Chicago Parents Furious Over City Allowing Kids to Skip School for May Day Rally
“We are here to demand an end to the political indoctrination of our children at the hands of CTU and CPS.”
Chicago parents have threatened to sue after Chicago Public Schools (CPS and the Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) cut a deal to allow teachers and students to skip school on May 1 to join a May Day Rally.
Mayor Brandon Johnson pushed for all residents “to use May 1 as an opportunity to elevate the consciousness of our civic responsibility.”
Teacher and CTU board member Sylvia Pittman insisted CTU has “developed curriculum for our students all the way from pre-K through high school.”
Well, the answers have not satisfied the parents:
“They did this without the consent or the input of the parents. This is not only wrong, it is irresponsible or perhaps illegal,” CPS parent Judy Velez said.

“We are here to demand an end to the political indoctrination of our children at the hands of CTU and CPS,” Velez said.
The parents hired attorney Bill Quinlan to demand more clarity on the decision.
“Children can make the choice with their parents to take an absence for civic action,” said Quinlan. “Again, those are choices that parents make with respect to their children, and I don’t think anyone’s disputing that. The question is when those choices get made for them, right? And what choice is it?”
CTU attempted to clarify its motivations, saying “May 1 is a full day of instruction,” but “School participation in any civic engagement activities is at the discretion of the school principal and individual student or staff participation is entirely voluntary.”
Illinois allows students in grades 6-12 “to attend a civic engagement event” and receive an excused absence.
The students must have parental permission.

It is much worse than that. CPS agreed to fund buses for schools that want to have field trips to the protest (civic engagement). CTU is organizing students as lobbyists to advance its agenda.
You vote for democrats. Democrats are communists/socialists. Democrats unconditionally support labor unions. Labor unions are communist/socialists. What do you expect???
BTW: May is International Workers Day. It has been a focal point for demonstrations by various socialist, communist and anarchist groups. It is one of the most important holidays in communist countries such as China, Vietnam, Cuba, Laos, North Korea, and the former Soviet Union countries.
I’ll repeat myself – what did you expect??
Hey, commies gonna commie.
You beat me to the exact same post.
All they need now is a prade and they can goose step their way down lakeshore drive
If you do not show up at the event, as you known you must, will you be shunned?
TBH, it’s not like the kids aren’t getting indoctrination the other 175 days of the school year. And they’re not receiving a proper education on those days either.
Where have you parents been? All May Day needs is a few Hammer & Sickle flags. James Carville probably has a warehouse full.
If parents haven’t figured the government school scam by now, they deserve what they get.
It helps to remember that teachers’ unions are one of the DNC’s largest constituencies, along with all other public employee unions.
Their “civic responsibility“ is to educate children in American subjects, not indoctrinate them. Chicago parents have the right to be outraged; perhaps someday, they will follow through on that.
Someone should arrange a “Kids — Learn About The Second Amendment” day event.
Maybe hand out guns and direct them to the nearest suburbs where the soccer moms hand out.
Don’t show up to work at school?
Don’t get paid for that day.
No acceptance of “doctor’s” notes. No excused absences at all.
Wonder what “May Day” will be like when taxpayers aren’t funding it.
I can’t imagine anything better for the education of these students than not attending Chicago public schools!
And why wouldn’t a Culture Marxist Seminaries want their puplels go to a Marxist celebration?
