Trump, Putin Ally Orbán Ousted in Hungary
“Orbán…has been described by the pro-EU press as Russian President Vladimir Putin’s closest ally inside the European Union.”
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, a close ally of Vladimir Putin and backed by Donald Trump, has conceded defeat to opposition challenger Péter Magyar after early returns showed his party trailing badly.
Orbán congratulated Magyar as results came in.
With 53.45% of votes counted, projections showed Magyar’s Tisza party winning 136 seats in Hungary’s 199-member parliament. Orbán’s Fidesz party was projected to win 56 seats. If those numbers hold, the result would end 16 years of Orbán’s rule.
Turnout reached 77.8%, up from the previous election, with long lines reported at polling stations in Budapest.
“We are optimistic,” Magyar said as early results came in.
Orbán closed the campaign focused on the war in Ukraine and Hungary’s role in it, warning voters against deeper involvement.
“We don’t give our children, we don’t give our weapons and we don’t give our money,” he told supporters.
Magyar urged voters to push back against what he described as sustained pressure from the current government.
“Do not give in to pressure and blackmail,” he said.
The fallout is already visible outside Hungary. U.S. Vice President JD Vance traveled to Budapest to campaign for Orbán in the final days. Orbán has maintained close ties with Moscow and has been described by the pro-EU press as Russian President Vladimir Putin’s closest ally inside the European Union.
Orbán blocked a 90 billion euro aid package for Ukraine, a move that angered other European governments.
“This was the last straw that broke the camel’s back,” one EU diplomat said.
Officials across Europe have grown frustrated with Hungary’s use of its veto on Ukraine and sanctions policy.
At home, rising costs and corruption concerns weakened support for Orbán and opened space for Magyar, a former Fidesz insider who drew support from both opposition voters and disaffected conservatives.
Final results were not yet certified at the time of publication, but the margin and Orbán’s concession pointed in the same direction. After 16 years in power, Hungarian voters shut it down.

IF the incoming PM turns in to the Hungarian version of Sanchez this will be very bad for the country.
Meanwhile the EU and their lapdogs on the media will be dining out in this result for a very long time!
The international Establishment has conducted a propaganda campaign against Orban since he won office. Anyone who is skeptical about declaring open war with Russia is tagged as a “Putin ally”. They don’t acknowledge that replacing a regime of a nation in possession of ICBMs requires finesse.
Why would you suppose he will do that? What indication has he given of such an inclination?
Educate yourself sweetie
As far as I can tell, Magyar appears to be approximately as conservative as Orban. No major differences on most policy matters.
He’s a fan of EU policies. That only leads in one direction.
He’s not “a fan of EU policies”. His immigration policies are almost indistinguishable from Orban’s.
He does intend to comply with Hungary’s legal obligations to the EU, and stop breaking the law, and thus get back the money that the EU has been withholding from Hungary as a penalty for its lawbreaking.
We will no doubt see lots of Atlanticists saying the Orban loss is a big blow to the Trump model of nationalist populism. Well, no, not really. What it is, is a loss to the idea that you can govern as a populist with three years of no economic growth, and with indifference to insiders connected to you getting rich off of cronyism. I remind you: Fidesz is no more or no less corrupt than it ever was, but the economy had been doing well in past Orban terms. When all boats cease to rise, all eyes turn to the yachts.

So, Hungary chooses national suicide, apparently. Cancerous and suicidal Islamification can’t be far behind, following in the wake of the rest of dhimmified Europe.
It’s hard to believe they would chose that after seeing what it has done to most of Europe
They are destroying themselves
Yes; it’s unfathomable, irrational and galling.
What on earth are you talking about? How is electing a conservative government suicidal? What makes you think Magyar has any interest in “Islamification”? Do you have any idea of his policies, or are you just guessing at random?
A good indicator that this is a bad thing is you advocating it, Milhouse.
As an indirect Mamdani supporter, your word must always be taken with trepidation.
Because you always seem to support, sorrowfully, with the greatest reluctance, the most horrific things.
Probably because you’re here to demoralize.
And the filthy disgusting liar is heard from again.
“Indirect Mamdani supporter”?! That would be you, and anyone who refused to vote for the only viable alternative, the Granny Killer.
Milhouse, get stuffed. Really — go jump off a cliff.
You’re a narcissistic clown.
The gadfly act is exceedingly tiresome. As is your know-it-all pedantry.
You’re incapable of expressing disagreement with anyone on this site, without sounding like an obnoxious and self-reverential asshole.
I’m positing that this election portends bad things for Hungary. And, the “conservative” label in a politician such as Magyar, is utterly meaningless. You’re incredibly naive, if you think that political affiliation and labels, alone, guarantee political outcomes.
Orban was the clear choice for an anti-immigration, anti-Islamification agenda. He has a track record. Magyar doesn’t — irrespective of his political affiliation. He has not addressed these issues with the clarity that Orban has.
Why don’t you go rid the world of your miserable existence — or at least this blog. You nasty person.
Magyar is just as conservative as Orban. He’s Orban without the corruption — or at least that’s the perception he’s managed to create, for a while.
So bad. This is so bad.
Why is it bad? What do you expect Magyar to do that is so terrible, and why do you expect that?
The “cancer” has metastasized. Stage 4…. no and I mean NO hope for them. Time for an orderly withdrawal from Eurabia. Out of NATO, remove nuke warheads from British submarine missiles and promise that any Iranian nuke hit on USA will result in multiple hits on Eurabia. We cannot save Europe from its third and successful suicide. We fought to keep the invaders out, now Europe fights to keep the invaders in.
The rank stupidity and fecklessness of dhimmified Europe is difficult to comprehend.
The U.S. and allied nations sacrificed huge amounts of blood and treasure to save Europe from German National Socialism and Soviet Communism, in the 20th century. And, instead of evincing gratitude and pursuing military self-sufficiency, Europe squanders its U.S.-paid peace dividend on profligate and unsustainable social welfare programs, while simultaneously destroying its industries by imposing idiotic and impoverishing “green” energy/”climate change” diktats, and, importing tens of millions of goose-stepping, belligerent, subversive, restive, Jew-hating and Christian-hating Islamofascists/Muslim supremacists. A trifecta of stupidity that can scarcely be believed.
The top question: will the USA spill blood and treasure for Europe AGAIN?
Will it benefit us?
Not a good day anywhere for freedom
For the average and stupid free shit always wins. Later the price for the free shit becomes unbearable.
Do you think the elections were secure, or was there tampering going on?
I can’t imagine people would really vote for the destruction of their country and culture.
“I can’t imagine people would really vote for the destruction of their country and culture.”
Really? I mean really???
I give you the rest of Europe, Canada, half the US, half of Israel, South Africa, Australia, NZ and I’m sure there are plenty of countries at self-risk I didn’t list.
The people who will conquer them have a lower IQ but exist at a level below the Thatcher Threshold. They don’t care about other peoples’ money running out….they only care about Islam winning. For them, the fun is only beginning.
We would all love to believe most people are sane but they’re not.
Nearly half the electorate voted for Kamalatoe (modulo fraud of course).
“Let us stop talking falsely now, the hour us getting late”
First of all, yes, there are many people who do vote for the destruction of their country and culture. Just look at how half of Israel votes, or about half of America.
But second, which of Magyar’s policies do you think represent the destruction of Hungary and Hungarian culture? Magyar seems to be a conservative, a former member of FIdesz who left alleging corruption and power-grabbing, and advocating term limits. He doesn’t seem to have many major policy differences with the current government.
What was someone saying just yesterday on the Mahmoud Khalil article, about how dare foreigners get involved in local politics?!
Clearly, the real winner is ISLAM!
Europe is doomed.
History repeats itself.
It will be another Lebanon. (Christian turned Islam.)
kind of like when CA residents move to Texas and Florida
turning bluer is the goal
