Bye-bye Google Friend Connect

Bye-bye Google Friend Connect

Google has done away with Friend Connect for non-Blogspot blogs, which means that 800+ people who followed me that way no longer can do so.

If you are one of the people who followed that way, you can sign up for the RSS feed.

I also started a Google+ page but I’m not really sure how it works yet, so if you have any suggestions, I’d appreciate it.  You can “follow” the Google+ page by going there or clicking on the badge in the sidebar about 3/4 of the way down.

Are you not bothered, Professor, by Google’s new privacy policy?

Aside from that, I also don’t like using them (as much as it’s possible for an academic!) because I hate the thought of adding to their coffers, dutiful Leftists as they are….

Google makes it hard to find conservative blogs, websites etc. from time to time by replacing search results with “news” headlines. Now, I read that they (youtube, a Google subsidiary) are scrubbing negative comments about the Obama propaganda film narrated by Forrest Gump as well. Like we don’t see it, that is what sends me to the moon!

would not waste time w/ google + as who knows how long that will be around. + its kind of junk.

First, Google really is building a track record of discontinuing services that people have built platforms around, leaving many sites in the lurch. It’s a shame. Back in the day, they used to be committed to open API’s, but they have been gradually closing up over time.

Second, this adds to their their long list of weird, meandering social networking decisions, which include the failed services Orkut, Jaiku, Dodgeball, Wave and Buzz.

Oh yeah, and I hear there’s something called Google Plus, but I’m pretty sure it’s only available in Canada…

Same here on G+. I’ve set one up but unlike FB can’t figure out how to send RSS feed to it.

When I began following you it was through Word Press and it still shows up as my connection when it signs me out for no reason other than to be annoying and makes me sign in again (which thankfully happens rarely)

google reader makes rss feeds easy

I don’t use Google for anything if I can help it.

Google is bad news.

At the very least, it NEEDS to be broken up under our anti-trust laws.

Seriously.

Read up on google.
