Obama gives cold shoulder to black news outlets

Obama gives cold shoulder to black news outlets

Black newspaper publishers expressed anger and frustration at President Obama’s failure to reach out to them at a recent panel at the National Newspaper Publishers Association convention.

The Chicago Crusader reports:

“We don’t think the president has ever spoken to us. He’s spoken to the Latino community and he’s been specific,” said Robert W. Bogle, publisher of the Philadelphia Tribune and a former NNPA president. “This is the first president since Franklin Roosevelt that has not invited the Black Press to the White House (for an interview).” Although President Obama has met several times with African-American newspaper publishers at the White House, he has never addressed an NNPA convention.  The NNPA News Service has made repeated requests for a one-on-one interview with the president, but those requests have been denied.

Some  feel the opportunity (as members of the media) to craft Obama’s message for him has been lost:

Sonny Messiah Jiles, publisher of the Houston Defender, said: “We’re trying to give you feedback from the ground up, this is not an attack. We’re trying to educate you on how to shape our message because right now your message is not coming through to our readers or to the community. And in some cases, some of us aren’t clear on what your message is.”

In a piece entitled “Is President Obama Shutting out the Black Press,” Breitbart’s Rebel Pundit uncovers the growing disharmony in this community of publishers:

Unfortunately, as we in other media outlets are aware, the President doesn’t seem to like talking with any media all that much, as witnessed by his rare occasion to conduct formal press conferences and lay-up interviews with “main-stream media.” While President Obama’s adviser can relay messages to the Black Press at their annual conference regarding the need to defend the his record, it is falling on deaf ears of publishers who are looking for more access to get more answers to their unasked questions.

Then again, maybe that is just how President Obama prefers it…

If the Black Press has to spend their time asking questions about why they aren’t getting any interviews, then they aren’t getting chance to ask questions the president most likely doesn’t want to answer, like, where are the jobs Mr. President?

The first gay Preezy and his VP both have a habit of locking press in a closet.

Obama believes that he will get his 96% or so of Eric Holder’s people’s vote, and he is probably right. He believes his people just tune out the right. Someday, however, American blacks are going to come to understand that what Romney said yesterday, and what West has been saying all along, is correct.

If the numbers start to turn against Obama and he ends up looking like a loser in November, we’ll probably be hearing a lot more about how Obama is “half white.”

stevewhitemd | July 12, 2012 at 4:50 pm

Mitt Romney should be all over this.

Call them. Offer interviews. Put a little advertising money into their papers. Offer to speak at their next national meeting.

He can pretty much repeat what he said at the NAACP conference (which by the way was an excellent speech on his part). He can say to the black newspaper editors and publishers, “you might not like me, you might not agree with me, but I’ll come talk with you and listen to you, and I’ll lay out for you where I want this country to go.”

That has to work at some level.

Mitt doesn’t have to change the minds of the black editors and publishers. He just has to lower their enthusiasm level for Champ.

This cold shoulder Obama is offering could drive his percentage of the black vote down to the mid-to-high 90s.

Great minds think alike…by the way, there was a SNL skit a couple of months ago about what things would drive away black voters from Obama…giving the cold shoulder to black newspapers wasn’t on the list…but it should….

If president Obama keeps doing that he risk getting just 99.2% of the black vote…

Heard a guy on Limbaugh today who seemed pretty strong on the notion that Mittens could poll 8%+ of the AA vote.

That would be excellent…on every level.

    Very good news, if true.

Storm clouds on the horizon: third party candidates. Lots of mini Ross Perots (VA and some other places) looking to tap into the self-righteous smart-aleck vote. Goode in VA reportedly has 10% support.

Who day gonna vote for if not Barack?
They’re in the same situation as the folks that got suckered into the “Barry’s gonna pay your light bill” scam currently wending its way across the countryside.
2,000 suckers in Tampa Bay and 10,000 more suckers in New Jersey. How many more in North Carolina and Ohio where the latest reports are orginating from?
There’s always going to be people looking for something for nothing, and Barry is always going to have an ample supply of that ingredient in his bag of political tricks.
“We have nothing to offer but blood, sweat, toil, and tears” doesn’t hold any attraction for the members of today’s Democratic Party.

Lenin invented this “leadership” method. Stalin “perfected” it. Then Khrushchev, Brezhnev, and all the other criminals.

Barack can’t get away with it. Yet.

The weak-minded have ever been ready to obey one who wields great power. Those who learned the powers of the cracker side were quick to exploit this weakness—to make war. Again and again the cracker side has surged forth, like a storm…devouring whole worlds and entire star systems. Those who mastered cracker power became cracker power. They unleashed destruction, for no other reason than for selfish gain. They despoiled nations…destroyed whole civilizations.

Obama sent Biden to the NAACP convention. Heh, clearly he’s not worried about the black vote.

“Heh, clearly he’s not worried about the black vote.”

    Hmm…

I say, if this little ditty pans out, he should.

ROMNEY NARROWS VP CHOICES; CONDI EMERGES AS FRONTRUNNER

    Money quote:

“It was Condi who received two standing ovations at Romney’s Utah retreat a few weeks ago, and everyone left with her name on their lips. “

One more time, with feeling: Condi.

For many years Condi was my choice to run in ’08, but Professional Establishment Republicans who never visit flyover country “knew better”. I became very disappointed in the obvious lack of fire in her belly as that time drew near, and came to despise the PER’s and think less of her. She’s an intelligent and interesting lady but she would not intrigue me in the VP role. I need to see her fight before I can support her again.

Still despise PER’s, now called EGOP. Egg-head blue dog Dem’s is all they really are. Pols and pundits, both. Trash.

Yep. Personally, I like Allen West. When he talks to a crowd, most connect with him…..even those that don’t agree with him. And then, at the debates scheduled between Obama and Mitt, at the last minute have Romney send in West to fill in for one of the debates….. Better yet Presidential Candidates should debate the opposing vp candidate at least once. That sure would put a spin on things. Obama….having to debate both Mitt and West. Oh what fun!

Juba Doobai! in reply to theduchessofkitty. | July 13, 2012 at 8:59 am

You must remember that Condi is lampooned as Aunt Jemima in the black community. This would be a bad move on Romney’s part. Allen West would be a game changer. Condi? Not so much. There are two choices Romney could make tat would set voters’ hair on fire: Srah Palib. Allen West.

Today Megyn Kelly spoke spoke to a gentleman here in Houston for the NAACP convention, who represents some clerical association. His sentiments were also that Obama is taking the AA vote for granted and losing support. She pushed back and said polling data shows that he has a solid 96%+ support. He said, “Not in our polls, he doesn’t.” He went on to say that a lot of people might just “stay home” on election day. Support for gay marriage seems to particularly rankle.

I can understand why an African-American might say one thing to a Gallup pollster and tell a black pollster something else. There also seems to be some traction with the notion that the gay marriage thing isn’t setting well.

Recall that Romney said yesterday that marriage was traditionally between a man and woman.

By degrees, things change… by degrees.

[…] Legal Insurrection: Obama gives cold shoulder to black news outlets […]

This is the whole problem with identity politics. Once the NAACP becomes an identity and that identity is solid for one candidate or another, it can be ignored. You can bet your sweet bippy, if the NAACP were not solid Obama country, then he would have been there campaigning. The NAACP has no one to blame but itself.

Alan Kellogg | July 12, 2012 at 8:29 pm

What do you expect from a honkey?

His white half is racist. It is sabotaging his black half.

[…] We doubt Rice will be the VP choice by Romney. But Mitt Romney’s campaign must be admired for stepping on the “Romney is racist because he didn’t pander to the NAACP and how dare he go there and give the same speech he gives to every group telling them what he will do as president.” (By the way, where’s Barack? Is he raising money in the ‘hood?) […]

Its too bad members of the NNPA don’t know their guy any better.
1. He does not want “feedback”. Never did, never will.
2. He does not wish to be “educated” by others. No sirree.
3. His record needs no “defense”. What a foolish idea.

Waste of time, that.

The NAA(L)CP says you are a racist for pointing it out…

Questions? Questions? Barack don’t need no stupid Questions!
Just cover his back, guys, and someday he will get around to you, maybe after the big doners, but don’t hold your breath. Only a Black President can publically and privately dis-respect black people and get away with it.

Better headline: Obama gives cold shoulder to America.

Henry Hawkins | July 13, 2012 at 12:58 am

Would it be a hate crime if Obama beat the crap out of himself?

Let’s say it like it is: These people are idiots.

And they’ll remain idiots until enough people stop pandering to their idiocy.

Juba Doobai! | July 13, 2012 at 2:01 am

Glenn Reynolds would say this: “another rube self-identifies.”

Obama doesn’t have to cater to the “black community”. He knows he has them in his back pocket. Who else are they going to vote for?

When you “know” that you have a group 100% you don’t have to respect them. You can insult them all you want. Because at the end of the day, they belong to you…

Black Americans…you did this to yourselves…

In my experience until voters figure it out for themselves they’ll vote for whomever they’re told to vote. Which to my mind fits a little too closely within the parameters of indentureship? Which is merely a polite version of the “s” word? Oh well, as WarEagle82 has pointed out, I am a racist.
