No, the CIA is not going to take the fall for Obama on Libya-gate (Part 2)

No, the CIA is not going to take the fall for Obama on Libya-gate (Part 2)

In my post on October 19 (which seems soooo long ago), No, the CIA is not going to take the fall for Obama on Libya-gate, I predicted:

In a ritual as old as the existence of the modern intelligence community, leaks are beginning to spill out protecting the CIA from having to take the fall for Obama’s Libya cover-up….

18 days until the election. I hope the bureaucrats have recharged their cell phones.

Maybe there will be an October surprise after all.

Jennifer Griffin of Fox News reports, today, EXCLUSIVE: CIA operators were denied request for help during Benghazi attack, sources say:

Fox News has learned from sources who were on the ground in Benghazi that an urgent request from the CIA annex for military back-up during the attack on the U.S. Consulate and subsequent attack several hours later was denied by U.S. officials — who also told the CIA operators twice to “stand down” rather than help the ambassador’s team when shots were heard at approximately 9:40 p.m. in Benghazi on Sept. 11.

Former Navy SEAL Tyrone Woods was part of a small team who was at the CIA annex about a mile from the U.S. Consulate where Ambassador Chris Stevens and his team came under attack. When he and others heard the shots fired, they informed their higher-ups at the annex to tell them what they were hearing and requested permission to go to the consulate and help out. They were told to “stand down,” according to sources familiar with the exchange. Soon after, they were again told to “stand down.”

Who are these mysterious sources?

Well, the ones with the fully charged cell phones.

Something that I came to realize a few years ago…

there is not A CIA. There are factions in the CIA, and they are diametrically opposed to each other.

The same is true of State, the DoJ, etc.

Remember, the narrative is that Rice was provided her BS by CIA analysts.

Now, one scandal here is why anyone was accepting what an analyst said over what State and CIA people ON SCENE were relating via email or telephone.

As I’ve said before…layers of scandal here. And they keep getting added to.

Isn’t it true that these “factions” get more unwieldy when there is a lack of clear, strong leadership?

Ragspierre in reply to ALman. | October 26, 2012 at 2:24 pm

Yes. But there is something darker at work here, too.

For decades, players in State, DoJ and the intel community have been very actively working to foster the Collective and destroy or damage America.

They are being given full permission under the Obami.

Browndog in reply to Ragspierre. | October 26, 2012 at 2:44 pm

The former regional security officer in Libya, Eric Nordstrom, recalled talking to a regional director and asking for twelve security agents.

“His response to that was, ‘You are asking for the sun, moon and the stars.’ And my response to him – his name was Jim – ‘Jim, you know what makes most frustrating about this assignment? It is not the hardships, it is not the gunfire, it is not the threats. It is dealing and fighting against the people, programs and personnel who are supposed to be supporting me. And I added (sic) it by saying, ‘For me the Taliban is on the inside of the building.’”

Browndog in reply to ALman. | October 26, 2012 at 2:25 pm

      Depends-

What if the good guys are the “faction”, and the bad guys are in “leadership”?

      What if….

NC Mountain Girl in reply to Browndog. | October 26, 2012 at 2:53 pm

Who are the good guys and who are the bad guys seems to depends upon who the leakers target is.

My reading is this time it is personal. Even the die hard collectivists at CIA and State get queasy when their own friends become the eggs that got broken to make the omelet.

Doug Feith’s book contained an illuminating discussion of the CIA. Some of the differences with the Bus administration were certainly policy based but others looked like bureaucratic cover our butts BS taken to the extreme.

pamiam in reply to Ragspierre. | October 26, 2012 at 4:17 pm

Right Scoop has a video of Rush Limbaugh and a caller who blows the lid off all the lies .If this call could get legs it would cost obama the election. go to right scoop and take a listen!!!

Hmmm, was this “sacrifice” of an American ambassador a classic “quid pro quo” in the old Arabic tradition for UBL in order to “buy” some peace? I dunno, but the possibility exists.

In any event, the coverup was as amateurish as could be imagined.

There should be prison terms for this.

This is sickening. We have a sitting President, Secretarys of State, Defense, and Intelligence who watched our guys murdered by Al Queda and did nothing but lie to the American people. We have media people who also knew and are purposely preventing the American people from knowing what happened. Words do not describe what I am feeling about this….

Those two CIA agents are heros. May justice be done on their behalf. As a country, We can not let those who allowed this horrific event to occur to go unpunished.

scfanjl in reply to tazz. | October 26, 2012 at 12:54 pm

Ditto. I don’t have words for my emotions right now.

I am heartbroken for the families.

Catherine in reply to tazz. | October 26, 2012 at 3:15 pm

President Obama is super pro-choice. In Illinois he approved of killing babies who were aborted and yet “born alive”. I think there are some pro-choice people who would not approve of killing babies born alive.

A man who approves of killing babies in the womb and aborted babies “born alive” just might not care that much about our ambassador and the ambassador’s support people as is now clear.

I never supported going into Iraq and our mission in Libya.

President Obama started our involvement in Libya and should have done a much better job with it. I think McCain would have done a better job but I’m not sure how much better a job he would have done.

Both elite Republicans and elite Democrats somehow think that we can turn these muslim countries into democratic countries with islamic flavoring. Unfortunately, Islam ruins everything it touches and elites in this country still don’t get it or if they have somehow concluded this they will never admit it in public. Yes, there are muslim people who are good and their being good has nothing to do with Islam.

I would prefer our country have minimal dealings with muslim countries and send many of their students back home and reduce the amount of aid being given to them.

Stonewall for five more days.

That is all.

WWJD: What would Jay-Z do?

Catherine in reply to Sally Paradise. | October 26, 2012 at 3:35 pm

I don’t know Jay-Z but I think that Jay-Z would have been much more helpful to the ambassador and the other people in Benghazi than President Obama was.

I am so angry. I have never felt such contempt for a president before and that’s saying something, remembering my rage at Clinton.

God bless those brave soldiers – and the families and friends they left behind. And may the American people speak up loudly. This man and his minions have to go.

Dunno if that is gospel, but the story is we HAD Spooky on target, with a CIA guy laser-designating the mortar team firing on the annex, and they were not allowed to fire.

The mortar fire is what killed out two former SEALS.

All the skeletons are coming out now.
No wonder Obama wants early voting. Its going to get ugly.

How interesting at Gallup just now

Obama Approval48%-3 Obama Disapproval47%+3

Imagine not having Fox News?

Well, maybe, just maybe, now people will quit referring to the “consulate annex” and “safe house”.

Try top secret CIA OPS, where “security was not required, because no one knew it existed”

Has it dawned on anybody yet how al Qaida seemed to know about it’s location?

How much equipment, data, electronics, codes, contacts, etc. are now in the hands of al Qaida?

Anybody wonder why it seems those calling the shots actually broke normal protocols to allow it to happen?

The more that comes out, the more we are going to have to confront ugly, ugly truths that nobody wants to even let their minds entertain for even a moment.

ALman in reply to Browndog. | October 26, 2012 at 1:59 pm

“Sacrificial lambs”? If so, for what reason? I don’t know of any scenario that has this president and his administration demonstrating care and concern for subordinates as well as competency of command.

Browndog in reply to ALman. | October 26, 2012 at 2:14 pm

The Obama Administration has gotten a hullava lot of mileage out of things being chalked up to “incompetence”.

You may have found yourself saying out loud “I’ve never seen an Administration this incompetent!”

      For good reason.

If instead you found yourself saying “Nobody can be that incompetent!”

      …..you’d be right.

ALman in reply to Browndog. | October 26, 2012 at 2:39 pm

The implication being that it’s possible to be so devious in order to achieve the desired objectives while not minding about the “hits” on competency, as long as they don’t get “out-of-hand”. Oh, but it’s so much simpler as portrayed by the sit-coms.

We may be looking at this wrongly…for The Punk (POTUS) it was a gladiator contest, the ultimate spectator sport just for Him & selected friends.

    Catherine in reply to serfer1962. | October 26, 2012 at 4:24 pm

I really hope not because that would show a level of contempt for the ambassador and the others on the ground that our president should not have.

Supposedly President Obama is a christian but I think that is in name only. Certainly, he hasn’t followed the golden rule!

Panetta lied through his teeth when he claimed the military was not unleashed because of too little intel.

That sat wrong when I heard it, and now we know a lot more.

There were people THERE, with phones. There was at least one drone aloft. There was a live video feed. There were emails.

Somebody went into fetal mode in DC. We are left to guess who.

also from that report … a CIA operator on the roof was lazing the mortar team asking for someone to hit it … why would he be risking his life like that if the closest assets where hundreds of miles away ? something smells …

was there a CIA tasked gunship in the air (for other reasons) ?

The CIA will not “take one” for team Obama on this …

Ditto what tazz and JoAnne said. The anger I feel is palpable.

That said, I feel greatly relieved to know how these four men died. I’ve been sick with anxiety that they were captured, tortured, and beheaded, with barbarians exulting over their sufferings all the while.

These heroes each earned a hero’s death. To learn that they could have been rescued instead is infuriating.

Can politicians be prosecuted for their dereliction of duty, their contributory role to these deaths? They’re all in favor of prosecuting the military guys on the ground for murder (e.g., the Haditha marines), but no one seems ready to hold the civilian leadership to the same level of responsibility. Or to any level of responsibility. I hate them all.

[…] Morrisey chimes in, as do Patterico, William Jacobson, and protein wisdom, among others. Check Memeorandum for […]

dorsaighost: It was heart breaking reading the part about the laser. They even called in the coordinates, asking for a gunship to hit the mortar they had the laser on. The laser that would later kill them.

I don’t know if it meant they were literally putting the laser on the mortar. But they had the capability. And the cowards on the other end of the conversation KNEW they had laser tag capability. Couldn’t they have sent an armed drone to send a missile down the laser line?????

Midwest Rhino | October 26, 2012 at 2:32 pm

Stand down, and take a mortar hit for the team, Obama needs an October surprise?

I guess mere cowardice is more likely, hoping to keep air strikes out of the news, to downplay the incident (for political reasons of course). Doubtful (but possible) reduced security was to invite an attack for a “rally around the president” sort of hail Mary for Obama’s campaign.

Another forgotten incident of cowardice (or complicity in making US weaker) was when we left the drone in Iran, when we could have destroyed it. We did not need permission to cross the border, Iran was already at war with us in Iraq and Afghanistan. And Obama openly bragged about going into Pakistan without permission. Obama just gave up the technology.

Browndog in reply to Midwest Rhino. | October 26, 2012 at 2:57 pm

Don’t forget about the heli we left in Pakistan during the Bin Laden raid.

There’s too much to list–too much to call it “incompetence”

Did anyone hear Doug from Texas calling in to Rush’s show today. He was Spec Ops and gave all the insider info on what was happening in Libya and Wash DC as the attacks unfolded. Ozero and the whole damn bunch are lying thru their teeth.

I am absolutely sick that 4 Americans were murdered because Ozero was playing politics. And think about it – he got on a plane the next morning and flew to a fundraiser in Vegas. Not one once of concern for what just happened. If the LSM media does not start doing their jobs the uprising may happen on the streets of NYC for their aiding and abetting the murder of our citizens.

Midwest Rhino | October 26, 2012 at 2:48 pm

So how complicit was big media in attacking Romney as cover for Obama being too stoned (or asleep, or stupid, whatever) to make the brave call this time? Me thinks they protested so much, perhaps because they were tipped at how bad this was, and that it would destroy Obama.

So they threw smoke grenades and created diversionary action with Romney, and Obama diverted with the video and our free speech “problem”. They lied.

But with the CIA leaking (and maybe they need Obama out anyway, for 100 other reasons), and FOX all over this, what happens if the rest of media is forced into covering this extremely damaging story, just days before the election? Do the rats jump ship early, leaving Captain BS to go down, to his happy Hawaii mansion?

The target was “painted”, DC overruled the combat hardened men on the ground. The shot not taken, but still heard round the world. This completely negates “I shot bin Laden” on the bravery score, but is much worse since he lied about it for political gain.

Glenn Beck interviews father of Tyrone Woods today:
http://www.theblaze.com/stories/joe-biden-to-father-of-former-navy-seal-killed-in-benghazi-did-your-son-always-have-balls-the-size-of-cue-balls/
I’ve never felt such disgust for U.S. government officials.I pray everyday that God would deliver us from D.C. corruptocrats. Benghazi-gate is high treason.
Remember what Bill Clinton said after the U.S.Cole massacre? And nothing was ever done to avenge those 17 American citizens/marines who died. In fact, Slick Willie was reelected. Hilary Clinton said the same lie at the coffin of the Ambassador. Truth is nothing will be done-in his words “A bump in the road”.
Youtube actually has videos of the Ambassador after death and the savage things that were done with his body, dragged through the streets behind a truck. Brigitte Gabriel(who speaks Arabic) said that Arabic communications were broadcasting the jihadists video of what they did to his body.

Actually, it way worse than that:

AC-130U Gunship was On-Scene in Benghazi, Obama Admin Refused to Let It Fire

http://pjmedia.com/tatler/2012/10/26/ac-130u-gunship-was-on-scene-in-benghazi-obama-admin-refused-to-let-it-fire/

The security officer had a laser on the target that was firing and repeatedly requested back-up support from a Specter gunship, which is commonly used by U.S. Special Operations forces to provide support to Special Operations teams on the ground involved in intense firefights. The fighting at the CIA annex went on for more than four hours — enough time for any planes based in Sigonella Air base, just 480 miles away, to arrive. Fox News has also learned that two separate Tier One Special operations forces were told to wait, among them Delta Force operators.

Whether or not a counter attack by the AC 130 U would have saved all 4 lives ceases to be the issue when you don’t even bother to use the assets you have. That meets the definition of feckless leadership. Obama didn’t even to try to save the ambassador. He had real time information via drone and on site assets.

Investors Business Daily quotes McCain and Lindsey Graham about these latest revelations:
“The last two casualties occurred well over six hours after the initial attack,” Sens. John McCain and Lindsey Graham noted. “It is disappointing to hear that our national command authorities failed to try to reinforce the consulate with timely air assets, and that a consulate located in one of the most dangerous regions in the world was so unsecured.”
http://news.investors.com/ibd-editorials/102512-630874-no-marines-with-bayonets-at-benghazi.htm?p=full

“Disappointing” Mr. Graham? Is that the most apt word you can come up with? I remember that when Dick Durbin compared the United States military to the Nazis, Graham’s official statement declared the remark “unfair.” Open a capillary, why don’t you, Mr. Graham.

These two senators are among the most pro-military politicians in Congress, yet this weak tea response apparently expresses the extent of their outrage. And I think we have now learned exactly how little our so-called representatives will do to seek truth, justice, and the American way for the brave men who died in Benghazi.

Browndog in reply to J Motes. | October 26, 2012 at 3:25 pm

    That’s because they are culpable.

No one fought harder to arm the rebels al Qaida than those two.

Well, no one other than Hillary Clinton.

Henry Hawkins | October 26, 2012 at 3:23 pm

The WH, State, and Intel have been playing hot potato with Benghazi. We’ve heard plenty from Obama at the WH, Hillary from State, and David Patraeus director of the CIA, so…..

Hey, wait a minute. Not so much as a peep from Patraeus, director of the CIA since Benghazi happened. Now, why would that be? Hey MSM – this is what we call a ‘clue’. Go find Patraeus – there’s a reason he’s been ordered silent on Benghazi.

Henry Hawkins | October 26, 2012 at 3:24 pm

P – E – traeus. Sorry.

Of course the administration is going to deny there were any resources in the area capable of helping the people at the consulate or the CIA annex but what I find disturbing is the claim that operators were on the roof of the annex calling in coordinates for targets. If there was no assets capable of taking out those targets, why would they be calling in the location? Wouldn’t the CIA operators have a pretty damned good idea of exactly what support would be available?

You see that Fox News video the Professor posted at the top-

Other videos, still shots…

Cars and building engulfed in flames, embers burning from a fresh RPG strikes, Militants walking about in the streets-

ever wonder who shot that video?

2nd Ammendment Mother | October 26, 2012 at 4:00 pm

The more that comes out the more I like this bit of speculation over at Doug Ross @ Journal. If you notice, nobody is talking about the Blind Sheik for the last month?
http://directorblue.blogspot.com/2012/10/benghazi-gate-did-two-heroic-seals-ruin.html
“It’s a conspiracy theory, to be sure, but “Kozy” asserts the Benghazi attack was an “October Surprise” gone awry thanks to two SEALs who weren’t even supposed to be in Benghazi.

The scenario is both simple and plausible:
……………..
• Back-channel communications between the White House and the Imam’s legal representatives confirm that a swap can be achieved with a high-level hostage exchange. The Imam’s cronies are informed that Ambassador Stevens has no security in Benghazi. So the Imam can be secured through a trade after capturing Stevens who doesn’t even have a single bodyguard.”

So either it’s a conspiracy or incompetence.

And I’m supposed to choose one or the other when it comes to the Obama administration?

    Thank you 2nd Ammendment Mother!!!

I want to gag when I read comments tut, tutting about Zero’s incompetence, assuming his good intentions. (Spit.)

The scenario posited at the link you provided is far more plausible than that Zero is incompetent.

Browndog in reply to logos. | October 26, 2012 at 6:00 pm

I posted the “kidnapping” theory on this blog two weeks ago.

Though I still believe it could be true, I think that was secondary.

I believe the attack on the consulate was a diversion. I believe the CIA OPS was the primary target.

I am on record here at Li from the very outbreak of this story . I am not American but seemed to be a thousand times more upset by this episode Than 90>% of your countrymen.

Am restricted in what I can say because I have a close relative in a high security band & do not want their file as reading ” has lunatic relative into conspiracy theories”.

However this incident goes to the heart of not just -America but the whole western world. IMO we have lost Britain &. Most of Europe.

now I may as well say it . methinks purges will be necessary , Not good but it has every familiarities .

these people will not go away quietly.

Obama’s Benghazi was gross negligence, dereliction of duty and moral turpitude. There are no excuses to explain it.

We are starting to get some informed comment from our people in the military.

There are questions that can be formulated now.

“Panetta: Critics ‘Monday Morning Quarterbacking’ White House Handling Of Libya Attack”

Is this a slip, of sorts? Normally, “Monday-Morning-Quarterbacking” takes place after a lose. Come on, Leon. Don’t talk to us in “code.”

http://washington.cbslocal.com/2012/10/26/panetta-critics-monday-morning-quarterbacking-white-house-handling-of-libya-attack/

Then, there’s this:
“Petraeus Throws Obama Under the Bus”

Breaking news on Benghazi: the CIA spokesman, presumably at the direction of CIA director David Petraeus, has put out this statement: “No one at any level in the CIA told anybody not to help those in need; claims to the contrary are simply inaccurate. ”

http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/petraeus-throws-obama-under-bus_657896.html

Henry Hawkins | October 26, 2012 at 8:31 pm

According to Panetta, they didn’t have enough info to send help. In other words, neither Navy Seal on the ground at Benghazi was capable of reporting their situation or providing intel on enemy numbers, weapons, tactics, positions, etc. Naw, that’s way too complicated for a couple Navy Seals.

I guess I have to disagree with the notion. CIA mouthpiece made a statement. Statement that really says absolutely nothing in regard to Benghazi. What does “those in need” mean? The statement is really an attempt at obfuscation and time delay tactic. Where is the head of CIA who has been in hiding for the past 6 weeks? Wh, Hussein, Panetta and Shillary are all on record on the subject, in many cases multiple times on record. And yet no one has seen nor heard from CIA director.

The way CIA statement reads to me is that CIA has NOT received ANY requests for help or to help. It does not read any other way. So, in essence, those on the ground in Benghazi are called liars, since, well, CIA would not refuse to help anyone. Right? Per their own statement.

Will all the new information coming out I do believe Obama knew exactly what was happening and did have a choice to intervene. However you can not say someone is inept when they are acting from ideology and a surety that no matter what they decide it will be covered favorably or not covered at all by the main stream media. If someone is acting honestly with good intentions but doesn’t have the wherewithal to make smart decisions that would be inept. Obama’s decisions are either to forward an ideology or protect and advance himself. Lives lost or lives ruined have no meaning to him. Evil seems almost to kind a description of a person so devoid of empathy and so intent on destruction.
