During the 2012 campaign, Obama mocked Mitt Romney’s statement that Russia was our greatest geopolitical threat.
In classic Obama style, he played a linguistic slight of hand, failing to distinguish “geopolitical” threat from other threats.
Obama’s canned sound bite zinger of the debate was “The 1980s are now calling to ask for their foreign policy back because the Cold War’s been over for 20 years” (h/t John Ekdahl, Jr.):
Romney did respond with the distinction about geopolitical threats, but such nuance was not sound-bite worthy unlike Obama’s dig.

In a rare diplomatic rebuke, President Barack Obama on Wednesday canceled his Moscow summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The decision reflected both U.S. anger over Russia’s harboring of National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden and growing frustration within the Obama administration over what it sees as Moscow’s stubbornness on other key issues, including missile defense and human rights.
Obama will still attend the Group of 20 economic summit in St. Petersburg, Russia, but a top White House official said the president had no plans to hold one-on-one talks with Putin while there. Instead of visiting Putin in Moscow, the president will add a stop in Sweden to his early September travel itinerary.
As to the non-geopolitical threats from al Qaeda, we know how Obama fumbled that one as well.

I saw that debate. I thought Obama’s alleged zinger was puerile. The reaction by the purposefully partisan media was that it was brilliant. I’d rather have been wrong, for the country’s sake.
But the lo-fo voters didn’t get it then and they don’t get it now. I live in a country filled with idiots.
This essay by Obama at Columbia in 1983 (I presume it’s real) shows Obama taking Reagan to task for being intransigent at the Geneva conventions, claiming he is playing into Russia’s hands, and causing alienation with Eastern Europe. He praises the Greens.
It seems Obama forgets who won the cold war, and how. Obama refused support as our ambassador cried for help, and failed to leave a standard of forces strong enough to maintain what we fought for in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Obama the groovy peacenik is just not hip enough to sway the Muslim Brotherhood or Putin, but when it comes to using the IRS or Holder to decimate conservatives … he is General blood and guts Patton.

I always wondered why the republicans didn’t as General Douglas MacArthur to run at the head of the ticket in 1948. But, instead, they went back to Dewey. Dewey, it seems, was a better fit inside the country club.
And, I really don’t think at our election in 2012 that people who chose Obama were doing nothing more than flipping a coin when there were in their voting booths.
Yup. Two different parties. By now it would have been much better if the GOP wasn’t saddled with Boehner and Mitchell. And, way beaucoup much, much better if we didn’t have John Roberts as the chief on the supreme court. With his real lack of constitutional understanding. How do I know this? He set up the FISA court. He selected these doozies of “secret” judges.
And, while we’re at it, seating Alito, when you knew he had approved Pennsylvania’s “Casey” in the whole! Meaning if a married woman wanted an abortion she had to seek her husband’s permission. Sure. Little noted here.
But Ruth Bader Ginsberg noted. She wrote this takes away from women EQUALITY. Probably why the GOP has such a hard time gaining ground with voters who didn’t vote for Romney. And, tend not to vote for republican candidates.
And, it can’t be changed. Because the republicans OWN this label. To say it’s not there wouldn’t erase what is known.

Equality is both parents having an equal say in the outcome of a commonly created pregnancy. Or is logic dead?
The only one telling anything near the truth during the debates was Romney but the dumbed down public bought the talking head’s, (moderator), “guidance.”
I suppose that one could conclude that the truth has little to do with electing a president…
romney was mercilessly mocked by the media during the campaign. we are now learning (if we didn’t already know it) that his assertions were, time and again, correct.
if the republicans hadn’t been so busy calling each other names (rino and worse) and had voted for their candidate instead of sitting the election out pouting and waiting for a “true conservative” (whatever that is) we wouldn’t be sufferring through another four years of obama. instead, would have had a decent and business-oriented man in the oval office working to put us on the better path. so have we learned anything from 2012 or are we going to repeat our mistakes in 2016 and end up having to bear the coronation of queen hillary ?
