Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson to Seek a Second Term

Chicago’s Democrat Mayor Brandon Johnson has announced that he will seek a second term as mayor, and because this is Chicago, he’ll probably get it.

Johnson is boasting that the city has become safer and more affordable on his watch. Like most progressives, he is weirdly obsessed with Gaza and ICE.

CBS News reports:

Mayor Brandon Johnson announces reelection bid

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson addressed his supporters at the DuSable Black History Museum and Education Center Sunday afternoon, officially announcing his bid for a second term.

With just over five months until voters cast ballots, Mayor Johnson cast himself as the progressive in a crowded race for mayor. With his family by his side at the announcement Sunday, he was eager to tout his wins.

“Progress has been made, because this city is better, stronger, safer than what I inherited,” Johnson said at the event.

Earlier in the day, Johnson released a campaign video just over two minutes long on social media, touting his accomplishments as mayor, from affordable housing to the city’s historically low homicide rate. He also mentioned the city’s response to federal agents during the immigration crackdown.

Meanwhile, Johnson emphasized, tourism numbers have surged.

Johnson followed up with another post on social media, saying, “I’m here because I’m the only candidate who’s fighting for working families. If you’re ready for a safer and more affordable Chicago, then now is our time!”

The mayor spoke last weekend on The Angle about his goals for the city.

“What I’m grateful for is that I made a commitment four years ago to build a better, stronger, safer Chicago. The ultimate goal is to build the safest, most affordable big city in America. We’re doing that,” he said.

Politico notes Johnson’s abysmal approval ratings:

The mayor confirmed his plans to POLITICO ahead of the announcement at the DuSable Black History Museum and Education Center on the city’s South Side.He plans to argue that his administration has followed through on policies he pitched when he first ran for office and that there is still unfinished business ahead.

“I made a promise four years ago that I would work every day to build the safest, most affordable big city in America by investing in people, and that’s exactly what we’ve done,” Johnson said, pointing to investments in affordable housing, infrastructure and mental health clinics, along with declining crime rates.

But the mayor also faces high disapproval ratings, with support for a prospective reelection bid at just 13.6 percent, according to a recent University of Chicago Mansueto Institute poll. He’ll also have to take on a field of strong Democratic challengers, including Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias, Rep. Mike Quigley and state Comptroller Susana Mendoza – all of whom tack closer to the ideological center than Johnson.

Professor Jonathan Turley, who hails from Chicago, commented on Twitter/X.

It’s going to be a crowded field.

What I was about to type, you already covered.
Except “Johnson, the DEI loser, for ignorant and dumb racist voters.”

He’s not finished with the job yet.

““I made a promise four years ago that I would work every day to build the safest, most affordable big city in America by investing in people, and that’s exactly what we’ve done”

Note that like Newt’s Contract with America, the only promise in there was to “work” — not to “succeed.”

We’re playing Jeopardy now – the burning down the house version

My question is: Hasn;t this pointy headed DEI selected freak done enough damage?

A madman with an atomic bomb couldn’t destroy Chicago more effectively than the stupid, corrupt, incompetent and evil Johnson and his decades of Dhimmi-crat predecessors have collectively done.

The absolute clueless self-regard of politicians is simply mind-boggling.

He has to run again to retain control of what passes for a criminal justice justice system to avoid indictment.

Also, there is a good chance that in Chicago the votes have already been tabulated and are ready to release.

Chicago under Johnson has plumbed the depths of racial hatred by a sitting black Mayor. By any sane metric he is a total failure. The communist teachers union in Chicago will work and donate to help him get elected. Will the north side come to their collective senses and vote for an alternative? Will the south side blacks abandon him the way he has abandoned them?

“Better to reign in Hell Chicago than serve in Heav’n prison.”

his stock photos would appear more authentic with him in a beanie / cap and an organ grinder off to the side

The people who elected him (legally and not so legally) will do it again. Wait for it.

Every city election recently has had Chicago asking the question, “can we do worse?”

To which the answer has been, “oh, hell YES!”

That will continue in the next election.

Yup. Just remember, fondly, Lori Lightfoot.

It’ll be fun to watch the campaign unfold …at least for those of us not directly impacted by the continued failure of Chicago.

Frankly it may be moot given their BBB GO bind credit rating and $53 billion + unfunded pension liability. For perspective that’s a larger amount of unfunded pension liability than 44 States carry, and their funded ratio for their pension obligation is at 24% v the minimum standard of 80% preferably 90%. Add to this more than 80% of Chicago property tax receipts flow to fund their CURRENT year pension beneficiaries.

Sooner or later Chicago ain’t gonna make it financially and the State, facing its own underfunded pensions and spending problems, won’t be able to bail them out. There’s almost certainly gonna be a receiver appointed to run the finances in any ‘rescue’. IMO the Feds should be proactive and pass legislation that prohibits any financial bailouts to Cities/Counties without a 60% super majority which is probably the best we could get Congress to implement.

Now now good people, let’s be reasonable. It’s not likely that Mayor Pointy Head could go actually get a REAL JOB if he weren’t Mayor, could he?

“I made a promise four years ago that I would work every day to build the safest, most affordable big city in America by investing in people, and that’s exactly what we’ve done”

I didn’t know he was the mayor of Cloud Cuckoo Land.

So with Brandon everything is a WIP?

How long before he gets frustrated and complains that having to be re elected is racist?

Please do. The sooner Chicago becomes Detroit II, the better.
