The National Bureau of Economic Research has declared that the recession ended, statistically speaking, in June 2009.  As reported by the L.A. Times:

Via The Washington Post, a story about how 200 U.S. factory workers lost their jobs as part of the banning of incandesent light bulbs:

The last major GE factory making ordinary incandescent light bulbs in the United States is closing this month… The remaining 200 workers at the plant here will lose...

The credibility of the Congressional Budget Office suffered a grievous blow during the health care debate when the CBO was forced by Harry Reid to “score” Obamacare using preposterous and plainly contrived assumptions in order to keep the cost estimates below a trillion dollars.

Now, the CBO is damaging itself some more...

Mission accomplished.  We’re just like Europe, at least in terms of Gross Domestic Product per person (emphasis mine):

For quite some time, the US and the leading EU countries have been fairly comparable in terms of output per hour worked. The US has had higher output per person for two reasons: a relatively high...

In a story today at Politico, Harry Reid’s strategy: Winning ugly, Reid makes one of his favorite points in responding to Sharron Angle’s assertions that Reid bears at least some responsibility for the economic decline in Nevada:

Reid contends that if Angle attacks him on the problems now with the economy, she...

Nothing would surprise me anymore.

Some are expecting an “August Surprise” in which Democrats would propose that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac write off hundreds of billions in mortgage debt owed by people who are under water (i.e., they owe more than the house is worth).

Call it the Mother of All Walking...

Allowing people to keep more of what they earn is a horrible giveaway tantamount to welfare for the rich, rendering anyone who would suggest such a thing evil and greedy.

That attitude is the fundamental public policy prescription of the Democratic Party and supportive economists, as expressed in an op-ed in The...

Chalk this one up to the category of jobs destroyed by Obama (emphasis mine):

The Obama administration’s push to accelerate General Motors Co. and Chrysler Group LLC dealership closings, aimed at helping the companies compete, may not have been necessary and added to unemployment, a U.S. watchdog said.

Paul Krugman reserved July 4 for what must be a deliberate deception, Punishing the Jobless, on the issue of extending unemployment benefits, which recently failed to pass the Senate.

Krugman blames Republicans, whom he terms “heartless”:

By the heartless, I mean Republicans who have made the cynical calculation that blocking anything President Obama...

So stifle the economy and scare employers into not hiring that people simply give up looking for jobs, and therefore are not counted in the unemployment rate.

That is what the jobs numbers just released show (emphasis mine):

Employers cut 125,000 jobs last month, the most since last October, the Labor Department said...

We all know how carefully the Obama administration touts the mythical “jobs created or saved” (or is it “saved or created”?).

We also know how many jobs have been lost since the Stimulus Plan passed (well over 2 million, even including expansion of government jobs).

But,

is anyone documenting how many jobs have been...
