Too bad about the Ohio situation. How did that one get away?
Yeah, I saw that wind farm for the first time driving from LA to Tucson last January. It was a pretty still day, and hardly any of the turbines were turning. What a waste of money, and such visual pollution, to boot, not to mention their avian impact. Such ugliness. I’d much rather look at a Columbia River dam, and as an angler, I’m not all that fond of them, either.
Wind farms are a crock. If Exxon-Mobil kills one migrating bird it is a federal crime, but if wind farms kill thousands, as they do, it’s “clean energy” … F’ the birds. Yet, major environmental groups such as NRDC and Defenders of Wildlife support the Jug Eared Messiah and the wind farmers. Big hoopla by Defenders over Congress removing endangered species status for wolves in 3 states, but not a peep about Obama’s Interior Department doing the same thing for the other 47 states … is a hissy fit over Congress acting independently.
Wind farms, they’re gonna’ kill all the penguins. Wait..

I like Perry’s tax plan but the part I like best it that he has some good ideas on entitlement reform. That and the regulatory roll-backs he proposes are huge — bigger than the tax changes themselves.
On the whole, he articulated a good comprehensive strategy that is doable: tax reform, entitlement reform, regulatory sanity, real reductions and limits on gov’t spending. It is better (so far) than anything else I’ve seen.
Perry has a “tax plan?” Who knew … what I’ve heard him say is a dual track “plan” for those earning under $500K per year…in other words, no plan, just another huge layer.
Next, the flat tax consumption tax folks claim they’ll eliminate the IRS? Pardon me if I laugh out loud. Collecting retail consumption taxes is more complicated than income tax, and anyone with experience with both knows that. There’s no withholding under a consumption tax….unless, of course, we’re all obligated to pay up front for an estimated consumption value, then be prepared to prove every dime of it to get any refund or avoid more tax annually. Less IRS? Bwahahahaha.
The wind farms have been in the North Palm Springs area for over 30 years. There is no way he can claim these as “his own”. 1-10 through Whitewater Canyon where the wind blows 24/7 is an ideal place for the farms.
A better place would be DC where the wind not only blows 24/7, but it is hot air.
One thing to keep in mind if you see a wind farm: just because the blades are spinning, that does not mean the turbine is running.
I’ve been told by people who have windmills that it is fairly common to let the blades free-wheel when the gears are disengaged — I suppose because it reduces stress.
So it’s very possible that a busy-looking wind farm is actually doing quite a bit less than it looks.
I always loved the windmills because it meant we were almost at the end of our drive from Santa Monica to Palm Desert, where my parents lived.

I am not sure about her conservative bona fides. She is a decent writer and thinker but she was also an ardent John Kerry supporter in 2004. I don’t think she has ever explained her ‘conversion’ to conservative politics.
There are still conservative writers/thinkers/bloggers who still consider Dave Weigel (the person J Rubin replaced) a decent guy despite the fact he was on the Journolist threads. Some still consider him to be a ‘conservative’.
Ms Rubin is fast becoming the Jay Carney for the Romney campaign.
I don’t want to speak for the Good Prof, but I took him to mean he respected what she did in that instance. That does not necessarily confer respect in a global sense.
Of course, it is possible to respect someone with whom you disagree, even violently.
Personally, I find the Rubin makes sense some of the time — and is roundly vilified for it whenever she does by her readers (and I suspect some of her co-workers).
I don’t really get the Perry thing. She just doesn’t like the guy and like most people in such a case, seems to have no idea why — or does not want to admit it. So she looks for reasons to justify and if they don’t square with reality… well, it’s just a column, right?
I think that McCain is right some of the time. So is Orin Hatch. So was Bush Sr./Jr. But they are all big government establishment RINOs. So is Romney and so is his cheerleader, Rubin.
