Hillary Clinton Suggests Rise of Socialism in the Democratic Party is ‘Healthy’

During a recent event, Hillary Clinton commented on the rise of socialism in the Democratic Party and called it ‘healthy.’
One has to assume that this is an attempt to remain relevant, and for Hillary to ingratiate herself with the DSA wing of the party, should they eventually become a force to be reckoned with after the midterms.

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton called the Democratic Party’s current “experiment” amid the rise of democratic socialist candidates “healthy,” drawing swift conservative backlash from critics who accused her of embracing the party’s socialist wing.
“The Democratic Party right now is, I think, going through a kind of experiment, like who can actually respond particularly to young people’s very real concerns about where they are at this point in their lives and what kind of future do they have for themselves? I think that is healthy,” said Clinton.
Clinton, a matriarch of the Democratic Party, defeated democratic socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders in the 2016 presidential primary. Her remarks come as socialist candidates increasingly challenge establishment-backed Democrats in races across the country.
Clinton spoke Monday in conversation with the Hamptons Institute, weighing in on the Democratic Party’s ideological direction as it searches for ways to connect with younger voters while democratic socialist candidates have increasingly notched wins during the primary season.
The moderator asked Clinton where she sees the future of the Democratic Party as it undergoes a “major upheaval between center-left and democratic socialists” during their conversation on diplomacy, national security and global leadership.

The Democrats have a problem that Clinton and most Democrats are trying to address, and it is a huge one: they are losing their working-class base due to their adoption of luxury beliefs and dependence on college-educated elites, and their rising acceptance of socialism is just an extension of their adjustment to that reality. Socialists are typically downwardly mobile elites and elite aspirants, who ought to be in the sweet spot for Democrat Party recruitment, but they are also highly disaffected with the establishment as a whole and committed to destroying it.
So, contra Clinton, the rise of socialism among the young is neither healthy for the country nor for the Democrat Party itself.
Hillary is simply trying to show that she is still devoted to a party that has moved on without her.

You know (I can’t believe I’m saying this) but I came to respect the fact that Bill Clinton had excellent political skills and was an articulate spokesman for his cause.
I did not agree with his politics and he should have left Monica (and dozens of others) alone but his second term triangulation was the stuff of genius. No Democrat today would do such a thing.

I agree with the thinking above, and I actually suspect that the traditional Democratic Party is a dead man walking. The “Big Tent” is just no longer big enough. There will have to be a split between “traditional” Democrats and the new wave into distinct and separate parties. . The question, politically, is on which side of the divide will black voter fall. I think that they will go with the centrists and the Democratic Socialists will form a separate Third Party which will stick around for perhaps 10 years.
Don’t forget the working-class tradition from which Hillary comes.

Well, to be fair, it was three years before he became governor (that’s a hell of a “first real job” for hubby to land, isn’t it?), but I’m sure Hillary sure dug a whacking lot of coal in those three years.
Woops, my mistake. Bill’s first real job was state Attorney General, which he spent two years at first. Meanwhile, in one more year, Hillary had graduated from coal mining to being a full partner at a law firm. You just cannot get more working class than those lovebirds.
