Spanberger’s Rebuttal to SOTU Manages to Enrage People on Both Sides of the Aisle

Spanberger’s Rebuttal to SOTU Manages to Enrage People on Both Sides of the Aisle

“But here in Virginia, I am working with our state legislature to lower costs and make the Commonwealth more affordable.”

Rebuttals to State of the Union addresses have a way of evaporating almost as soon as the applause fades — dutiful responses that drift off into the political ether. If any have managed to stick in the public’s imagination, it’s probably the one delivered by then-Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) in 2013 — and not for its soaring rhetoric. It’s remembered less for its substance than for that now-infamous, awkward reach for a bottle of water, a fleeting, unscripted moment that outshone every carefully prepared line.

Still, the Democrats’ decision to tap newly inaugurated Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger, considered one of the party’s rising stars, to deliver this year’s rebuttal was an interesting one.

Location, location, location

Although delighted by her progressive agenda, Leftists were triggered by Spanberger’s choice to deliver her remarks from Colonial Williamsburg, due to its historical significance during the days of slavery. What kind of Democrat is she, for goodness’ sake?

After the venue was announced on Tuesday, Democrats took to Blue Sky to vent their anger. One infuriated liberal posted: “At some point, we have to realize the Democratic Party’s active role in preserving all of these systems and institutions that have led us to this fascist moment and ARE NOT WORKING.”

Another noted:

The establishment Democrats chose Spanberger to respond to King Con’s SOTU, and she’ll be speaking from Colonial Williamsburg–a faux colonial village created by JD Rockafeller [sic] in the early 1900s… let that sink in!

They are spitting in the Left’s face and giving us a preview of 2028!

And a third wrote:

The more I think about this choice for Democrats to rebut SOTU with Spanberger in Colonial Williamsburg, the more it reads as just an intentional kick in the face to just about everyone who has voted for Democrats in the past, and a direct appeal to MAGA Lite. It’s incredibly insulting.

‘Lies, damned lies, and statistics’

More predictably, Spanberger’s disingenuous and hypocritical speech also enraged those on the Right. She began her remarks by telling Americans that “tonight … we did not hear the truth from our president.”

After claiming that President Donald Trump’s tariff policies were making the price of goods more expensive, she told a whopper: “But here in Virginia,” she said, “I am working with our state legislature to lower costs and make the Commonwealth more affordable.”

Spanberger continued, “And it’s not just me. Democrats across the country are laser-focused on affordability — in our nation’s capital and in state capitals and communities across America.”

What?

After campaigning on affordability, her administration unveiled a series of tax increase bills within the first 48 hours of her inauguration. And these tax hikes weren’t aimed solely at high-income earners; most targeted ordinary Virginians. The sheer speed and scope of this legislative blitz drew immediate criticism, with detractors branding it a classic bait-and-switch. The sweeping power grab quickly commanded national attention, dominating headlines for weeks. And no one has forgotten.

The bills included the creation of two higher tax brackets of 8% and 10% on people making over $600,000; a 4.3% sales tax on services like Uber rides, DoorDash, and Amazon deliveries; a 3.8% investment tax; an increase in hotel taxes; a new personal property tax on landscaping equipment; a $500 sales tax on firearm suppressors; an 11% sales tax on all firearms and ammunition; and more.

With a Democratic supermajority in Richmond, most, if not all, of these measures are likely to become law.

The Center Square reported on a policy memo that was sent to Republican members of Congress by the Advancing American Freedom Foundation last week. According to the memo:

Seven proposed bills would raise taxes by an estimated $6.6 billion in fiscal year 2027 alone. The analysis states those projected increases would be more than 300% higher than previously forecasted growth in Virginia tax collections between fiscal years 2026 and 2027.

Taken together, the memo estimates the proposals could raise taxes by more than $37.2 billion over five years, covering fiscal years 2027 through 2031. The authors describe that figure as conservative because it excludes proposals lacking formal fiscal impact statements.

Yet there the new governor stood, lying straight faced to the American people about how she was working with state lawmakers to make life more affordable for her constituents. This charlatan, who campaigned as a moderate, is turning Virginia into a socialist nightmare.

She began her speech by asking three rhetorical questions: “Is the President working to make life more affordable for you and your family? Is the President working to keep Americans safe — both at home and abroad? Is the President working for you?”

In due course, she determined that the answer to each was a resounding “no.”

She also criticized the Trump administration’s deportation efforts, particularly in Minnesota. This was predictable. She ended her state’s cooperation with ICE on her first day in office, telling constituents, “And in Virginia, our hard working, law abiding immigrant neighbors will know that when we say that we will focus on the security and safety of all of our neighbors, we mean them too.”

Finally, after all that’s been revealed about the corruption inside the Biden administration, Spanberger nonetheless invoked George Washington’s warning in his farewell address about the danger of “cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men” rising to power — a reference that strikes most of us as profoundly ironic.

With her blatant bait-and-switch and bald-faced lying, she is sure to alienate independents and moderate Dems.

Good. When her socialism ruins everything, better. Overreach will be punished.

Unfortunate that we always have to wait for those terrible policies to hurt somebody before the overreach is punished.

She’s got two years for her voters (all with memories like goldfish) to forget this,
My tinfoil hat says she’s the answer to the question you’ve all been asking:
“AOC, Kammy, and Newsom are dumpster fires; Shapiro is rational but unelectable in the party of anti-semitism; who’s left for them to nominate?”

we are not apes
correct,,, you are democrat party slaves

Remember, she is an ex-member of the CIA. It should be a law that members of the CIA cannot become politicians, their allegiance is to the organization, not to the USA.

Never forget that Spanberger was, or at least claims to have been, a CIA case officer. This means that she was trained to lie while convincing people she was telling the truth. This suggests that the truthfulness of about 99% of what she says can be discounted as soon as it leaves her mouth.

The strategic gamble by #47 (when he asked people to stand if they believed that the federal government’s first priority is to protect American citizens, not illegal aliens, and the stewing, embittered Dhimmi-crats remained seated) shows how profoundly stupid, malicious, treasonous and destructive the Dhimmi-crat narcissists, fifth columnists, subversives and agitators are.

If these reprobates were intelligent, they’d have stood up at President Trump’s remarks about U.S. citizens. It’s a no-brainer, tactically savvy move, even if it would have represented completely dishonest, insincere and self-serving posturing. Instead, the petulant, infantile and hostile Dhimmi-crats couldn’t even pretend that they prioritize the interests of American citizens over illegal aliens.

President Trump exhibited Palpatine/Darth Sidious-level cunning, with this bold move that will now produce an endless array of memorable and devastatingly effective television and Internet video commercials, in advance of the 2026 congressional midterm elections.

Meh. Democrat debate candidates did a total self-own in 2019 without Trump’s help or anybody else’s. It’s on video, and they took the election from Trump anyway.

That play was a great move by Trump, predict what his enemies are gonna do and they did exactly what he said.
The better play would’ve been for the dems to stand and make Trump look foolish. Even if they didn’t care or believe in what he said.
Trump can run that on commercial after commercial this election season.
Let’s see if it works, especially in some of these so called tight races.

Thank you. No.

I’d rather listen to Yoko Ono’s greatest hits.

Or head on down to McDonald’s and stick my head in the fryolator.

Or go on a date with Rosie O’Donnell.

You get the idea…

Virginia is getting a taste of what Mencken described as “good and hard”.

And they fully deserve it.

Ms. Abby and her Democrat-controlled legislature make no secret of their plan for the Californication of Virginia. As Mr. Wilde aptly warned, “When the gods want to punish us they answer our prayers.”

Would love to stay and fight to the bitter end like Davy Crockett, but like presumably many others we’re fighting with our feet. After living in Virginia for 40+ years we’re moving to Florida.

Although BB was not available big bad Alex Padilla, the first appointed Latin senator from California filled in for him and invoked Bad Bunny in his closing.

I’m writing this from Florida after living in Virginia for 60 years. Left during Terry McAuliff and Ralph Northam’s dictatorships. Couldn’t be happier, even though I abandoned 2 children there. But they voted for, and fully deserve, Abigail.

Trump isn’t perfect but his opponents are fricking LUNATICS.

We know that they are lying, they know that they are lying, they even know that we know they are lying, we also know that they know we know they are lying too, they of course know that we certainly know they know we know they are lying too as well, but they are still lying. In our country, the lie has become not just moral category, but the pillar industry of this country.

Karefa-Johnson, who quit Vogue in 2023 after posting an anti-Israel rant in the wake of the October 7 massacre, quickly attracted gushing praise for her downgrade.

‘I’m sorry you had to do that-you deserve to be anywhere and everywhere. They belong in economy,’ one simpering follower wrote – ‘they’ being an apparent reference to white men.

‘Hard agree!’ Karefa-Johnson replied. ‘It’s just such a bummer that humiliation is part of gratification for racists.

She was there earlier in the day, shoe-shopping.
There’s not a blacksmith in Loudoun County can touch Williamsburg’s.

I didn’t watch the rebuttal. I rarely ever watch them because I’m not particularly interested in what the losers have to say. The fact that they picked that Manchurian candidate to deliver it just sealed the deal for me.

Spamburger

Raise your hand if you like the canned applause the producers inserted.

Abigail is the A in AWFUL

I’m still trying to figure out who Dems think they are appealing to with a SOTU rebuttal featuring people in frog costumes. It looked stupid. If Spanberger lying on nationwide TV with easily disprovable statements is the best Dems can do they are in big trouble.

I totally underestimated her. I figured she’d tell a lie for every breath she took. More like 20
