Virginia Judge Blocks Democrats’ Redistricting Amendment
Democrats responded: “Nothing that happened today will dissuade us from continuing to move forward and put this matter directly to the voters.”
Tazewell County Circuit Judge Jack Hurley Jr. ruled that Virginia cannot use the recently passed redistricting map that favored the Democrats 10-1.
The plaintiffs claimed that Virginia’s General Assembly, controlled by Democrats, did not follow its own rules when it proposed an amendment allowing lawmakers to draw a new map in time for the midterms.
The public would have voted on the map on April 21.
The proposed map would have given Democrats a 10-1 edge for the House of Representatives.
Right now, Democrats have 6 seats, while Republicans have 5.
The judge ruled against the plaintiffs regarding the complaint that the Democrats could not have kept the 2024 Special Session active as of October 31, 2025.
But Hurley agreed that the General Assembly violated its rules regarding the special session.
I wish I could copy and paste from the order! If my hands feel better (stupid cold weather causes RA flares), I’ll add snippets. But, for now, from WRIC:
Under House Joint Resolutions, the General Assembly was required to follow strict limits on what legislation could be considered. This includes rules on amendments, supermajority approval and unanimous decisions on certain matters.
However, the judge determined that the General Assembly did not follow these rules, meaning any actions taken to advance the redistricting plan were deemed invalid, per the Tuesday ruling.
The judge also found that the General Assembly did not follow the Virginia Constitution’s requirement that a proposed constitutional amendment pass two separate General Assemblies, with a general election in between, before being submitted to voters.
The court ruled that the General Assembly failed to comply with state notice requirements. Per Virginia Code, the Clerk of the House of Delegates is required to properly publish and post the proposed amendment before the next House of Delegates election. However, the judge found the General Assembly did not follow these procedures.
Virginia Democrats vowed to appeal:
Nothing that happened today will dissuade us from continuing to move forward and put this matter directly to the voters. Republicans who can’t win at the ballot box are abusing the legal process in an attempt to sow confusion and block Virginians from voting. We will be appealing this ruling immediately and we expect to prevail. This was court-shopping, plain and simple. We’re prepared for the next step, and voters – not politicians – will have the final say.

“can’t win at the ballot box are abusing the legal process”
Pot meet kettle or is it the other way around. Bunch of losers breaking their own rules and constitution to save democracy or something.

It is more Demsocialist projection, on an increasingly strident and desperate scale. Remember how they cried and wailed when Texas did some remedial redistricting?
The right is expected to fully abide by any judge’s decisions, no matter how biased or unConstitutional, but the left ignores decisions against them.
Nobody is above the laws.
I had the same reaction when I read that quote. Yet the context of the article suggests they were not saying, “We will proceed to do this anyway despite the judge’s ruling.” They were saying, “We will win on appeal, or if not, we will find a different way to do this that evades the judge’s ruling.” And after all, that’s what both sides do, Biden did this several times with student loans. Trump typically just wins his on appeal.
Democrats reaction:
1. Okay, back to the drawing board
2. We can always go back to cheating
3. There’s more than one way to a skin a duck
4. Cats have 9 lives, but it takes a stake through the heart to stop us
Back to cheating? Given all the rules they were ignoring this was just a different type of cheating.
Indeed. Omission or commission, the result is the same: ballot manipulation because their ideas suck.
The drop dead date for a candidate to file for Virginia primary elections is April 2nd. Realistically the d/prog will probably get their referendum and might survive challenges to get this 10/1 map in place for ’28 but ’26 seems much less likely. Even then if SCOTUS finally comes back and says no more majority minority districts off the cases in front of them this term then expect a two dozen ish seat swing in ’28 as CD are realigned.
vigilantism was just declared by soros backed da!
This is a small bunch of wannabe Nazis. That’s what they are,” Krasner said. “In a country of 350 million, we outnumber them. If we have to hunt you down the way they hunted down Nazis for decades, we will find your identities. We will find you. We will achieve justice.”

Filthadelphia clearly run by morons.
betting the dems redistricting made sure to include
all the cemeteries
Nothin’ to see here, folks. Move along.
Gee, a 10-1 change in the make up of the House seems to be a bit of a problem eh. Imagine, Democrats redistricting themselves in to a Super Majority. I mean, what could possibly go wrong?
Virginia turned into political glass?
Unfortunately, this ruling will last only as long as it takes the Dems to appeal to the state Supreme Court, which will overturn the decision as it is made up of mostly democrat operatives.
That’s a problem. The GOPe has ignored VA for years now and we’re seeing the results.
This article from a VA political blog (written by one of its liberal members) is actually quite good.
