Florida Designates Muslim Brotherhood, CAIR as Foreign Terrorist Organizations

Texas already slapped the label on the two groups last month.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has declared the Muslim Brotherhood and Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) as foreign terrorist organizations.

“Florida is designating the Muslim Brotherhood and the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) as foreign terrorist organizations,” DeSantis wrote on X. “Florida agencies are hereby directed to undertake all lawful measures to prevent unlawful activities by these organizations, including denying privileges or resources to anyone providing material support.”

The executive order states that “the Muslim Brotherhood’s Islamist ideology is irreconcilable with foundational American principles of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”

DeSantis also notes that people “connected to the Muslim Brotherhood” founded CAIR as “an official U.S. cover representing the Islamic community” to conceal its ties to Islamic extremist groups.

President Donald Trump has not officially designated the Muslim Brotherhood as an FTO.

However, Trump issued an executive order directing authorities to begin the process.

More of this please.

Islam is an irredeemably evil belief system utterly incompatible with western civilization.

And the muslim brotherhood is nothing if not islam put into practice.

What took Ron so long?

He’s the second Gov to do so in the absence of Federal action, which is really where this action belongs and would make real impact. IMO the better question is what’s taking Trump so long? He had a full four year term and didn’t pull the trigger. He’s 10 months into his second term without it and has not even begun the process for CAIR, which is frankly the more dangerous of the two in the USA.

When someone takes positive steps it should be appreciated. The fact that it was done far outweighs cries that it could have been done sooner.

Funny, before I read the comments I was thinking how FL Governor Ron DeSantis was one of the darlings of the GOP during Trumps 1st administration and into the start of the “Biden” years. Then as we got closer to 2024 the tide turned and a large segment of the MAGA crowd cooled on DeSantis, going as far as discounting him because of his height and the shoes he wore.

We can’t be so shortsighted and narrow minded to discount successful individuals who are closely aligned with our ideals simply because of superficial qualities or minor differences. I’m not convinced JD Vance is the best person to lead our nation, and I am open to other potential candidates such as Ron DeSantis and Marco Rubio. DeSantis knows how to run a large state that has a diverse population, both politically and socioeconomically.

Tell me when your boy DJT has declared them terrorists? He just made SOME of the Muslim Brotherhood chapters terrorists, not the entire bunch. You just can’t let up on DeSantis can you? He shames every governor in the country by his conservative actions. He is outlawing Chinese from owning property anywhere near a military base in FL. Trump is going to ALLOW 600,000 Chinese “Students” (Spies) per YEAR in this country. He wants no H1-B visas in FL but Trump wants to keep the program going with a $100,000 penalty which Silicon Valley has already said is Chump Change.

Terrorist means supports the currently designated bad guys. A loophole in the Constitution. It really needs to be moved into a military context rather than civil but Congress no longer declares war for anything.

That isn’t true. Congress declares war, it just uses a more modern-sounding term for it. Authorization for the Use of Military Force. That is a declaration of war. There are no magic words that must be used in a declaration. There’s no need for any special formula.

But this has nothing to do with the topic. When the Secretary of State designates a foreign terrorist organization, that does not create a state of war with that organization and does not authorize the president to use military force against it. The USA is currently at war with the network of Islamist terrorist organizations that in 2001 included al Qaeda; it is not at war with any other terrorist organizations.

With this second declaration behind Texas, let’s see who is hit hardest and loudest. Needs to be Federal too.

The biggest part of doing this on the State level is getting CAIR off college campuses. It should have been done decades ago.

How does this achieve that? What Florida law hinges on this purported “designation”? It’s not a crime to give material support to CAIR, and De Santis can’t make it a crime. Not even Rubio can do that. And nobody can make it a crime to give moral support to any organization whatsoever.

“Florida is designating the Muslim Brotherhood and the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) as foreign terrorist organizations,”

What does this even mean? Does Florida law have such a category? If there is no Florida law defining such a category and authorizing the governor to designate such organizations then this is nothing but a press release, just like Trump’s fake “designation” of some groups as “domestic terrorist organizations”.

If Florida law does have a category of Foreign Terrorist Organization, as federal law does, and it authorizes the governor to designate them, it remains to be explained what his evidence is that CAIR is foreign.

This is also why Rubio — who, unlike Trump or De Santis, is authorized to designate Foreign Terrorist Organizations — can’t so designate CAIR. To do so he would have to have evidence that it is run from abroad, that it obeys orders from leaders who do not live in the USA, and that its appearance as a domestic organization is a sham. It may be that this is so, but I’m not aware of any evidence for it. CAIR has definite ties to the Brotherhood, but it doesn’t seem to take orders from it. It appears to be an independent group that spun off from the Brotherhood but runs its own affairs.

I am sufficiently aware of its nature. And as far as I know it is a domestic organization, and does not take orders from anyone outside the USA. Does this Steve Emerson claim otherwise?!

I know that CAIR was founded by people associated with the Moslem Brotherhood, and 20 years ago it was suspected of giving material support to Hamas and other terrorist branches of the Brotherhood, but there was insufficient evidence to bring charges against it. But as far as I know no one has ever alleged that it is itself a terrorist organization, or that it’s run from abroad, which would be necessary for it to be designated as a foreign terrorist organization.
