Viral Photo of ‘Pepper-Sprayed’ Minneapolis Agitator Leaves Out Vital Context

“The close up still shot by Lucky Lefty the Photog makes it look horrific. But let’s roll the video and see the truth.”

You know, it never fails that when there is some sort of perceived “national uprising” going on among leftists, the mainstream media pounce and seize on trying to find that iconic image or video they feel best conveys the message of a valiant struggle in the quest to speak Truth to Power™.

They thought they had it with the Renee Good videos, but the different angles that came out soon after the initial reports made their narrative virtually impossible to sell.

So now we’ve moved on to the next one, courtesy of an incident that happened during a recent Minneapolis anti-ICE “protest” that saw an agitator who had been taken to the ground get sprayed by a federal immigration officer with what some reports describe as pepper spray.

Below are a couple of videos and then the images below that, all of which have gone viral on social media because of course:

The image was featured in a Minneapolis Star Tribune article, and the Usual Suspects immediately did their thing in response. Take note that everything NY Times leftist columnist Nicholas Kristof says about the 2026 incidents he referenced in his X post is a lie:

Take a moment to look at the inhumanity captured in this extraordinary photo running on the front page of tonight’s Minneapolis @StarTribune. It shows federal immigration agents immobilizing a protester on the ground and spraying chemical irritant directly into his face. The scene reminds me of the brutality used against civil rights protesters in the 1960s. We look back at those old photos and wonder how the authorities could have behaved so savagely; many years from now, young Americans will look at these photos from 2026 and wonder how anyone could have justified shooting a woman in the head as she tried to drive away, arresting 5-year-old schoolchildren on the street, or holding a man down and spaying chemicals into his face.

A Times article on the incident included this headline and subheadline:

Pepper-Sprayed While Pinned Down: A Searing Scene Provokes Outrage – Images of a man getting pepper-sprayed at close range while being held down by Border Patrol agents fueled more tension in Minneapolis.

Later, we were reliably informed that images like these are what have been provoking the purportedly innocent and peaceful demonstrators:

But photos of a Border Patrol agent squirting pepper spray in the face of a man who was being pinned down by fellow officers on Wednesday searingly captured why the ongoing immigration operation has been met with furious resistance on the streets of Minneapolis.

Except that the stories being told by the press paint an incomplete picture, as evidenced by the below clips and video commentary that referenced the fact that the agents had initially let the agitator up, only to have him try to escape. That’s when they took him down again, and the pepper-spraying happened:

Former DOJ prosecutor Shipwreckedcrew put things in perspective:

The video shows this protester was resisting arrest at that moment.

Pepper spray is to compel compliance with commands by inflicting temporary pain and discomfort, which distracts the individual from what they are resisting.

Which is exactly what happened as shown in the video.

A person placed under arrest does NOT have the “right” to resist.

Resistance is met by force to gain compliance with lawful commands.

Facts matter.

Facts don’t matter to the left. I’m not sure those on the right fully understand that. Part of the reason is that women make up much of the left and women frequently eschew logic (and facts) for emotion and narrative. They see what they want to see.

well yeah

hands up I cant breath
he was on his way to becoming a scientist
the smiling faces of the thugg from years back

hollywood lefty dnc msm has it down pat

stay armed and demand the gop get their balls back from oprah and enforce civil rights for the good people

There’s video of her spitting at the face of a Border Patrol officer before she was arrested.

Not sure why the lefty/wokiestas and their propagandists are suddenly against deployment of less than lethal force but I have a feeling they’d strenuously object to the consequences of removing those less than lethal options from LEO’s toolkit.

Yes, because if when making an arrest, if the subject struggles, that puts the safety of the officers in jeopardy, and the events that follow may results in a more dramatic outcome for the participants, including death of the agents or the subject. See other thread.

No, they wouldn’t mind. It would let them get away with a lot more.

With an unlawfully assembled, riotous mob refusing lawful orders and the absence of non lethal options ….that means bring in Mark-19 and .50 Cal to suppress/disperse the mob. I can assure you that the mob will absolutely not ‘get away with more’ once the Mark 19 starts pumping out 40mm grenades at 50 ish per minute of sustained fire….much less Ma Deuce cutting loose.

Either we disperse/suppress the mob with non lethal options or we do so with lethal options. There’s not a viable alternative and definitely no acceptable option to let the mob run wild.

Water cannons. Work like a charm.

Two problems with that. The primary issue that those are a local resource. Secondary issue is they hypothetical here; the absence of less than/non lethal tools. So it becomes a binary choice to either let the mob run wild in the streets (unacceptable) or use lethal tools to reestablish order (unpleasant, very controversial, bad PR but …). I’m about 1/3 of the way towards the point of seriously suggesting using A-10 to strafe these mobs and if that doesn’t get the mob off the streets follow up with fuel air bombs on the entire city. Mobs can’t be allowed. Period. If non and or less than lethal tools are off the table …well things will get real serious, real quick.

          Especially in Minnesota in January.

But, his point is accurate about removing options from the spectrum of force.

The short dude from Corsica had the right idea over 200 years ago. A whiff of grapeshot worked then and would be appropriate now.

She did a victimhood grandstanding press conference. The Internet can’t stop making fun of her comparing Somali culture to bananas and rice.

He had tried to get away once before and that is called resisting arrest. There are two ways to counter that. One is nonlethal and one is lethal depending on whether or not they are a threat to others. He got the simple non-life threatening way. This is what the police should have done to George Floyd but they tried to be humane to him by holding him down. Look how that turned out!

I am not a cop, nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn any time recently.
From the complete clip, my guess is that this is trained procedure. You have someone resisting arrest, just won’t give up. Give them a quick shot of capsaicin to settle him down. Quite unpleasant for him, but no one gets really hurt.

They left the FA part out while showing only the FO part.

FAFO is the only context required.

I know when I hear of people getting shot or sprayed the first logical decision I make is to go get into the middle of that and act up. This is social Darwinism in action.

Yeah, the first question you should ask when you see cops doing something… is how did he get there?

And if the answer is “He dindu nuffin!” then you should be really skeptical.
