Mathematicians Want Conference Moved Out of U.S. Due to Trump’s Supposed ‘Hatred of Immigrants’

“The US supreme court recently ruled that government agents can stop and question civilians about their immigration status based solely on racial appearance or what language they speak.”

Trump Derangement Syndrome in higher education is so tiresome.

The College Fix reports:

Mathematicians want conference moved due to Trump’s ‘unbridled hatred of immigrants’

An upcoming international math conference should be moved outside of the United States of America due to Trump’s “unbridled hatred of immigrants” and because the “country [is] on the verge of martial law,” professors say.

petition, which reportedly has more than 2,300 signatures from more than 75 countries, demands the International Congress of Mathematicians relocate its planned July conference in Philadelphia. The petition says there is precedent for the action, since the 2022 conference in Russia was relocated due to the war.

The petition paints a dire picture of what the United States supposedly looks like now and where it is headed.

The heavily hyperlinked statement reads in part:

The US supreme court recently ruled that government agents can stop and question civilians about their immigration status based solely on racial appearance or what language they speak. There are numerous cases all around the country of American citizens being caught up in this dragnet, and released only after experiencing terrible brutality and extended detainment. The highly publicized murders of US citizens by border patrol and ICE agents on the streets of Minneapolis and Los Angeles have not stopped or even slowed the brutality.

Foreign scholars could be harassed by Immigration and Customs Agents as well, the petition suggests.

“And even if mathematicians from the 75 countries for which the current US administration has suspended visa processing are able to obtain conference visas, how can we expect such mathematicians to safely visit Philadelphia and engage fruitfully in the conference without fear of harm and unlawful detention,” the signers asked. “The [International Mathematical Union] is irresponsible in its promotion of such risky behavior amongst the world’s mathematicians, especially when over 40 countries have issued travel warnings to their citizens when traveling to and from the US.”

The mathematicians continue on to cite grievances they have, including “aiding and abetting the ongoing genocide in Palestine, including pushing for the ethnic cleansing of Gaza to make room for luxury real estate.”

Writing in bold, the professors declare: “For the sake of the safety of our community and in the name of genuine unity amongst mathematical scientists across the globe, we the undersigned commit not to participate in the ICM if it is to be held in the United States.

Some very smart people can be so very stupid.

1+1= some very stupid leftists

Did anyone mention the fact that the two instigators shot by ICE were natural born white Americans. And it was their voluntary actions that got them their just rewards. Maybe someone in their ranks with a passing familiarity with statistics should point out how stupid the statement and petition are in the real world.

“The US supreme court recently ruled that government agents can stop and question civilians about their immigration status based solely on racial appearance or what language they speak.”

If this were true, the fedguv would not still be forcing an “overseer” onto the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Department for doing EXACTLY that under Joe Arpaio (who has been out of office for over a decade now).

The only real boycott I know of came from American Mathematics Assoc pulling their conference out of Phoenix because of that law, SB 1070.

I suggest the conference be moved to some place in Africa where it likely has never been held before. Perhaps Nigeria.

Who knew that members of Tren de Aragua would be anxious to hear the latest research into such topics as computational fluid dynamics or geometric group theory.

DId it occur to these bozos that the likelihood of ICE or CBP looking for illegal immigrant criminals attending a once every four year International Congress of Mathematics is about the same as the sun rising in the west.

This is the work of political ideologues who turn every aspect of their lives into opportunities to preach their politics. They are a cancer on the normal functioning of any decent country.

The worst part of it is that what they are saying are lies. They have a right to their opinions but we also have the right to ignore them.

The Law of Redistributional Neural Equity states that excessive brain function in one area must be compensated by reductions of activity in other areas. Thus the ridiculous remonstrations of those attending the Idiot Savant Convention demonstrate economy of intellect.

The good mathematics professors, while perhaps expert at various forms of mathematics, are terribly deficient in common sense and knowledge of civic functions. First conferences of this type book their venue years in advance. To attempt to get out of their current contract will be costly and to find a suitable alternate venue will be problematic. Second hosting this conference domestically makes it financially attractive to many American students, particularly those from local institutions. This petition, if successful, will deprive many American students the opportunity to meet key figures in their chosen profession. Finally, the professors do not seem to have bothered reading the decision which was for a stay of a district court. In so doing the SC noted issues with the case including the lack of standing as well as the differences between “Reasonable Suspicion” and “Probable Cause”. I would suggest the mathematicians stay with their day job.
