House Republicans Fail to Censure Democrat Stacey Plaskett Over Epstein Texts
“Those documents show that Delegate Stacey Plaskett, a sitting member of Congress, coordinated her questioning during an Oversight — an official Oversight hearing, with a man who was a convicted sex offender, a man whose crimes against minors shocked this entire nation.”
House Republicans tried and failed last night to censure Rep. Stacey Plaskett of the Virgin Islands. The move came in the wake of revelations about Plaskett texting with Jeffrey Epstein during a hearing.
Three Republicans voted against the measure, along with House Democrats who voted unanimously against it, and three Republicans voted present.
Great work guys, really great.
FOX News reports:
House Freedom Caucus bid to censure Democrat over Epstein links goes down in flames
A House Freedom Caucus-led bid to strip a member of the House Democratic Caucus of her role on a high-profile committee after her ties to Jeffrey Epstein were revealed earlier this month failed on Tuesday night.
Lawmakers voted against censuring Del. Stacey Plaskett, D-V.I., the Virgin Islands’ nonvoting delegate in the House of Representatives, over newly surfaced text messages between her and Epstein that were exchanged during the February 2019 congressional testimony of Michael Cohen.
The censure had also included language to remove Plaskett from the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, which oversees entities like the FBI and CIA and regularly receives classified briefings on matters of national security.
Three Republicans joined Democrats to kill the measure, while three more Republicans voted “present.” It ultimately failed in a 209-214 vote…
Rep. Ralph Norman, R-S.C., who introduced the resolution, said during debate on the measure on Tuesday, “The House of Representatives has a responsibility and a duty to protect the integrity of this institution. And what we learn from the documents released by Jeffrey Epstein’s estate is nothing short of alarming.”
“Those documents show that Delegate Stacey Plaskett, a sitting member of Congress, coordinated her questioning during an Oversight — an official Oversight hearing, with a man who was a convicted sex offender, a man whose crimes against minors shocked this entire nation.”
What is wrong with the Republicans?
More from The Hill:
During debate on the resolution, Plaskett defended herself in an impassioned speech on the House floor, noting that it was not known Epstein was under investigation at the time they communicated and adding that she donated all his campaign contributions to women’s organizations.
“They’ve taken a text exchange which shows no participation, no assistance, no involvement in any illegal activity and weaponized it for political theater because that is what this is,” Plaskett said.
“I see members coming and speaking against me who have never even had a conversation with me. You don’t know me. You don’t know the work that I’ve done. You don’t know the support that I’ve given to families, to individuals, to support people. I worked a full-time job with children under the age of five, going to law school at night. Do you think I would risk my law degree for any individual, never mind a reprehensible individual by the name of Jeffrey Epstein? I would not.”
The GOP’s failure here is maddening. This should not have been a difficult effort.

If you censure her, you’re racist, and to question Epstein or Maxwell is antisemitic.
If you question Israel, you’re an antisemite. If you suggest Israel has too much influence over our government, you’re a conspiracy theorist. We do the same wearisome crap they do.
If you question why Israel exists yeah… you are an antisemite . If you are angry that Jews lobby for their very right to exist, you’re an antisemite. If you’re angry that any Jew has power and influence instead of your boot on their neck, you are an antisemite. If you think that helping Israel is too dangerous because it pisses off the Islamicists, you’re a coward.
See how easy that is?
You’re so close to getting it and yet so far
Problem is our conspiracies over here on the right have the tiresome habit of turning out to be true 🤔
Why would it matter that she didn’t know he was under investigation if she allowed him to direct her questioning?
The GOP failure to unite, in any and all legislative efforts, to censure Plaskett is yet one more example of why I expect the GOP will loose the House in the mid-terms.
Bunch of p*ssies. Who are the 6 who voted no?
Right who are they
The Republicans are nothing more than controlled opposition. I fully expect
wethey will lose control in 2026, leading to chaos.Another impeachment attempt.
Energy projects stopped.
More quotas and affirmative action
FAR more open and bad violence.
It may be time for the wheels to come completely off.
(I changed “we” to “they” because I’ve never registered Republican nor have I contributed to any of their national fund-raising. I vote the candidate, not the party.)
NAYS
Don Bacon (R-Neb)
Lance Gooden (R-Tx)
David Joyce (R-OH)
VOTED PRESENT
Andrew R. Garbarino (R-NY)
Daniel Meuser (R-PA)
Jay Obernolte (R-CA)
NOT VOTING
Trent Kelly (R-MS)
Michael A. Rulli (R-OH)
John H. Rutherford (R-FL)
Steve Womack (R-AR)
Rep. Gooden (R-TX) voted against her censure. I have read that this was a backroom deal in exchange for the Democrats dropping the move to censure Cory Mills from Florida.
They’re all rotten.
Slightly different official totals. According to the Clerk of the HoR website the final talky was 214 to 213 with 6 not casting a vote. Two GoP Reps Gooden,TX and Joyce, OH didn’t support the censure….and 3 of the six Members who didn’t vote were GoP, Garbarino NY, Rulli OH and Womack AR… but 214 other GoP members did support it against zero d/prog.
This was a question before the entire HoR not the GoP caucus. It’s not up to the GoP caucus to shoulder the burden of passage alone. IOW the HoR failed not the GoP.
Roll call vote #293 was taken in the afternoon, it was the 213-214 that failed, This vote was to send it back to committee. Roll call # 297 was held in the evening and was the actual censure motion, That vote failed 209-214 with three present votes. and three repubs who voted no.
Thanks for clarification on the numbers.
Parliament of HoRs.
A much better description for why the vote in House to hold one of its own accountable failed. PJ O’Rourke is definitely missed.
I think there’s a larger question here.
Why the (naughty word) is there a “delegate” from the (naughty word again) Virgin Islands in Congress?
The VI is not a state and I have absolutely zero interest in what their concerns might be, non-voting delegate or not.
If Plaskett wants to play politician she can get on an airplane, go home, and start a government there.
If this is the only thing that she’s known for – essentially passing notes in class like a 12 year old girl – it only reinforces my point.
Before this, she was also known for her Freudian slip when she said Trump needed to be “shot”.. and then corrected herself to “stopped”.
Nonvoting delegates are seate from District of Columbia, American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, plus Puerto Rico’s Resident Commissioner. They’re US citizens. They should have representation in the House. They don’t vote but they can craft legislation.
American Samoans aren’t US citizens.
It seems your correct.
American Samoans are not U.S. citizens; they are classified as U.S. nationals. This means that while they owe allegiance to the United States, they do not automatically receive U.S. citizenship at birth.
They seem to reside in a wierd twilight zone. In any event it appears they get representation.
These same people booted a republican from office.
One who had committed actual crimes.
You can always count on the GOP to fail. Republican voters have to get serious about primaries.
Or, serious about forming a VIABLE new party. Not a “third” party. A NEW party. There is a difference.
sex offenders are the dnc dsa blmplo mainstays
its their base
the gop is AFRAID TO WIN
b/c that demands responsibility to building maga >>”too much work”
while the lefty only needs a match to light the fires
wow an island of virgins
who’d a thunk it
O wonder if at least one virgin is named Olive Oyl?
thats a slippery slope
Extra virgin?
Probably not in 2025.
How close are the Virgin Islands to Epstein”s Fantasy Island?
Asking for a cartographer.
What Plaskett did was not illegal or unlawful and it didn’t violate House rules. It was absolutely ill-advised and demonstrated abysmal judgment, something her constituents should be reminded of during upcoming elections.
I would like to have seen her publicly humiliated but that’s for purely political reasons and because she’s an irritating twit. But I’m not sure the House should start censuring members and stripping them of committee memberships based solely on media accounts without so much as an inquiry into the veracity of the allegations.
What’s really irritating about this is that I’m in a position of agreeing with her and Jamie Raskin.
In the words of Epstein associated Bill Clinton – “I feel your pain”.
simple solution, no cell phones or other electronics on the floor or in committee hearings. If you watch hearings there are members constantly using their phones/ tablets / laptops all the time. Many even read off their phones during speeches. You can write out your speech and print it out on paper.
The evidence is very clear by looking at the time stamps and the video matching up, she was being coached by Epstein during the hearing just prior to her questioning, She was even asking for additional clarifications.
If Plaskett had done in Las Vegas what she did in DC, she’d have been in a walking cast.
Democrats are not voting to censure one of their own. If they vote to censure Ms. Plackett, next up will be a vote to censure the six Democrats calling on our military to disobey lawful orders. Democrats can’t have that, and they’re putting a stop to it right now.
So whitewashing someone with money…….what happened to he was sex trafficking to congressmen? Isn’t she in congress?
By the way what Epstein was actually convicted of was having sex with a seventeen year old
https://www.reddit.com/r/JoeRogan/comments/1exrwf8/andrew_tate_brags_about_hooking_up_with/
Andrew Tate having sex with 15 year olds in countries where that is legal doesn’t change what he did.
Furthermore what about Matt Gaetz?
Matt Gaetz again same thing.
Oh sorry do you want me to ignore evidence she was underage and decide he had sex with an 18 year old?
Did that couple of days make a difference? I don’t think it did.
Can you think of people who worked to try an Whitewash Matt Gaetz?
If you won’t take it from Trump and end the hysteria because he asked for it at least make it include getting Gaetz and Tate out of influence.
why are women ( lets exclude the pregnancy factor) not given the same leadway as males
when a 30 yo female teacher seduces a 16 yo male the hoots and cheers arise ( though not as much as they use to)
but not when its a male30 and a 16 yo female
( again..pregnancy not being an issue)
WE KNOW ITS WRONG
but why the double standard?
why do we pretend young women who in fact do want s ex..we want to act/believe…like we are protecting them
Again,,we know its wrong…..but why the double standards ??
and then why are we playing along and allowing women into the military as (supposed) battle field ready soldiers??
when we know the f they are not
It’s because of a biological reality and a social tradition.
There are the chasers, and there are the chaste.
Very dumb question. Girls seduced by older men can get pregnant.
Lets work through the Epstein files first then we can move on to a former Congressman who resigned and a British/US dual Citizen residing in Romania. The USA doesn’t have a National age of consent. It is set by each State, Age of consent is at 16 in 31 States. In 8 others at 17 with the remainder set at 18.
The GOP can’t help themselves, if they aren’t losing they snatch defeat from the jaws of victory and if they are losing they do everything they can to lose harder.
209 Republicans voted to censure her. This isn’t the GOP’s fault, it’s a handful of members.
Time for some arrests!
