Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the United Nations General Assembly in New York today, using a drawing of a bomb as a visual aid to express the Iranian nuclear program. He drew a red line where he believes the UN should intervene.
Netanyahu:
I brought a diagram for you. Here’s the diagram. This is a bomb; this is a fuse. In the case of Iran’s nuclear plans to build a bomb, this bomb has to be filled with enough enriched uranium. And Iran has to go through three stages….where’s Iran? Iran’s completed the first stage. Took them many years, but they completed it and they are 70% of the way there. Now they are well into the second stage.
And by next spring, at most by next summer, at current enrichment rates, they will have finished the medium enrichment and move on to the final stage. From there it’s only a few months, possibly a few weeks, before they get enough enriched uranium for the first bomb….
If these are the facts, and they are, where should a red line be drawn? A red line should be drawn right here. Before Iran completes the second stage of nuclear enrichment necessary to make a bomb. Before Iran gets to a point where it’s a few months away, or a few weeks away, from amassing enough enriched uranium to make a nuclear weapon.
Now each day that point is getting closer, and that’s why I speak today with such a sense of urgency.

I know Im probably alone on this one but I didn’t like his speech. He mentions Iran having a nuclear breakout in spring of next year, but the estimates I’ve seen show it most likely happening by the end of this year (I show some here http://libertarian-neocon.blogspot.com/2012/09/bibi-netyanyaju-may-have-just-blinked.html). And given how there is a lot more cloud cover in winter, Israel needs to attack within a month. I think Bibi just allowed Iran to get a bomb by bowing to pressure from Obama to delay an attack.
Netanyahu has been, and remains, THE most eloquent and powerful voice in the world against nuclear proliferation in the Middle East.
He is a leader. He speaks clearly. He is firm. He garners support by his courage and his eloquence.
He is a believer. He recalls, and HAS SEEN BEFORE, the potent power of the Great Jehovah preserve Israel from its enemies. I can only suspect that some, just some, of his most favorite Bible verses are these from Isaiah 50:8-11 (KJV)

Consider the possiblity that you have taken from Bibi’s speech what Bibi hopes the Iranians take from it – no imminent Israeli strike. Were I planning an imminent strike, I’d love to have my target think it was not at all imminent. Sometimes politicians misdirect and lie.
I would also value Israeli intelligence on Iranian nuke progress and facility locations over any other intelligence out there. For Israel, the issue is literally existential, which sharpens one’s intelligence efforts.
I was thinking the same thing……never tell your enemy when and where you will hit. That is for amateurs like our boy Hussein!
