Yes, the ‘DIGNIDAD Act’ Grants Amnesty; Why Do 20 GOP Lawmakers Support It?
“The Dignity Act is mass amnesty and would constitute a terrible betrayal of our voters.”
President Donald Trump’s pledge to deport millions of illegal aliens living in the U.S. was a central pillar of his 2024 campaign. Supporters argued that providing essential services to non-citizens placed a significant strain on state and municipal budgets, contributing to rising crime rates and diverting resources away from the education of American students. It was time to put America first.
Why then would at least 20 GOP lawmakers back a bill that grants conditional amnesty to those who have broken U.S. law?
The DIGNIDAD (Dignity) Act of 2025 (H.R. 4393) is being touted by the National Immigration Forum as a bipartisan immigration reform bill “aiming to secure the border, reform the asylum system, and provide a 7-year legal status program for undocumented immigrants.”
Supporters insist the legislation does not constitute amnesty or confer citizenship. Rather, it offers work authorization and a path to legal residency for millions of illegals who have been living here illegally the longest.
Upon introducing the measure in November, Florida Republican Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar, a co-sponsor of the bill, claimed, “The Dignity Act brings an urgently needed solution to the United States’ broken immigration system. It secures our borders, restores law and order, and provides a responsible, earned process for millions of hard-working people who have lived here for years and contributed to our country. The Dignity Act lowers costs for Americans, strengthens our workforce, and gives hard-working men and women a path forward. It is not citizenship. It is not amnesty. It is dignity.”
As supporters move to advance the DIGNIDAD Act in the House, Rep. Brandon Gill (R-TX) offered this blunt assessment on X: “The Dignity Act is mass amnesty and would constitute a terrible betrayal of our voters.”
Salazar immediately pounced on Gill, demanding that he “READ. THE. BILL. BEFORE. YOU. OPEN. YOUR. MOUTH.” She went on to say Gill’s remark was “a deliberate distortion and it exposes just how little you know about the bill.”
She argued:
This is enforcement first: zero tolerance for criminals, permanent border security, and hard, earned requirements to step forward and face the law, so American workers are protected, not undercut. Amnesty is the chaos you’ve defended, millions in the shadows, no control, no accountability, and a system that stopped working a long time ago. No shortcuts. No giveaways. No blanket forgiveness. That’s law and order. That’s DIGNITY.
It’s also amnesty!
Readers were quick to “add context” to Salazar’s attempt to deny the obvious truth about the bill’s objective. They wrote: “It grants amnesty: permanent residency (Dream Act), deferred action & legal status (Dignity Program), and halts deportations. Wipes 3/10 year bans, creates an inspected and admitted loophole, grants AG power to terminate deportation for family ‘hardship.'”
READ. THE. BILL. BEFORE. YOU. OPEN. YOUR. MOUTH.
Calling the DIGNITY Act “amnesty” isn’t just wrong. It’s a deliberate distortion and it exposes just how little you know about the bill.

Several readers called Salazar’s bluff and read the entire 261-page bill. Among them was conservative political analyst — and former nuclear scientist — Matt Van Swol. Citing specific passages in the text, he concluded that it does indeed “support mass amnesty.” He posted the results of his analysis in the X post below.
Among Van Swol’s findings:
The Dream Act:
[The bill grants] “conditional lawful permanent resident status to ILLEGAL ALIENS who:
- Have been continuously present in the U.S. since January 1, 2021
- Entered before age 18
- Meet education, employment, or military service requirements
- Pass criminal background checks
…
DACA recipients get fast-tracked to conditional green card status … which is literally mass amnesty.
…
BUT THE BILL GOES EVEN FURTHER!!!
On pages 204-217, you present the Dignity Program:
This is a separate track for illegal aliens who don’t qualify for the Dream Act.
If you are an illegal aliens who:
- Was continuously present since December 31, 2020
- Pay a $1,000 upfront “restitution” fee
- Submit biometrics, pass a background check
- No felony convictions
You get work authorization + travel authorization + deferred removal for 7 years
After completing the 7-year program (paying $7,000 total in fees, staying employed, obeying laws, paying back taxes): We grant you:
- “Dignity Status” which is essentially a lawful nonimmigrant status, which is renewable any number of times
- Work and travel authorization
The most powerful part of Van Swol’s analysis was his conclusions:
But the most important bit that you’re hiding here is that it totally suspends deportation of anyone who qualifies for this. This would effective end ALL MASS DEPORTATIONS in the United States immediately.
You are a liar, you are a fraud, everything you stand for is fake… did YOU read your own bill? Because I just did, and you are a damned LIAR!!!!!
So, I did exactly what you asked and I sat down and read ALL 261 pages of your bill.
It does support mass amnesty and I’ll tell you exactly where:
Pages 162-170… The Dream Act:
You grant conditional lawful permanent resident status to ILLEGAL ALIENS who:

PJ Media’s Stephen Kruiser addressed the DIGNIDAD Act in a Thursday morning post. He also called Salazar a liar. According to Kruiser:
[The bill] basically grants permanent resident status to any illegal alien who can manage to hang around for a while without getting deported. That’s right, sports fans, the longer they’re successful at breaking the law, the greater the reward.
ICE and Border Patrol agents have been facing angry mobs and death threats for trying to do their jobs and Republicans are linking arms with the people who have been ginning up those mobs. It’s a slap in the face to the agents, President Trump, and the law-abiding citizens of the United States. In what way, shape, or form does a Republican congresswoman from Florida think that this represents her constituents?
He called on the 20 “idiot, squish” Republicans who support this legislation to “read the room.”
Your weakness is pathetic, and your complicity in this amnesty scheme is decidedly un-American. May you all be ushered back into the private sector as quickly as possible.
Hear, hear!
Ultimately, the DIGNIDAD Act appears to represent a sharp departure from the tough enforcement stance many voters were promised, effectively blurring the line between reform and amnesty. Despite its branding, the bill would grant legal protections and halt deportations for millions, raising serious questions about whether mass deportation was ever a realistic or genuine objective.
This isn’t a compromise — it’s a capitulation that risks rewarding unlawful entry while undermining both immigration law and the trust of those who expected stricter enforcement.

It’s the GOPe. Chamber of Commerce Republicans. They are idiots doing things for the wrong reasons and they have *never* been on our side.
Yep the globalist, corporatist, neocon faction remains bitterly opposed to the well being of the broad middle class (70% in between the top 15% and bottom 15%). They despise and fear the emergent center/right populism.
Y’all beat me to it. That’s my rant.
I also add they are disloyal putz’s.
You can and should be supporting primary challenges for each and every one of these GOPe Congresscritters.
Fortunately, none are from my state. If they were, I would most certainly primary them.
Why do we bother to vote for “Republicans” when this is the outcome? The majority of the party is devoid of anything resembling a spine!
We did this in the 80s and were told we would never be here again. While here we are.
Right. Before we vote on this, Democrats should complete the commitment they made to Reagan.
The fact that the bill’s name is in Spanish, with its English translation provided after, in parentheses, tells you right off the bat that this is one wretched, smelly dog turd of a bill.
https://www.congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/house-bill/4393
Salazar: “It’s not amnesty! It has all the things in common with amnesty, but we gave it a brand new name!”
“Supporters insist the legislation does not constitute amnesty or confer citizenship.“
RINO poop by any other name stinks as much.
No, no Hell no. No way is this acceptable. Pay $1K and stay? Nope. Where’s the requirements to elocute? Where is the requirement to list every employer so those employers who unlawfully hired illegal aliens can be prosecuted, fined, jailed? Where’s the civil asset forfeiture? Where’s the provisions removing the Courts of any jurisdiction at all over any provisions of immigration? Where’s the draconian enforcement provisions and increased funding for ICE to go any/everywhere in any govt building that receives Federal funding to find, detain, drag out by their hair any illegal alien they locate bring them to a temp holding facility and immediately deport them to the Democratic Republic of Congo or CECOT (Executive Branch discretion on which)? Where’s the compensation paid from aliens and their employers who bilked other lawful workers out of increased wages or unfairly under bid their law abiding competitors and hurt those businesses and their lawful workers? Where is the claw back of every $ received or expended whether direct or indirect in any Federal program used by illegal aliens?
No. Not acceptable.
Under the bill, “Maryland Man” Kilmar Abrego Garcia would qualify for amnesty because he has not been convicted yet.

Why Do 20 GOP Lawmakers Support It?
Primarily because they are not rick-ribbed conservatives, but merely Republicans. They are either afraid of a constituency (read: donors) that isn’t really conservative, or of upsetting some people in power somewhere.
Doesn’t the name of the bill say it all: DIGNIDAD Act. Because illegals must be given didnidad and dignidad can only be defined as amnesty. Nonsense worthy of a Democrat and 21 RINOS.
We can certainly treat them with dignity as we send them back where they belong, in their home country
I sense this will get a veto from the President.
Everyone of these Republicans that voted for this bill need to be primaried out or voted out. They are not really true Republicans. Reagan approved Amnesty once and since that time we have had large amounts of illegal aliens so doing another Amnesty Bill will not work.
While I agree with your statement, the reason these Rinos are voting for this bill is because they know they cannot be voted out. They are also the Rinos that are against the SAVE Act (I wonder why?).
I could give a rat’s hindquarters about the “dignity” of illegal aliens. They can exercise a little dignity and get the hell out, now.
of course its amnesty
but we are trapped
we know we arent going to win this,,yet another battle
so we are willing to give in to fight another more important battle
which we will then,,again,,given into
america has lost its ball(s)
the compass points straight left no matter which way we turn
even with the best potus everrr we still had to shut down during Demvid19
trump was able,,,thank god,, to change course slightly,, for a while
dems have gone right back to counting votes the way they want
amnesty or not
blk matriarchy in charge
full steam ahead on revenge
There is your next list of primary targets. Every last one of them needs to be removed.
“Why then would at least 20 GOP lawmakers back a bill that grants conditional amnesty to those who have broken U.S. law?”
Could it be because we have reached the point where what we considered to be conventional politics in modern times are no longer capable of correcting the country’s problems?
Subotai Bahadur
Because they’re the same crew of RINOs that support ANYTHING Democrats want to do.
Every single time they crow about ‘bipartisanship’, its from this list of RINOs.
Look at the list and then go back and look at any ‘bipartisan’ Democrat bill passed with 10-15 Republicans.
You’ll see the same ones.
Sometimes I wonder if we have any real Republicans in Congress, or are they all just democrats in disguise?
If I thought our government (or any government) were capable of vetting millions of illegal aliens to successfully determine which were the (except for breaking the immigration laws) fine, upstanding, hard working, self sufficient, godly ones, and was able to guarantee that the beneficiaries of this legislation would not be able to vote in federal, state, and local elections, I would be in favor of it. Their situation could plausibly be described as as victims of wicked enticement (by lawless Democrats and their NGOs). And people thus vetted would be better than a significant fraction of our current population.
But if I thought that were possible, I would be a fool. No government is capable of doing such things.
The twenty are not Republicans. They are Democrats masquerading as Republicans. And like all Democrats, they are doing their level best to foment a civil war in the United States.
The really galling part is that many of these same GoP Reps were part of the whining coalition to demand rollback of the SALT provisions in the tax code to dramatically increase the amount of State/Local taxes that can be deducted from Federal income taxes.
They succeeded in getting more Federal taxpayer subsidies to support their insane State/Local tax rates, reducing the growing political/economic pressure on the d/prog State/Local leaders in deep blue States to rein in their policies or pay an electoral price. Having saved their d/prog buddies over Cray Cray taxation levels now they want the Federal taxpayers to step in and subsidize an Amnesty of illegal aliens to benefit their globalist, corporatist allies and fellow travellers at the expense of the law abiding.
These Reps should be marked for removal from political office, black balled to the point that any other public figure, PAC or Lobby that hands them campaign funds or an endorsement is likewise marked for political oblivion as.well as any other politician who takes also takes their $ or endorsement. IOW shun and ostracize them, drive them out of public life, make them pariahs as well as anyone who refuses to shun them.
Johnson and Thune haven’t said anything about this amnesty bill being DOA unless I missed it. The GOPe never fails to screw their voters. I loathe them just as much as the communists.
How the heck do they get “Dignidad” out of the misnamed Dignity Act? Is it Spanish as noted above? Our laws do NOT need be bilingual.
““The Dignity Act brings an urgently needed solution to the United States’ broken immigration system. It secures our borders, restores law and order, and provides a responsible, earned process for millions of hard-working people who have lived here for years and contributed to our country.”
PRESIDENT Trump took care of the first two, but the last tenet is backdoor amnesty. Or is it servant’s entry amnesty for the Dem masters?
If we must, make it only apply to illegals that have been here for 20 years already, with a cosigning American sponsor who will assume responsibility for them, in writing, thus eliminating all the Biden/Harris Border surge invaders.
PRES. Trump and the American people will not be bypassed.
“How the heck do they get “Dignidad” out of the misnamed Dignity Act?”
Maryland Dad, Florida Dad, Colorado Dad, Massachusetts Dad, Digni Dad.
I have a dream….
Deport all illegal aliens; slap heavy fines and jail time on anyone who hires or assists illegal aliens; outlaw birthright citizenship; purge RINOs from the GOP….
I do appreciate them letting us know exactly who the top targets are to primary out.
Some of these same clowns are responsible for getting Blue States their SALT deductions back – they wouldn’t vote for the “big beautiful bill” without them.
Call it what you like but, it still smells like amnesty to me,
The new thing: Writing bills using Spanish terminology. That’s a hole in the dyke (no pun intended).
Will we have to use “Negro’s Law Dictionary” now (pun intended)?
Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar, “READ. THE. BILL. BEFORE. YOU. OPEN. YOUR. MOUTH.” Apparently she didn’t read the BS, she introduced, before she opened her mouth. Engage your brain Maria, if you have one.
