Too bad, Limbaugh ratings not plunging

Too bad, Limbaugh ratings not plunging

I really urge you to take a look at the Twitter hastag #StopRush, it’s one of the more depressing places on the internet; one can’t help but feel sorry for people who spend their day tweeting obsessively the same things over and over again, day after day, when the rest of the world (except for Media Matters and NOW) has moved on.

One piece of news which had the #StopRush folks cheering was a report that Limbaugh’s ratings plunged in April, which gave hope that their tweets were not in vain.

Well, as with many misleading political memes, there was a kernal of truth there.  But only comparing April to March, which was a blockbuster month for Limbaugh.  As reported fairly by The Hollywood Reporter, Reports of Rush Limbaugh Ratings Plunge Exaggerated

Reports circulating online Tuesday indicating a massive drop in Rush Limbaugh’s audience – as much as 40 percent in some markets – might be premature.

The Arbitron data that was released to several reporters shows a decline from March to April — presumably due to Limbaugh’s characterization of law student/activist Sandra Fluke as a “slut” — but only after a surge that was probably caused by the same incident.

Tom Maguire had a similar analysis, and notes how it’s spun:

What’s fun, in an entirely predictable way, is the loss of nuance at Media Matters, which only notes the lead.

The effort to force Limbaugh off the airwaves is not over, but in the key demographic — people who listen to him on the radio — he hasn’t been damaged.

“The effort to force Limbaugh off the airwaves is not over…”

Nope. It isn’t.

Rush has beat them in every possible competitive measure.

He’s effective and articulates Conservative positions.

So… He has to be silenced. It is never enough to simply not listen, and try to counter what he says.

The Collective HAS to compel conformity. Thought is like salt on slugs.

He’s also having a lot of fun while he’s doing it, too. Nothing pisses off liberals and proglodytes more than a happy person.

@ Jim – corollary to your point ….

They really get pissed off when conservatives don’t act embarrassed and ashamed too – – – -failure to acknowledge their ‘moral superiority’ is a big no-no. 🙂

Rush will be here long after Dear Leader and the Wookie have left the White House (and taken the silverware with them)!

What goes up really, really, really high must come down a little, little, little bit.

Works for me. At the end of the day, Rush will still be on the air & these people have that much less time to help Obama’s re-election.

Just to point out: The quote text has [quote]Reports circulating online Tuesday indicating a massive drop in Rush Limbaugh’s audience – as much as 40 percent in some markets – might be premature.

was placed in there twice.

Well in Philly, he’s leaving his long time affiliate WPHT 1210 the Big Talker with a new station TBD (although “WKDN-FM may be the station he ends up on—along with Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity, who’ve been off the air in that market since they were dropped by WPHT over a year ago”).

What these people never get is that their negative attention towards Rush Limbaugh simply raises his ratings. Limbaugh surely understands that and exploits that fact, as does Ann Coulter. (Though she made the terrible mistake of mocking undecided conservative voters during the primary, and has lost much of her cache with them.)

I heard a Lifelock ad yesterday on Rush. I wonder how many of the ‘sponsors’ have returned. Anyone know?

What’s interesting is how the reactionary left isn’t even trying to diguise their fascist motivation any more.
