Report: Iran Losing Control of the Strait of Hormuz
After months of maritime standoffs, Iran has reportedly lost control over the Strait of Hormuz. Long seen as Iran’s only “Trump card” in conflict, the regime has lost the ability to block oil tankers from passing through the strategic waterway.
From merely “a few oil tankers” during the height of the Iran war, “since May, the U.S. military has played a crucial role in getting millions of barrels of oil through the strait, helping to keep oil prices from rising further,” The New York Times reported Wednesday.
The media reports lend weight to President Donald Trump’s assertion that the U.S. controls the strait. “The operation stealthily shepherds tankers through the southern part of the strait on routes close to Oman. Iran effectively controls which ships go through its side of the strait, opposite Oman,” the newspaper continued. “Before the war, about 15 million barrels of crude oil a day went through the Strait of Hormuz. In July, tankers using U.S. protected routes transported around five million barrels of oil daily out of the Persian Gulf, according to analysts.”
Tehran lost its grip on the strategic waterway following a coordinated U.S. military operation. “The United States uses ships, helicopters and planes to launch weapons to intercept attacks,” the NYT added. “It has helped over 1,000 ships transit the strait, according to Central Command.”

In his first address as Iran’s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei declared the blockade of the Hormuz Strait as a “lever” and “tool to pressure the enemy”. Khamenei Jr., if he is even alive, appears to have lost that leverage.
Noting the successful naval operation run by the U.S. Army task force based in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, Axios revealed that “Each night, the ships are scheduled to move in one big outbound line during a certain time slot and one big inbound line during a separate time slot.”
“The ships then transit through the southern channel based on U.S. military guidance,” the news outlet added. “The U.S. Air Force has fighter jets that protect against Iranian cruise missiles and drones.”

The United States, patrolling the strait with its navy, is gaining ground – and Iran is losing much of its control of the critical waterway.
More than 80% of liquids transits through the Strait of Hormuz over the past two weeks have taken the Omani route – a UN-authorized shipping channel that Iran vehemently opposes – or have been “dark” transits that likely took the Omani route, according to Kpler, which tracks ships using transponders and satellite data.
Iran, declaring the strait under its control, has attacked dozens of ships that tried to travel the waterway via the north coast of Oman. Despite the risk, most ships have recently chosen to ignore Iran’s demands and cross the strait with the promise of protection from US naval forces.
“It increasingly looks like Iran has at least partially lost control of the strait,” said Homayoun Falakshahi, head of crude oil analysis at Kpler.
That stands in stark contrast to a month ago, when Kpler observed virtually no shipping traffic via the Omani route. The sharp reduction in traffic around Iran’s preferred route has prevented Iran from charging tolls on ship traffic through the strait – as it did in the spring.
As international shipping is being restored in the strait, the U.S. military continues the blockade of Iranian ports, isolating the regime’s economy.

President Trump Threatens Iran with Economic D-Day
With the naval operation succeeding, President Trump unveiled a campaign to isolate Iran’s economy. “Today, I am announcing the most crushing economic operation ever taken against any country!” President Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Any country that allows its financial institutions, businesses, airports, or government entities to provide any type of lifeline to Iran will itself face tremendous economic consequences.”
The measures target Tehran’s “oil smuggling, swap lines, cash transfers, exchange houses, ship registries, front companies,” the president announced.
“This will be an ECONOMIC D-DAY, and we need all of our Allies to stand with the United States of America to isolate, and defeat, the Iran threat,” he warned. “These maniacs are on the ropes, and these HISTORIC MEASURES will cripple them and their ability to project terror worldwide.”

Ironically yesterday the US hit our own milestone as Federal debt surpassed $40 Trillion doubling in the last decade. The Federal Reserve and Treasury are running what amounts to a neo ‘accord’ to attempt yield curve control. Fed buying $40 Billion a month and $340 Billion since it began with the Treasury Dept focused on short dated maturities. The goal is to keep yields artificially lower instead of allowing the free market to perform its function of price discovery b/c the cost of servicing the $40 Trillion debt and the now annual budget deficit of $2 Trillion is ‘pinching’. If interest rates were allowed to rise naturally the crowd out effect would be far larger. The additional problem for Treasury is increased competition for capital allocation with the frankly astounding numbers tossed around to fund AI/data center build out. Toss in SSA/Medicare trust fund running dry in ’32 and the ability to ‘kick the can’ down the road is running out of road. The DC establishment may be forced to finally confront the reality their fiscally irresponsible habits has created, though since they allowed it to fester and grow worse the solutions are gonna be more painful than had they acted earlier.
If this can be told to a crowd of interested listeners by a politician, we would see many heads nodding in approval. They would feel so responsible after hearing this. But. When said pol gets back to DC he had better not do anything to remedy the problem the crowd just approved of. Say it but don’t you dare do anything about it especially if it affects me and mine.
Yep it’s the same old story ‘my’ program is good and must be preserved but those ‘other’ programs are bad and should be cut right alongside ‘don’t tax me, tax that other man behind that tree’.
The silver lining is we are approaching the end of the road and the point at which the ‘can’ can’t be kicked any further. That’s what will eventually force responsible actions to be taken. B/C of the delay and refusal to make minor adjustments/measures when they’d have been less disruptive/painful the cost is gonna be far higher than it would have been and whining/crying is gonna be spectacular to behold.
Don’t stop hammering them President Trump. Don’t settle for anything less than full unconditional surrender.
Strangle them economically, and then hit them hard from above — before the midterms.
Agreed though the implementation may be less severe/complete than we’d wish. Lots of European Nations have ties to Iran. Then add China. I’d be all in favor of severe economic secondary sanctions on Nations choosing to do business with Iran but others may prioritize their access to China for their cheap exports, natural resources and Western production facilities in China. That’s a lot of vested interests howling against a plan to put an embargo on China. For reference the EU does a total of nearly $1Trillion in trade with China while the USA does about half that.
As we see different threats made and new attacks carried out, we have to wonder why it took this long to do. It would have seemed prudent to do all of the things we have eventually done in the beginning. Like a seven headed snake, you don’t kill one head at a time!
