National Brotherhoodie Week

Comments

LOL …CBS posted a vid of Zimmerman being led into the police station ….the liberal screachers came out yelling …LOOK …LOOK ….no blood ….no bruising ….well if you watch the tape you can see at about 42 in a cop come around and look at the back of Zimmermans head for 3 or 4 seconds and that tape also lays to rest another liberal meme that Zimmerman was a hulking 250 5:9 brute ….if you watch the tape you will see that he is thin and would be close to the same weight as Trayvon

“He who would pun would pick a pocket.”

But, heh…!!! Good one!

Ironically, the single group I hate the most are didactic piano players.

C’mon, ya gotta love Lehrer, he was far less didactic than he was satiric – poking fun at just about every sacred cow – left or right – one could find. I was a conservative in the early ’60s: my conservative/libertarian friends and I all found Lehrer hilarious. Even my then-90+ year old, and very unreconstructed, Southern grandmother thought “National Brotherhood Week” and “Take Me Back to Dixie” were very funny.

You’re spot on here… I have had all the Lehrer vinyl since the late 1960’s. He was truly way ahead of his time which I suppose would make him a visionary.

Surprisingly while I thought that I had every single recording of every single song that he performed one escaped being in the collection due to censorship… I don’t remember the piece’s name but is is part of the Lehrer tribute, “Tomfoolery,” that was performed by Trinity Rep in Providence, RI in the 1980’s.

      Love it!

My copy of the original That Was the Year That Was LP from 1966 has it “Lena Horne and Sheriff Clarke are dancing cheek-to-cheek”

Most leftist and racist commentators today, from Obama on down, are too young to remember what the world was really like in the mid-1960s during the civil rights movement.

They are the epigoni of epigoni and beclown themselves daily.

“Lena Horne and Sheriff Clarke are dancing cheek-to-cheek”

That what popped into my mind when I saw the headline. Great minds think alike. ;-p

Have loved Lehrer’s satire ever since I first heard it in the 1960s. Rather interesting how much of it STILL has a current-events applicability to it.

In many other blog comments I’ve posted over the years, I’ve often highlighted the ILliberal INtolerance that is so prevalent by quoting from this very song, how the truly “enlightened” lover of ALL souls simply HATES those who do not think likewise.

So sad, yet revealing, that such irony is frequently totally lost on those who are woefully self-unaware.

Also check out Stan Freberg’s “History of the United States” album, vol. 1.

His “Take An Indian To Lunch Week” song is still quite on the mark regarding “multicultural” relations.

Take an Indian to lunch this week
Show him we’re a regular bunch this week
Show him we’re as liberal as can be
Let him know he’s almost as good as we
Make a feathered friend feel fed this week
Overlook the fact he’s red this week
Let him share our Quaker Oats
‘Cause he’s useful when he votes
    Take an Indian to lunch
Two, four, six, eight, who do we tolerate
    Indians, Indians, rah; rah; rah
Take an Indian to lunch this week
Let him sit right down and munch this week
Let’s give in and all do the brotherhood bit
Just make sure we don’t make a habit of it
Take an Indian to dine this week
Show him we don’t draw the line this week
    We know everyone can’t be
    As American as we
After all, we came over on the Mayflower
    Take an Indian
    Not a wooden Indian
    But a real, live Indian
    To lunch!

And now I’ll spend the rest of the day coming up with new stanzas…”Oh the Uighurs hate Han Chinese and Han Chinese hate the Uighurs, if they all lived in Bermuda, then GITMO wouldn’t be the same! It’s National Brotherhood Week….”

Up next for Holy Week, the Vatican Rag.

On his feet, walking, not particularly injured. Still wondering how he got ‘grass stains’ at the same time as his head was beaten against the ‘sidewalk’

He killed an unarmed man.

If he didn’t wind up in the hospital to treat his injuries, it’s a little difficult to believe (if we believe his story at all) that his life was in danger when he shot an unarmed man.

He will be marked for the rest of his life, regardless of whether or not he faces trial.

And he deserves to be.

Yup. Just checked the Physics textbook I had in college and in Chapter 42 (the answer to everything) it states:

It is currently physically impossible in the known universe for a person’s torso to be in contact with grass while at the same time the person’s head is in contact with an adjacent sidewalk. The grass-cement barrier cannot be bridged from both sides without the use of an immense power source and, if it was crossed, it could cause unknown damage to the space-time continuum.

One is not required to have one’s head enter the gelatinous mass of quivering ganglia stage before taking self-defense measures.

Martin would be alive now if he’d just kept walking home that night.

He’d also be alive right now if Zimmerman had stayed in his truck, or not been carrying a gun when he wasn’t supposed to be armed in his capacity as ‘neighborhood watch’ wannabe.

Coroner said Martin’s hands showed no sign of any bruising or injuries associated with hitting or punching anything.

Zimmerman is lying to cover up his murder of an unarmed boy.

Whether or not there is ever a trial, given the corrupt and incompetent Sanford PD, Zimmerman is a marked man for life, and he bloody well deserves it.

This song is dedicated to Al Sharpton.

They just don’t make them like Dr Lehrer anymore. (Sigh). I still remember the words to the Vatican Rag, The MLF Lullaby and one of my all time favorites, So Long Mom, I’m Off to Drop the Bomb!

In that same vein, Who’s Next is very topical today. Just substitute Iran for Egypt and nothing else needs to change.

I used to play New Math for the kids so they wouldn’t feel too bad about they’re inability to understand the incomprehensible way math was “taught” to them. And …

I could go on and on. Thanks for posting this.

When I arrived for a one year work contract at Diego Garcia back in 1989, I brought along a cassette of all the Lehrer songs in my library. It wasn’t long before I had to provide duplicates for many of the staff out there.

Every few years I pull it out and just spend an evening listening to his timeless satire. I guess that I should get busy and put ’em all on a CD…

I grew up listening to Tom Lehrer and it’s fun to now be able to introduce my kids to some of his stuff–mostly just New Math, L-Y and Silent E for now as they’re so young. Still bummed out that Lehrer went on record saying he was voting for Obama. I expected he’d have been cynical enough to see through the Hope and Change peddler.
