Hamas’s New Gaza Chief Eliminated in Israeli Strike

Hamas’s New Gaza Chief Eliminated in Israeli Strike

IDF: Mohammed Odeh was “among the last remaining senior Hamas military commanders involved in the planning and execution of the October 7th massacre.”

Israel has eliminated Hamas’s newly appointed Gaza-based chief, Mohammed Odeh, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed on Wednesday morning. The IDF strike came just eleven days after the killing of his successor, Izz al-Din al-Haddad, in a similar operation.

Odeh, besides heading Hamas’s terrorist operations in Gaza, was among the planners of the October 7 massacre. The IDF, in a statement, described him as “among the last remaining senior Hamas military commanders involved in the planning and execution of the October 7th massacre.”

The killing of Hamas’s so-called military chief within days of his appointment is a significant intelligence success for the Israeli security services. The strike “followed months of intelligence monitoring and operational tracking,” the IDF disclosed.

The slain terrorist was hiding in a busy neighbourhood, counting on potential civilian casualties to deter Israel. According to Israel’s i24NEWS TV channel, “Odeh was hiding in an apartment building above a crowded market in one of the busiest parts of the neighborhood, where residents were shopping ahead of Eid al-Adha.

The IDF appears to have taken him out in a high-precision strike. As Reuters observed, the Israeli strike “destroyed an upper floor of an apartment building in the Rimal neighbourhood in Gaza City.”

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in a press release, noted that “Odeh served as the head of Hamas’s intelligence staff during the October 7 massacre” and was “responsible for the murder, abduction, and wounding of many Israeli citizens and IDF soldiers.”

He vowed to “pursue anyone who took part in the October 7 massacre,” adding that “Israel will reach them all.”

Even before taking over as Hamas’s Gaza chief, Odeh has been planning and conducting terror attacks against Israeli soldiers and civilians, the IDF revealed:

For years, Odeh served as the head of Hamas’ intelligence headquarters. In this role, he was responsible for planning and coordinating Hamas terrorist infiltration and attack targets during the October 7th massacre in southern Israel.

During the war, Odeh served as Head of Hamas’ intelligence headquarters, where he continued directing intelligence-gathering and operational planning for terror attacks against IDF troops and Israeli civilians.

Hamas’ intelligence headquarters, under Odeh’s command, played a central role in supporting Hamas terrorist operations throughout Gaza.

Sources linked to the Gaza-based terrorist group also confirmed his elimination. “According to Hamas-affiliated media, Odeh was killed” in an Israeli strike, the i24NEWS added.

IDF intensifies operations against Lebanon-based Hezbollah, Palestinian terror groups in the West Bank

The Israeli decapitation strike comes as the IDF intensifies its operations against the Iranian proxy terrorist group Hezbollah in southern Lebanon and other Palestinian-Jihadist groups in the West Bank.

“Hours before the attack, Israel announced it had expanded ground operations in Lebanon, where it has been fighting Iran-allied Hezbollah militants since it launched attacks on Iran with the United States at the end of February,” Reuters reported Wednesday morning. “Israel is also intensifying its military ‌activities in the West Bank.”

According to Israeli media reports, the IDF is preparing to carry out ground operations beyond the Yellow ceasefire line, demarcated as part of the 2024 U.S.-brokered truce. The Jerusalem Post reported Tuesday that Israeli troops are set to “invade deeper into Lebanon” and “begin operating beyond Yellow Line.” The IDF operation seeks to drive out Hezbollah from the strategic areas used for conducting drone attacks against the Israeli troops.

I trust that Israel will not rest until anyone connected to the October 7th atrocities is sent to the deepest center of hell where they belong.

At this point, being elevated to a senior position is tantamount to a death sentence. They may as well fall on their swords.

Yeah the Hamas HR dept is gonna struggle at some point to find competent replacements. True believers? They got plenty to choose from but it takes more than drinking the kool aid to make an effective leader.

Exactly. This is why the people who think this is like playing whack-a-mole because another leader just fills the still-smoking shoes of the previous leader are wrong. As those in senior leadership positions are serially eliminated, the cadre from which their replacements are drawn become of lower quality for (at least) lacking experience and (possibly) for not having the necessary abilities/qualities to assume those positions and conduct themselves credibly. This is detrimental to the organization’s ability to conduct operations, training, and planning. The effectiveness of OJT erodes as more senior leaders are killed and replaced with others who are less and less capable of taking on the empty positions and those being trained are surrounded by others incapable of mentoring them for similarly being ill-equipped for their own positions.

An analogy might be the NFL draft. There’s a reason why having early round picks is desirable. As rounds of picks are made, the quality of the players remaining in the pool becomes lower and lower.

You’d think so, but apparently it doesn’t work like that in practice. First, Hamas run that country. They have all the guns and all the money. They pay above-average salaries and they pay in cash. They’re also the ones who steal the aid shipments and then sell a portion of it to the locals, after keeping the best stuff for themselves. For a poor local looking to eat and have pocket money, Hamas is a viable option.

There’s also the whole “we’ll pay your family if you successfully commit a suicide bombing” practice that they have going on.

Think of Hamas like a mafia family from older movies. They control the neighborhoods and while the threat of spending prison time is significant, it may still be the best option available.

@ semper why— The issue is not new foot soldiers, it is people to fill leadership positions. You can’t just promote any captain to major and expect him to successfully command a battalion. Every higher command candidate needs “seasoning”, time in a subordinate staff assignment to see how it is done from someone who can do it.

This last guy was 11 days in the job when he got whacked; his successor will enter the job with 11 days of watching and learning from him… don’t expect much. This guy wasn’t even good at hiding from Mossad. The next one will be worse.

Regarding “The IDF strike came just eleven days after the killing of his successor,”: That seems quite unlikely. I suspect that the author meant “predecessor”.
