cancer that plagues our bureaucracies. How do we keep an eye on this? Help Mr. Professor!!!!

theduchessofkitty | November 6, 2012 at 5:38 pm

One more thing.

I’m not Catholic or Orthodox, not by a long shot, but I did something very unusual for this Baptist me in my little corner of Texas.

I took a small icon I had bought at a Greek Festival in Houston some time ago and took a good look at it. It was of St. Michael the Archangel. I went outside and faced the small icon before the sun, invoking before God the aid of Michael the Archangel. (Don’t know the prayer, really, but I had to make something up.) At this point in time, this goes to the spiritual realm – one that neither skewed pollsters, the Palace Guard Media, Hollywood, Academia nor the Leftist Elites can control at all.

We will see the results tonight.

Romney and Ryan will win but this is just the second step up a long ladder – the first being the the 2010 midterm. Please continue the work you do. Restoration of our country will be an ongoing herculean task.

If Obama is re-elected, I will be sad. Profoundly so.

Anyone that goes into this election not knowing the consequences, and not dealing with said consequences logically, emotionally, and spiritually before today is whistling past the graveyard.

I know this is our last chance to stop the march of marxism peacefully.

I believe in the American…the person; not the collective.

Jack The Ripper | November 6, 2012 at 6:32 pm

The battle will never end, regardless of who is elected tonight, and in 2014, 2016, 2018, ad infinitum:

As Milton Friedman explained: There is always a tension between those two great pillars of civilization – equality and liberty/freedom; and if you shoot for equality you will end up with neither.

The Fabric of Our Republic has been corrupted by:

125 years of public education and teachers unions and the dumbing down, sense of entitlement, ignorance of history and its successes and failures, contempt for federalism, separation of powers and the rule of low, and soft bigotry low expectations – all wrought by an education system designed for farm laborers and industrial/assembly line workers under Taylorite Management;

100+ years of William Jennings Bryan, Woodrow Wilson (begat by Teddy Roosevelt), FDR, LBJ, Carter, Clinton and Obama. [I’ll give Truman and Kennedy a pass, for now];

Even Reagan could hardly slow the growth of the federal government, and neither Bush administration (even when they had Congress) was able to resist the status quo dynamic on Capitol Hill, in the bureaucracy, and among the voting public;

A half century of biased media;

A culture of debt and immediate gratification;

A failure to appreciate American Exceptionalism, history, and how much the world needs us both because of our strengths, despite our weaknesses, and the shortcomings throughout the world – look at patents, prizes, economic might, military strength, peace keeping, mutually assured destruction, shipping lanes, intelligence, and disaster relief (see Mark Steyn, America Alone);

The destruction of the black American family (Patrick Moynihan);

Defining deviancy down (Patrick Moynihan);

Looming demographics and unsustainable entitlements (see Peter G. Peterson, Lawrence J. Kotlikoff and Burns);

A lack of individual responsibility (see, e.g., Phillip K. Howard, The Death of Common Sense);

A tax code that is inefficient, complicated, takes up too much of our economy just in compliance, not to mention distorting economic behavior and stifling innovation;

And never-ending human nature towards: protectionism, a belief that life/wealth is a zero sum game, a belief that life is supposed to be fair, jealousy, resentment, personal failures and unwillingness to accept blame, and a caustically corrupting grievance and rights-based society and political intercourse.

The list goes on and on.

If we “conservatives” win tonight, the battle is not only NOT over, it is just beginning, as Newt Gingrich said on election night 1994 when a few hundred of us faithful were with him late at night at the Galleria in Smyrna, and I paraphrase: its easier to be in the minority and criticize and oppose and resist than it is to take the responsibility of governing.

America got fat in the wake of World War II, when we enjoyed economic hegemony because Europe, Japan, and China had destroyed so many of their people and so much of their economic base. Generations of politicians put in place wonderful things like our interstate system, but also kicked the can down the road on fiscal and entitlement matters. What if, for example, the 1983 Greenspan Commission had said that the retirement age will go up one week every calendar month (or roughly one year in every 4.33 years)?

America has painted itself into a fiscal and demographic corner, at least for those of us under the age of 55. If we “conservatives” win, the heavy lifting will still be there, both at home and abroad. Win or lose tonight, the overall landscape remains very challenging, and being gracious and neither discouraged nor full of hubris is a good place to start.

P.S. – Barone apparently has a new article about there being two political Americas who no longer talk to each other. He’s right. I have put up some strident stuff on this website, all of it with a sense of humor that I hope came through, even if some of it crossed into snarky. But, in the past month or so, various headlines on Drudge pulled me to The Nation and to Huffington Post. Please do your mood a favor and stay away from those sites for at least a week or two. The comments there rarely have even a tinge of humor and are as often or not filled with actual malice and vitriol. We view liberals as misguided humans. They view conservatives as knuckle dragging primates or racists or flag-waving, war-mongering, NASCAR-loving rednecks who are too intimate with family members, or when these liberals are in a charitable mood, they might even view conservatives as modern humans with good hygiene and education but who are heartlessly rich.

If this was a “normal” election, I’d say go ahead and gloat. But from years of watching Glenn Beck (the last year via ROKU) I know that if Romney wins, we should all just fall on our knees, weak with gratitude and begging for forgiveness. Not since Sodom and Gomorrah has their been such a case for destroying a population (which Obama will surely do if reelected). No place for gloating given the stakes involved.

As for the future, at 67 I don’t know how much more I can go on the way I’ve been since the 2004 election (I started blogging in 2006). I stay up way too late every night and put off doing much needed business and personal things to where they’ve become unmanageable (and my health has suffered).

God help us survive either way, though. At least there are a hell of a lot more people who are now AWAKE and who now know what we actually have to lose. G-d Bless America!

“If Obama wins, well the answer is easy. But what if Obama loses? The same thing as if he wins, just somewhat different issues and players.”

We won’t get fooled again. The Republicans have been destructive to the Constitution, also. We need to hold ALL their feet to the fire!

Why so glum?

I was a Newt voter, but have come to love Romney. I am happier about this presidential vote than any other I have cast. I am proud of my party to have nominated him and stuck with him when things weren’t looking so promising (before the first debate). I can’t do anything about how the other half thinks and votes, but I couldn’t be prouder of my team.

I am happy, too, that I have found new media resources like this one, which have kept me informed and entertained.

    Jack The Ripper in reply to ThOR. | November 6, 2012 at 7:53 pm

    I cannot speak for everyone, but I think most of us are not glum, just worried.

    This is an incumbent who by many objective, historical standards would have a tough time getting reelected (and more likely than the average Democrat incumbent, even, faced a challenge in the primaries).

    But, the Electoral College serves a valuable purpose. The polls are not air-tight for either party because of the volatility of the last-three elections 2010, 2008, 2006.

    And, so its all about turnout, ground game, and “irregularities.”
