If the tape doesn’t knock Romney out, the media narrative is toast

If the tape doesn’t knock Romney out, the media narrative is toast

What will the media do?  It has invested everything in the tape.

But there is a pretty fierce counterpunch being delivered on talk radio, on Twitter, in the blogosphere, and even on television when allowed.

There is good reason to believe that Obama’s post-convention bounce already is unbouncing, via Ace:

In the beginning of the bounce, it was thought that Obama’s lead would grow over the next week, as the seven-day track included days from before DNC. Ergo, as those relatively bad days for Obama dropped off the track, we could expect the lead to grow.

Which is about what happened.

But now the best days of this track, for Obama, come earlier in the track, and will soon be dropping out of it.  Meaning that Obama’s one point lead will probably vanish, and Romney might even go ahead by a point or two.

If the media cannot knock Romney out over the tape, it’s a new ballgame and Romney will have the momentum.

Don’t be disheartened, be encouraged. The moment of weakness shown by some Republican commentators will pass.

This entire story is ridiculous. The only questionable word he said was victim, but this is from months ago and something that was said at a private dinner. But what is factually wrong with what he said?

Fox News:

MITT ROMNEY LIVE ON ‘CAVUTO’ AT 4PM ET!

theduchessofkitty | September 18, 2012 at 2:39 pm

“During times of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act.” – George Orwell

Mitt Romney told the truth. The MSM have been universally deceitful.

What he said was, indeed, “Revolutionary”!

If, at 4pm, Romney is as effective as Sununu was, it could well be a “Revolutionary” moment for him and his campaign.

    VerrrrrY interesting
    Romney’s on Cavuto’s at 4pm
National Weather Service has issued a tornado warning for WASHINGTON D.C.

CalMark in reply to ALman. | September 18, 2012 at 3:44 pm

      Not surprising.

During the DNC, The weather channel online was predicting partly cloudy skies for every hour of the evening…except during the critical T (for thunderstorms)-hour, when they were predicting — you guessed it! — thunderstorms. I have the screen captures. (I’ll send ’em if you want ’em, Professor.)

Even the weather people are in the tank for Obama. A-MAZ-ING.

I just read Bill Kristol’s comments about Romney’s comments. I am stunned at how stupid and arrogant Kristol is. Bill Kristol is now dead to me.

What Romney said on that tape about the Arabs masquerading as “Palestinians” is why I will vote for him.

Sununu absolutely owned Andrea Mitchell. A stronger response would be hard to imagine. He hit everything wouldn’t let Mitchell talk over him, rebuffed all of her phony narratives, and rendered her speechless with confusion several times.

As for Bill Kristol, he’s been off the reservation for years. He was VERY nasty about Palin, which cost him a lot of business. So poor ol’ Bill has turned traitor to stay relevant. The price of fame is often one’s soul. Right Billy-boy?

PhillyGuy in reply to CalMark. | September 18, 2012 at 4:34 pm

Well while Sununu was passionate about his comments, he never directly answered anything she said. So I don’t think he was particularly effective. If our side can deal with the questions directly and not deflect, then we would be more persuasive.

But, on the other hand, it’s Andrea Mitchell, a low IQ reporter.

CalMark in reply to PhillyGuy. | September 18, 2012 at 6:13 pm

Sununu didn’t simply told Mitchell he disagreed with her false premises, as almost everything she said was a lie. He didn’t refuse to answer questions. The two concepts are a lot different.

When Mitchell tried to trap him with straw men and phony arguments, Sununu spoke to the “larger issue.” That’s how you win arguments.

Of course, we could take everything the Democrats say at face value, respond to it directly, and allow them to define “facts,” parameters for acceptability, and arguments. We’d be losers, but good little gentlefolk losers.

There’s a huge moral victory for you! “We’re better than them!” The GOP battle cry since FDR!

PhillyGuy in reply to CalMark. | September 18, 2012 at 6:39 pm

Look we’re on the same side, so I’m not upset with Sununu. I just think he didn’t a good job of rebutting anything after the initial comment. He talked over her. He’s been better.

Then again, nothing of value ever comes out of Andrea Mitchell’s mouth. She’s the female Larry King.

Andrea Mitchell: where boners go to die.

Who “surreptitiously” recorded Romney at a private function? Audio-taping without permission in Florida is a felony.

theduchessofkitty | September 18, 2012 at 3:00 pm

Again, if anyone comes to you saying that Romney didn’t tell the truth about the core Obama voter, please show them this video:

Obama Is Going to Pay For My Gas and My Mortgage!

That ends any and all argument as to whether he told the truth or not.

When I see the media feeding frenzies I assume there is something they want to avoid talking about or investigating.
Can I imagine a scenario where a desperate Obama campaign like a deer caught in headlights presses for any sort of distraction?
Are we surprised to see an old campaign video suddenly surface just as the 4 killed Americans are burried?
As the riots abroad reach into the 23 or 24th country?
With Obama’s poll numbers hitting the skids at both Gallup and Rasmussen? Think about that. A 5 point turnaround/slide at Gallup with Obama’s lead.
You dont think democrats are frantic?

And now this video of some fundraiser from May.
These folks will stop at nothing.

Boil it all down and its back to Obama’s Life of Julia or a Romney alternative.

On an early post here, someone said this week is the release of the “Fast and Furious” by Eric Holder Report!

YES, PROFESSOR–WE LOVE YOUR ATTITUDE–NEVER GIVE UP; NEVER LOSE HOPE.

“Crazy, Lying, Presstitutes”

[“Presstitutes” are Media Whores/Prostitutes.
Lacking honor and betraying America they sell their souls one lie at a time.]

The Presstitutes say Barrack is God!
“You ‘little people’ should be awed!
“You’re Savior’s triumphs you should laud!”
Crazy, crazy Presstitutes!

The Presstitutes claim “BO won the war!”
“And killed the villain at his door,
“The Seals were ‘BACKUP’, nothing more!”
Lying, lying Presstitutes!

The Presstitutes allege “Secret news”,
So hot that it would blow our fuse!
And prove Mitt Romney’s crazy views.
Phony Balony Presstitutes!

[The fact is: Romney spoke the truth,
“Entitlements are through the roof”
The GAO* HAS ALL THE PROOF,
Fraudulent, deceptive Presstitutes!]

The Presstitutes need a lengthy rest,
From the socialists that they love best,
Lacking Truth, THEY’RE LOUSY GUESTS!
GOOD BYE PRESSTITUTES!

* GAO = General Accounting Office.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/right-turn/post/obamas-abject-failure-on-entitlement-reform/2012/04/23/gIQAMzqkcT_blog.html

“Key Quote” = “Taken together, the trustees’ and GAO reports remind us of one of Obama’s most significant domestic failings: his lack of will to address our entitlement programs that are central to a real reduction in our national debt.”
POINT: Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan have “hit the overspending nail on the head”—we reduce wisely; improve productivity vigorously; or we fail MISERABLY. So much for the FRAUDULENT CLAIM THAT GOV. ROMNEY HAS NOT BEEN FORTHRIGHT—he and his V.P. pick have been SOUNDING THE FISCAL ALARM FOR YEARS! We either hear it; or the Republic falls and fails. About 47% of Americans refuse to even admit this is a problem meriting discussion and resolution. What happens when those checks stop coming? Will the Media Whores dig deep into their multi-million salaries and make up the shortfall for their “fan boys”? I don’t think so.

I also read Billys post. I found it largely incomprehesible. In an attempt to protect his dwindling ground he tried to have it both ways. He took contradictive points. Like David Brooks , his audiance is the eastern elete brain trust. He see’s himself as the most clever mind in the room. That room is the guardshack of his overblown ego.

My question is: Kristol made several very specific claims of fact about who gets what in terms of government aid. He provided no sources, cites, or links in support of his claims.

It’s a pity Weekly Standard doesn’t allow comments, or I’d ask him myself…

Truly – does anyone really think this is a problem for Romney? Does anyone not see that this is SPIN trying to make hay out of the TRUTH, out of REALITY?!

These people live in an echo chamber – but really? They don’t see this as something that most people WANT Romney to say, because they are LIVING it?! Are they truly that insulated, that dense, that completely removed from reality.

Don’t answer that last part. I know. I know.

Kinda reminds me of this: “…that word [or in this case, this Romney “super-secret” audio clip]…I do not think it means what you think it means….”

Bill Kristol? Bill Kristol? That irrelevant hack?

Like we all hang on that guy’s every word… hehehe

…amazing how it is some people get paid to be a yawner.

Every question about his 47% remark should be answered with a reference to Obama’s bitter, gun-clinging, religious comment.

I am not worried this tape coming out now…

The Benghazi Massacre and Obama’s fibbing it was a a populist impromptu protest triggered that “October Surprise” to surface before it’s time.

I love the smell of liberal desperation in the morning…

Are republicans deliberately trying to lose? This is not an idle question. I have come across conservatives on other sites who believe the economy is going to suffer even more than the ’08 crisis in the next four years. They believe this is a mathematical certainty, and plan to either not vote or vote for Obama to ensure he is tarred with the economic blowup. This has come up again as more than just Kristol is targeting Romney. There has been some speculation that the Rhino establishment is trying to throw the election due to their beliefs about the economy. Is this a possibility? If wondering about my own stance, I have been on the fence for most of the year, but current events have put me in Romney’s camp. I forsee imminent war, and war under Obama terrifies me.

Just a note: Romney will be on Niel Cavuto on Fox at 4ET

Romney explained what he believes on Cavuto’s. I don’t believe he hurt himself, although he didn’t seem to have a “Revolutionary” moment either.

raven in reply to ALman. | September 18, 2012 at 4:57 pm

I’m afraid it just isn’t in the guy to have a revolutionary moment. But if he can more or less hold his own, it will probably be good enough. Can you do that, Mitt? For us?

For someone I regarded as a RINO, Sunnunu is a major slugger.

Krystal, on the other hand once again shows he is a jackass.

Bambi’s post-convention bounce is gone and according to Gallup he’s back down to…

…47%.

47%. Wait, why does that number sound familiar? Oh.

BOOM.

“Demoralized as Hell, The poll the media isn’t talking about edition”

“For the last two weeks we have been treated to the narrative that Barack Obama is surging at the polls, Mitt Romney is in trouble and unless there is a massive change in direction it is all over.

Simply put this is a lie.

Of all the polls you have seen, there is one poll that has gotten no attention, it is a poll that has been taken monthly, it is a poll that Doug Ross spotted and promoted on his site. It is the Rasmussen Poll of party identification.

“All of the figures I’ve cited are from a source publicly available. The Media know these figures, the left knows these figures and the Networks know these figures.

Yet they are still using polls with huge democrat samples and representing them as real.

I don’t know what that tells you but I sure know what it tells me

“Ride right through them, they’re demoralized as hell”!”

Democrats Will Let Tax Cuts Expire

Senator Patty Murray of Washington, a member of the Democratic leadership, said on Monday that her party is prepared to allow all of the Bush-era tax cuts to expire and for automatic spending cuts to kick in unless Republicans give up their opposition to tax increases on the wealthy.

Ms. Murray’s tough line, in a speech at the Brookings Institution, signaled a stiffening of Democratic resolve a week after President Obama reiterated his demand for a one-year extension in the Bush-era tax cuts only for people earning less than $250,000. The Murray speech kicked off intense counterattacks from Republicans who charged that Democrats are steering the nation back into economic recession.

“In their near-fanatical crusade to inflict even more pain on American businesses, Democrats are now openly admitting that they plan to wait until this debate reaches full throttle and Americans are panicked about the outcome to do anything, because they think it will make it likelier they’ll get their way,” said Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, the Republican leader. “And if they don’t, then so be it. They’re ready to accept the economic and fiscal consequences.”

If Obama wins, I think they will abort this, but if Romney wins, this will happen if the Democrats have any say.

I’m sure that Andrea Mitchell’s spinchter tightened when she found out that John Sununu was going to be her guest. Watching Big Bad John working a Lefty reminds me of my old cat systematically dismembering a roach before he willfully dispatches it to that big Chinese restaurant in the sky.

The poll is at yahoo business

    POLL.
Do Governor Romney’s remarks at a recent fundraiser regarding 47% of Americans being dependent on government make you more or less likely to support his candidacy?

.More likely (43046) – your vote
    47%
    Less likely (25889)
    29%
    Will have no impact (21846)
    24%
    .

    .

Listen, if Romney is tied with Obama or even if Obama is a % point or two ahead on the national polls, it would seem to me that Obama is in deep doo-doo. Those national polls take in Democratic strongholds like California, New York, and most of the northeast where the results would skew strongly toward Obama. Yes in a national election those electoral votes would go to the Dems. BUT there are a whole lot of states with much smaller populations–and therefore smaller representaion in the national polls–that will be voting for Romney and Ryan. The sum of their electoral votes will far out number those of the few densely populated states.

Say Obama wins New York (29 ev) by 10% but loses Ohio (18 ev), Wisconsin (10 ev), Indiana (11 ev), and Michigan (17 ev). by 2% each. he can’t redistribute his New York votes to help him out.

RUSH was absolutely on-fire about this today. The poll from CNBC that Rags linked at townhall.com above backs up Maja Rushdie. The Lapdog Pigs of the MSM sooooooooooo desperately wanted this to be a Biggy.
Booooooo-Hoooooo…!

Hey, William even found that the vivacious and ever needy-dependent Julia is pi**ed.

It might be my imagination, but Sununu and Mitchell seem to enjoy their combat.

Speculation: They dare not say so, but just maybe some members of the media aren’t averse to more balance. Some might feel that way out of journalistic ethics; others may recognize that they’ll lose their jobs unless the ratings-destroying leftist status quo changes; others may realize that controversy builds viewership and their salaries go up with audience size.

It is difficult to believe that this is the same campaign that went after Gingrich and Santorum with such determined vile and negative campaigning in the primaries.

They just can’t and won’t do the same against Obama? Ever stop to wonder why?

Mitt is the reason that Mitt isn’t up by 10% to 15% in the polls.

    CalMark in reply to WarEagle82. | September 18, 2012 at 7:04 pm

    Well said!

If Newt had gotten the nomination, he’d probably be ahead by your 10 or 15 points, easily. And Obama would be in full meltdown mode, adding points to Newt’s lead weekly.

The Romney response on Cavuto…ugh. Disappointing.

Started strong referring to the Obama “redistribution” video. Slid into “government helping people in need.” (I can see “W” from my TV.) So far, OK, trending “meh.”

Then it got dicey.

Word salad campaign propaganda sidestepping Cavuto’s question about “Trump says get or lose.” C’mon, Mitt: tell us WHY you’re so scared to go after Obama with truth; you didn’t hesitate to go after Newt with lies.

Softball question about Carter IV leaking the video; Mitt takes a called third strike. Won’t even touch it; more word salad campaign propaganda. Scared even to criticize a Carter’s grandson? Grow a pair, Mitt.

Mediocre interview at best. Still voting for him, but it’s only close because Mitt is too cowardly to do what he needs to do.

I have a dream that about the third week of January, 2013 the US Marshalls will be summoned to extract someone from the premises at the White House. Who will it be and for what reason? Even when and if he loses, the commander-in-thief will pronounce his belief in redistribution for years to come. Private property only belongs to him; not you. If the truth about “47%” doesn’t resonate positively on November 6th, then we as a nation have lost more than we know or suspect.

Just a thought: What if the tape was an October surprise that had to be pulled out early to distract from the disastrous results of Obama’s Middle East policy? The tape was from May, it’s now mid-September. The tape was a big bullet, no doubt (see hysterical Republican elite). So why now? When Obama was supposedly riding his convention bounce to certain victory?

Well…the sight of an American ambassador being hauled out of a charred building, brutally murdered and his body desecrated in the streets, along with the black flags of our enemies unfurled over our embassies, on 9/11 (!!!), would probably justify the use of the tape now to distract from the administration’s unfathomably reckless policies that not only invited the attacks but ensured their success.

And distract it has. But now subsequent events like Romney’s counter-attacks, Corn’s edit, John Sununu (smile) and so forth have time to play out. And the debates are yet to come instead of being past.

There are undoubtedly more bullets in the clip, but they had to use a big one, maybe THE big one, before they probably wanted to. So if it doesn’t knock Romney out, and so far it hasn’t (it’s hilarious how much “Obama-47%” is showing up in the current polls), might this be at the very least an inside-baseball win for Romney?
