On Sunday, September 14 [2008] at 2:00 p.m. in Detroit’s riverside Hart Plaza, more than a thousand individuals of every faith are expected to join together for “I Lift Detroit in prayer.” This interfaith ceremony is open to the public and will provide the climax of a three-week prayer vigil for Greater Detroit that is being held by several congregations around the metro Detroit region.

Let’s see — we can pray to lift Detroit, but we can’t pray at the 9-11 memorial in New York. OK, that makes sense.
I am thinking Detroit needs something more along the lines of an exorcism.
There’s a lesson here. I’m reminded of Matt 19:26. Concerned individuals have apparently been praying for Detroit for coming up to three years. Not much has changed in that time. Maybe it’s time for them to stop praying for Detroit and allow the corporate city to suffer the consequences of so many years of bad decisions and citizens closing eyes to corruption. Could it be that the prayers are what have been keeping the city afloat?
I propose that Detroit be the city where Obama puts his library after he leaves office, soon, I hope. The only problem might be that the people there can’t read.
