Wisconsin Dem Gov candidate to hand out KKK hoods as publicity stunt
Dressing up as Confederate Soldier didn’t get State Rep. Brett Hulsey attention, so now he’s gone White Hood
Democratic candidate for governor Brett Hulsey plans to hand out white Ku Klux Klan hoods to Wisconsin Republicans to highlight what he says are their racist policies.
Hulsey on Thursday came into the state Capitol press room to show off a white hood he says he made with his daughter’s sewing machine using curtain material he purchased for $1.
Hulsey, a state representative from Madison, is running a long-shot campaign for the Democratic nomination against the better funded and more broadly supported candidate Mary Burke.
Hulsey says he will attempt to hand out the KKK hoods to Republicans as they gather Friday for the state party convention in Milwaukee.
State GOP executive director Joe Fadness calls it a “reprehensible, vile stunt” that should outrage everyone.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel further reports:
The Madison representative running for governor got little attention for his plan announced earlier this week to portray Republicans as modern-day secessionists by dressing up as confederate soldiers and parading outside the GOP convention in Milwaukee.
So Hulsey said that he sewed a handful of Ku Klux Klan hoods to take with him in an attempt to mock Republicans. Standing in the rain outside the state Capitol Thursday without an aide or other sign of a viable campaign in sight, Hulsey showed off the ragged hood he had made to a reporter.

He should put one on his head and say he’s channeling former long time Ku Klux Klansman and Democratic Senate Majority Leader Robert Byrd.
On the other hand, it shows how intellectually bankrupt of ideas Democrats are. He can’t talk about how he’d govern differently from Walker, so he pulls childish stunts to embarrass himself. Wisconsin taxpayers must be proud they are paying his salary.
He is recruiting new members for the KKK/democratic party.
I demand that the NBA band Bret Hulsey from all Bucks games for life.

You mean about the KKK being founded as the armed wing of the Democrat Party during Reconstruction? About how they assassinated Republican politicians who dared to support freedmen’s rights? How the membership of the Klan was almost entirely Democrats up until the 1960’s, when it was finally suppressed?
The Klan was suppressed and effectively destroyed by Federal forces during the Republican administration of President Grant. Unfortunately, things went to hell after the very messy Tilden/Hayes election of 1876. Although President Hayes successfully eliminated a great deal of corruption in government, as a condition of his election – an outcome which required breaking a deadlock in the House – he was saddled with a political compromise requiring the removal of Federal troops from the Southern states. This enabled the South to go all Jim Crow, and stay that way for nearly a century. But the Klan remained dead at that time. The Klan we know today is a 1920s revival. Both the original and the revived Klans were Democratic phenomena, and implacable foes of the Republicans.
What’s this guy’s problem? “Branding”? Does he think not enough voters realize he’s a Democrat, so he has to put on the traditional uniform? Next he’ll be dressing up in a chicken suit and claiming to be “Jim Crow”.
These stunts are necessary to those who are waaaaaaaaay behind. Big attention quick is the goal.
The KKK were almost all Democrat. Robert Byrd was a grand wizard.

The Klan lynched Whites usually Jews, Catholics and Republicans. Once the Civil War was over the Confederates mostly joined the Democratic Party?
The majority of the Republican Caucus supported the 1964 Civil Rights Amendment but a majority of the Democratic Caucus opposed the 1964 Civil Rights Amendment.
Conservatives went along with liberals in mandatory school attendance where children are brain-washed by liberal socialist teachers. Most people don’t know these things.
Yes, the Confederacy itself was primarily a Democratic phenomenon. It’s always wise to remember that the Republican party was formed specifically to oppose the pro-slavery policies of the Democrats.
Perhaps someone should pass out Communist fur hats with red stars to the Democrats at their next meeting. That would be far more accurate in portraying who Democrats really are.
Every time I hear Brett Hulsey, I think of the Beatles singing, “Hands across the water.” Having already digressed, It is important to understand how important the Ku Klux Klan has been to the Dems. Back to 2010 and Bill Clinton doing his eulogy for Robert C. “Sheets” Byrd”
There are a lot of people who wrote these eulogies for Senator Byrd in the newspapers, and I read a bunch of them, and they mentioned that he once had a fleeting association with the Klu (sic) Klux Klan and what does that mean. I’ll tell you what it means. He was a country boy from the hills and the hollows of West Virginia. He was trying to get elected, and maybe he did something he shouldn’t have done, and he spent the rest of his life making it up – and that’s what a good person does.
But someone should warn Hulsey that doing his campaigning in Milwaukee as Mr. Interlocutor will not go over well.
At the 1924 Democratic National Convention in NYC, a resolution was presented to disassociate the Democratic Party from the KKK. By a slight majority, the delegates to the national convention voted to keep that association. That convention became known as The Klanbake Convention.
I hope someone grabs the hood and puts it on his head, then kicks the crap out of him on TV. Would be nice to see a Democrat in his KKK hood getting his butt kicked once again…Just like old times!
What the klan really was is irrelevant to this candidate. He’s running in the Democrat primary against Democrat Mary Burke for the nomination to run against Scott Walker for governor. He plays here only to other Wisconsin Democrats who think like this: Republicans are racist. KKKers are racist, therefore Republicans are KKKers. Facts gain no purchase here.
