This is what fear of the State looks like

This is what fear of the State looks like

When companies self-censor to wait until the days after the election to announce major layoffs.

Via commenter conservativegram in the Tip Line:

As Drudge would say-”Own it!”

“Nextel to cut 20% of jobs at Virginia headquarters”

In Past 48 hrs, following companies announded layoffs:
Caterpillar, CVPH Medical Center, Lightyear Haqwker Beechcraft, Westinghouse, Research in Motion, US Cellular, Commerzbank, Iberia, ING, Ericsson, Bristol-Myers, Corning, Boston Scientific, Abbott Labs and St. Jude.

Pepsi looking to layoff 4,000 workers

Energizer Holdings Inc. will reduce its global workforce by more than 10 percent — or about 1,500 employees — as the company closes three manufacturing plants and streamlines other operations.”

“As Twitchy reported in September, the Obama administration made moves to encourage defense contractors to delay layoff announcements until after the election, offering to reimburse contractors for any legal costs incurred in not informing their affected employees. Lockheed Martin seemingly took the offer, and today, Boeing announced it would be cutting 30 percent of management positions.”

And, of course—–”Unexpectedly: Stocks Suffer Heavy Losses Second Straight Day After Election;Analysts Baffled”

The Blaze has a list of post-election announcements for companies large and small.  This is just PART of the list, it is much longer:

Is there any doubt that many of these announcements, at least for the larger companies, were delayed out of fear of retribution from the Obama administration?

The same administration which has bullied defense contractors into not complying with the WARN Act prior to the election.  Message sent and received.

Self-censorship is the end result of fear of the State.

Excellent post. Just turned it into Drudge with caption “Here come the layoffs”
And another down day on Wall St is predicted as earnings are announced and investors prepare for dividend earnings being taxed as regular earnings. Obviously dividend stocks get discounted.

My company, Career Education Corp., announced yesterday that it would reduce the workforce by 7%. “Funny” (not) how all this happens after the elections. I turned to my lib. coworkers who were fretting over the announcement and told them “So it begins..”. They have no flaming clue of the destruction that they have wrought upon themselves. By the way,CEC is a Chicago-based company….hmmm.

Good morning to all – the Target store closure in Manassas, Va., was dictated by the opening of another Target Superstore relatively close to the one announced. As much as I would like to attribute this to a larger motive, perhaps some of these announcements are inevitably driven by market saturation. Just a thought…

Pasturized in reply to boatsailor. | November 9, 2012 at 8:52 am

True enough, but … Are or are not people going to lose their jobs because that location closes? Did or did not Target delay the announcement until after the election?

johneastborough in reply to Pasturized. | November 10, 2012 at 9:58 am

I think that would be unlikely, because Target actually supports Republicans (remember the liberal boycotts?).

They would have no reason to delay disclosure that would show Obama in a bad light.

I wonder if time spent thinking about job creation in the private sector will trump time spent on the golf course this term…

Nah.

Ok, I’ll admit to having to eat crow on this. I thought the layoff bomb was nonsense. I was wrong.

And more sad news–
http://www.washingtonpost.com/business/economy/after-obama-re-election-ceo-reads-prayer-to-staff-announces-layoffs/2012/11/09/e9bca204-2a63-11e2-bab2-eda299503684_story.html
After Obama reelection coal company CEO reads prayer to staff, announces layoffs
“For the chairman and chief executive of Murray Energy, an Ohio-based coal company, the reelection of President Obama was no cause for celebration. It was a time for prayer – and layoffs.
Robert E. Murray read a prayer to a group of company staff members on the day after the election, lamenting the direction of the country and asking: “Lord, please forgive me and anyone with me in Murray Energy Corp. for the decisions that we are now forced to make to preserve the very existence of any of the enterprises that you have helped us build.””

MaggotAtBroadAndWall in reply to conservativegram. | November 9, 2012 at 9:14 am

The first two paragraphs of the prayer are spot on:

    ‘Dear Lord:

The American people have made their choice. They have decided that America must change its course, away from the principals of our Founders. And, away from the idea of individual freedom and individual responsibility. Away from capitalism, economic responsibility, and personal acceptance.

We are a Country in favor of redistribution, national weakness and reduced standard of living and lower and lower levels of personal freedom.’

Tickle up poverty with more government control over the economy and how we live is gonna be awesome.

“Analysts baffled?” Even a dumb truck driver like me saw this coming…maybe I’m in the wrong career.

    9thDistrictNeighbor in reply to Wraith. | November 9, 2012 at 10:21 am

As a trucker, whether local or long distance, you come in contact with far more of the country than so-called analysts do.

I don’t buy that all of these layoffs were due to fears of retribution. I would bet that many of the businesses were holding out hope that the adults would prevail.

You forgot, unexpectedly.

Under fascist economics you still have competition of a sort.

It is a Hunger Games race to see who can curry favor with the power-elite.

And that is the very worst kind of competition for consumers.

I just hope the bosses doing all of this laying off take a few minutes to clear their heads first…and take a nice walk in the parking lot to read some interesting bumper stickers or even read interesting facts and figures on the opensecrets web site. Hopefully, at least initially, those who heaped this destruction on us will feel its effects.

It really isn’t too early for those “Don’t blame me, I voted for Romney” bumper stickers to start appearing….

Elections have consequences. Now if only the Øbama voters could be the sole recipients of these layoffs….THAT would be social justice of the first order!

“Now if only the Øbama voters could be the sole recipients of these layoffs….THAT would be social justice of the first order!”

    Yep.

Let me tell you something about my husband’s workplace. There are all these people working and minding their won business. And then there’s this woman who insists on keeping a picture shrine for The One on her desk, in full view of her bosses and other administrators. And somehow, she gets away with it. If The Duke were to put but a desk calendar with Rush Limbaugh’s face on it, he’d be on the street right away.

“Affirmative action” has become a conduit for bribery and extortion of the highest order, in the worst ways possible. And good, decent and honest people like The Duke pay the price.

Now, all of you attorneys here, I have a question: is it illegal to actually discriminate against someone based on their political beliefs? As far as I know, I haven’t heard anything like that… I also want to know if it is legal for workplaces to forbid political displays on their (supposedly apolitical) workplaces.

jimzinsocal in reply to theduchessofkitty. | November 9, 2012 at 10:19 am

Im not sure where the line is anymore between mini shrines at the workplace and creating a harmful work enviroment.
Telling a racist joke is considered creating a hateful work enviroment so for me a mini Obama shrine amounts to about the same thing.

theduchessofkitty in reply to jimzinsocal. | November 9, 2012 at 11:44 am

I think those mini-shrines for The One should be treated just as badly as those pinup calendars in past workplaces. Shouting His Glorious Name should be considered as hostile as groping a woman’s butt or fondling her.

        “Political Harassment.” Sounds about right.

SoCA Conservative Mom in reply to theduchessofkitty. | November 9, 2012 at 10:50 am

Political affiliation is not a protected class unless you’re a Liberal, then you are not only protected, you get special treatment. All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others. 😉

[…] why the Statist Governing style is to be feared, this info should give some food for thought, from Legal Insurrection As Drudge would say-”Own […]

Those who have anchored their futures to Hope and Change’s sandy soil will be washed out to sea when the storm comes…and it is coming.

Conservatives’ job going forward is to put a personal face on every job loss, every sorrow that could have been avoided by a different outcome of this election and directly tie it to the Democrats on a DAILY basis. We could have a daily count and highlight someone each day and what this means for their family.

And also, can we start calling out people for the greedy jerks they are for wanting something for nothing?

Sanddog in reply to ecwyatt. | November 9, 2012 at 12:16 pm

    It’s past time for that.

When you allow the left to control the dialogue you end up with people believing they are entitled to everything they desire, immediately. If you don’t want to work your butt off to provide free stuff for total strangers, you’re “greedy” and “selfish”.

I say good. I would love to see unemployment rate at 30%
society needs to learn.
it sucks but the only way people will learn is when they are literally starving.

…and this is only the beginning. We have been deceived and promised to at the same time. Sooner or later this will all have to shake out and it won’t be pretty.

Now please excuse me while I finish filling out the food stamps form…

This is 3 arguments in 1.

1. Anyone who did not see this coming is a moron. (I was going to be nicer but decided it was a waste of energy)

2. Government is too damn big and too controlling. Take the power away from them!

3. Obama is corrupt and needs to be impeached and removed from office. (I know the second part won’t ever happen but as more info comes out, especially about Benghazi, it seems quite possible).

You can add Southern California Edison (they make electricity) to companies laying people off.

ALL those who are getting laid off and DID NOT vote for His Infantile Majesty on Tuesday, my sincerest condolences.

For those getting laid off who DID vote for The Anointed One: He that soweth, so too shall he reapeth.

Damn…Even that sounds bitter & trite. I GRIEVE for my country. Still find myself reeling in Disbelief. Inconsolably SAD.

Funny how things work. CNN Money was telling us Obama was a true job creator last week.

Now…revealed for the first time at CNN

America’s jobs gap: 9 million

theduchessofkitty | November 9, 2012 at 11:46 am

Just wait until the news reports come out of people whose families cannot enjoy Thanksgiving or Christmas because they lost their jobs after the election…

Nah! They will never report it.

“The people have spoken … and they must be punished.”
   – Ed Koch after his re-election defeat in 1989

I’m sorry, but I am really finding it hard to give a damn anymore. Not all of those who voted for Obama are in the permanent welfare class, and thus they voted against their interest.

There were four years of incompetence and outright malice, the economy on the brink of collapse, and yet 39% believed the economy is getting better and promptly voted for Obama.

They couldn’t care enough to be educated on what is probably the most important election in our lifetime. Instead, they just imbibed what is spoonfed to them by a compliant and corrupt media.

By their actions, they’ve sentenced every one of us to four more years of THIS.

Well, I couldn’t care less anymore. I am angry and I am hunkering down. We are cutting down on income and expenses as much as we can to starve the beast of our tax dollars. If I can figure out a way to get on the welfare rolls, I will, if only to push this over the cliff. I want to burn everything down and start from the ashes.

There is no joy in watching the suffering, no schadenfreude. Just a desire to destroy. This is what the electorate wanted. I hope they enjoy every piece of it.

Cowardice everywhere.

Sometimes, you just have to stand up and do what’s right.

100 years ago, enough lionhearts would have ROARED and the government would have backed down. Today, we have nothing but fearful little bureaucrats

Before anyone starts chiding me with invective, I have walked the walk. When I absolutely had to (I don’t go looking for trouble or fights), I stood up and told the truth, both as a military intelligence officer and an engineer on a major engineering project. It has destroyed both of my careers and ruined my health.

And so in addition to those announced layoffs, I am of the belief that many of us in the so called Rich Tax bracket spent the last couple of days changing our financial situation to lower our taxable earnings. I also reduced non essential costs, like the lawn care service-gone for next year thanks to Obama, the cable was reduced from a high level premium to a 1 step above basic level thanks to Obama. I also reduced TV’s and remotes.

This is what going Galt will be and in conjunction with the increase in unemployment and underemployment, more and more Americans spending will decrease at least for those who are the makers not the takers.

We have already seen the 2007 Walmart shopper move down to the 2012 Dollar General stores. Now mainstream 2007 Grocery Store shoppers are moving down the ladder to 2012 Walmart. It is not surprising that high end stores like Trader Joe’s, World Markets, and Targets will consolidate, reduce and retrench. Market places are shrinking and downsizing. Food costs are going up, food sizes are going down.

Going Galt, the disengagement from previously normal activity will be a serious drag on the economy. That drag will continue the rise in unemployment and underemployment.

Not sour grapes, just the reality of the results of Nov. 6th.

As Thatcher so aptly said, “Socialism is great until you run out of other people’s money.”. Printing more is not a solution, but gas on the flames.

This will be more damaging to the next two years

Barack Obama Still Has His Job, Do You?

Jack The Ripper | November 9, 2012 at 3:32 pm

Ocean’s 14: We hack into the Clintons and Obamas bank accounts and make off with all their money.

Ve vant ze money, Lebowski!

They said if I voted for Romney there would be increased unemployment and layoffs! They were right! :O

This was logical. I wonder if any/many of you understand business here. Our future plans depended on the outcome of this election. If Romney got elected we were ready to pull the trigger and prepare for possible expansion of US business. If Obama were elected we would hunker down and try to just survive on what we could and go forward with our international business.

Any management staff worth anything would have already had two plans in action ready for post election. The good ones just pulled the trigger now instead of dragging it out for themselves and their employees.
