Liz Cheney eyeing Wyoming political future?

Liz Cheney eyeing Wyoming political future?

Politico reports that Liz Cheney’s increased presence in Wyoming has caused some to wonder about her future political future plans there:

With little fanfare, Cheney, a former State Department official and the eldest daughter of the former vice president, has spoken at six events in different corners of the sprawling state this year. She has been especially busy on the GOP dinner circuit. Cheney has already hit four county Lincoln Day Dinners and keynoted the dinner following the Wyoming GOP convention last month. She also accompanied and appeared on stage with her father when he made his first public appearance following his heart transplant at the state convention.

With the first of her five children heading off to college this fall, Cheney may be laying the groundwork for a future with more time to spare.

While Liz Cheney has remained mum on the prospect of following in her father’s footsteps, others say her actions point otherwise. Politico quotes Shawn Whitman of Wyoming:

She’s running up a lot of asphalt…. This is planting seeds of thought in people’s minds. There’s nobody I know that goes to those events unless they have a position in the party or they’re trying to run for office.

Were Liz to pack her bags and move from her current residence in McLean, Va., to Wyoming she’d be picking one of the more promising states to do it in.

According to the 2012 ALEC-Laffer State Economic Competitiveness Index, Wyoming is first in the country in terms of Economic Performance. In terms of Economic Outlook, it is number four.

I’m sure just the thought of another Cheney in elected office somewhere in the U.S. is going to hurt liberal heads which is cause enough to bring a smile to my lips

Now there’s a Liz you can believe in.

I’ve admired her for quite some time.

She will do fabulously in politics, just like dear old dad.

Love, love, love Lynn Cheney! Bright, articulate, conservative & female. Aggie 95: you’re right. Liberal heads will explode!

sorry…”Liz”…but I love Lynne too.

I hope she runs. There will be nothing left of liberal heads if she wins.

Liz Cheney. ??????

FGS Is this Virginian Upper class ladies gone wild west?

Are you ok with parachuting in a DC Insider lady who has no Wyoming connections ?

Or have the 90 acre grounds of The potomac School just given Liz a taste of the Great Ranch Life where she can still be tax payer flown back to see daddy?

I am disappointed. That is very Rino.

What do you mean no Wyoming connections? Where do you think the family is from?

Where has she lived for 20 years? Northern Virginia -very bucolic silver spoon county. The average ranch income is $50,00 pa & the average rancher is 62 years old.

I don’t think you realise just how much damage Cheney has done to America’s international standing. Would you think it ok for another Bush to go to the WH /Congress?

She stumps for Cheney Snr -she owns his legacy . I don’t begrudge him the heart but there is only so much entitlement a family can wrest from the system.

so much entitlement …..like the kennedy’s ….the clinton’s …..the gore’s ….the jackson’s …. the casey’s ….. and those are just off the top of my head of the liberal family clans who have run for the presidency

Cheney damaged American’s “international standing”?! Excuse me while I pick myself up from the floor. This is the same crap we heard from Kerry and 0bama. Cheney put together a huge international coalition against the Islamists and the Baathists. The only people in whose eyes he damaged America are precisely the people whose good opinion America shouldn’t be pursuing, because they’re fundamentally bad people. If the French don’t like America, then we know we’re doing something right. The people who showed up throughout the ’70s and ’80s at pro-Soviet “anti-nuclear” and “unilateral disarmament” rallies are the same people who don’t like Cheney, and that dislike is a badge of honour.

PS: You could say exactly the same about John Howard. (For all that he’s a gun-grabber, but he was the best that Australia had to offer.)

John Howard was voted out in 07. He even lost his own seat. In a Westminster system that is complete rejection .

Iraq is another topic. I contend that Cheney was hated by allied nationals. We never bother to kill politicians but when he visited he had the most incredible security ever seen in the country’s history. We dd not have enough for him to feel safe & he berought his own (at your expense ).

Putin had 3 motorcycle cops. They had to shut the Sydney Harbour bridge down for 2 hours while he lunched nearby.

In a friendly country that is massive fear.

          “He ‘ being Cheney.

3 cops vs a full arterial bridge closure?

          Who is the enemy?

Who cares where she’s lived for 20 years? She’s from Wyoming, so it makes perfect sense for her to go back there to enter politics, just as it made sense for Liddy Dole to go back to North Carolina.

I think it is a great idea for Liz Cheney to run for public office and I hope she goes straight for the U.S. Senate. She is a remarkable woman who intelligent, accomplished and possesses the ability to eloquently articulate her thoughts and beliefs in prose that is easily understandable. Go Liz!!

Why not? seriously, Wyoming could do a hell of a lot worse.

This past fall we took our son to see Dick Cheney speak in Chicago with Liz when he was on his book tour. Our son was the only young person there (we’re homeschoolers, and I can’t think of anything more educational to listen to Vice President Cheney speak). The Vice President and his daughter made a great duo. When Q&A time came, I submitted a question to the Vice President asking him to give our son a bit of advice. Here, lightly edited, is what he said (thank heavens for voice memo recorders on i-phones):

“Go for it. There is more opportunity out there than there are people willing to get into the arena and be a part of the process. I would define public service very broadly: it might be service in the military, running for office, or it might be any one of a number of different options. I have encouraged my children along those lines and I would certainly encourage others as well. There is no other place in the world where we’ve got as much opportunity as we’ve got right here in the United States, so jump in. I’d say go for it.”

Time for a discussion about Iraq?
