Activists Protest After Medical Center at NYU Halts Transgender Care for Minors

It doesn’t seem to matter how badly this issue polls, the left is determined to die on this hill.

Activists protest after NYU Langone halts transgender care for minors

Activists recently organized a protest outside of NYU Langone’s medical center over a recent decision to halt services that provide “gender-affirming care” to minors.

Several NYC-based activist groups attended the event, with demonstrators holding signs with messages such as “GENDER AFFIRMING HEALTHCARE SAVES LIVES.”

A number of politicians also participated in the demonstration, including former New York City Comptroller Brad Lander.

Chelsea Manning, a former soldier and whistleblower, criticized the Trump administration in his speech, asking “So why is it that we have so much money that we don’t even know where to allocate it, but we can’t seem to find funding for healthcare for ourselves and for our community?”

Manning, a transgender-identifying man, was previously convicted of 20 espionage-related charges before having his sentence commuted by President Obama. The New York Times reported that Manning’s testimony “showed that she had been in a mental and emotional crisis as she came to grips, amid the stress of a war zone, with the fact that she was not merely gay but had gender dysphoria.”

NYU Langone had announced the change last month following threats of funding cuts to providers who offer such services, Washington Square News reported.

A page on the center’s website, however, still includes a list of services that NYU Langone provides under the scope of “Comprehensive Gender-Affirming Care” for adults.

Procedures still listed on the website include “vaginoplasty to create a vagina,” “surgery to remove breasts,” “facial gender-affirming surgery,” “Hormone Therapy,” “Rehabilitation Care,” and others.

Under a section dedicated to “Transgender Care for Adolescents,” the center states, “For adolescents, we provide psychological counseling for the entire family.”
