I’ve written before about the latest fad on the American left, accusations of Israeli “pinkwashing.”
Various anti-Israeli left-wing professors and professional activists, including those who hold themselves out as part of the gay rights movement, hold conferences to denounce pinkwashing, the positive publicity generated by Israel because of its record on treatment of gays, which stands alone in the Middle East as one of tolerance.
Yet there is nary a word about the plight of gays in Palestinian Authority controlled areas.
These Invisible Men do not get conferences held for them, because they are an inconvenient truth:
“My purpose was not to show how horrible the Palestinians are toward their people, but rather to show Israel what its responsibility is toward them,” said gay Israeli filmmaker Yariv Mozer last month to an audience at San Francisco’s LGBT Community Center.
Mozer, 34, was in town for the screening of his film “The Invisible Men” at Frameline 36: San Francisco International LGBT Film Festival, where it won the best documentary award.
The film, which Mozer completed with his co-writer and producer Adam Rosner this past March after three years of work, documents the desperate situation of gay Palestinian men who illegally enter Israel and live in the Tel Aviv shadows….
Although there are no accurate statistics as to how many gay Palestinian men are hiding in Israel, Mozer emphasized at the San Francisco event that it was not a matter of a few cases but rather “a phenomenon,” as he put it….
Mozer chose to focus on the plight of these men through the personal stories of three individuals — all of whom sought help from the The Aguda – The National Association of GLBT in Israel. With the organization’s assistance, they received UN refugee status and the chance to start their lives over in a third country.
Yes, that’s right. Being gay in Palestinian controlled areas qualifies one to receive refugee status from the U.N. for protection and resettlement abroad.
There are no campus conferences for these Palestinian refugees.
To the contrary, there is a cover-up. When a group of anti-Israel gay activists visited Palestinian territories recently, “the delegation was told to hide their sexual orientation from their Palestinian hosts” and one of its leaders told an anti-pinkwashing audience upon return that “homophobia is irrelevant in Palestine as ‘it doesn’t take away from the fact that there is an occupation. We can’t judge a country by its attitudes towards homosexuals’.”

To these sick people, it is literally impossible for Israel or Israelis to do anything admirable outside the context of the conflict. The conflict is everything…. Anything that could blunt the demonization of the Jewish state is by definition as evil as the Jewish state itself is.

We can’t judge a country by its attitudes towards homosexuals
(Except the United States of America).
My gentlemanly gay gentile buddy at work had his consciousness raised when I asked him to read a previous post at LI on “Pinkwashing.”
His father was a microbiologist and, when my friend was growing up, his father took jobs in hospitals all over the world, including the Middle East, so, he’s lived in quite a variety of countries. He knows which people in the Middle East would accept him, and which people wouldn’t.
He rolled his eyes and shook his head at the gay activists’ claims of Israeli “pinkwashing.”
(In the same conversation in which we were discussing pinkwashing, he said he hoped the GOP would take the White House this year so the Israelis could count on us in an attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities, something he supports.)
I think I can speak for my buddy about these activists accusing Israel of pinkwashing … and, hopefully not sounding to goy, say, “What a bunch of fags!”
That’s what he’d say.

If international gay rights activists would really like to tweak Israel’s nose, I’d suggest a joint gay-Palestinian solidarity and rights march through Gaza or some other PA city.
Gays and Palestinian supporters, it is time to put your money where your mouth is, or shut up.

This activism seems to be about little more than redistributive change through fraudulent or, at minimum, selective appeals to emotion.
As for the UN, it reveals its true interests in its similarly selective activism. They seem to enjoy the renewable benefits of addressing symptoms rather than confronting causes.
Ah, the homosexuals hate Israel more than they love their fellows. Didn’t Golda Meir say something that could be applicable to that?

I do hope he has a multitude of counselors to support his very important efforts. There is so much ground to cover … one man cannot stand alone. I mean, so far things are awesome, but there will be a ton of retribution for standing up to “The Won”. Just ask John Roberts.

these so-called ‘pinkwash’ nuts are far-left anti-semitic “queer” activists…which, for the un-initiated, means that they are not necessarily gay (in fact, probabaly not), they just identify as “outsiders” and so have glommed onto the gay rights movement as a vehicle by which to publicize their warped, hateful views.
one would be hard-pressed to find many gay folks who share this small, radical group’s opinion of israel’s support for the equality of its gay citizens.
It’s important to remember the hierarchy of identity politics: gender < race < sexuality < Muslim/Arab
Bleading heart lefties can’t admit PA mistreating Palestinian gays without admitting PA mistreats all of Palestinians all of the time much much worse than Israel ever did. And if they admit that, they do not have a cause to “fight” for. So what feel good junkie to do without safe cause to fight for? You don’t expect them to take on really evil regimes, do you.
… not to mention that large part of left wings professors’ “studying” the subject salaries and “research” grant money comes from the Saudi, Qatar, etc, oil money.
