Israel Strikes Near Yemen Presidential Palace After Houthi Missile Launch
The IDF airstrikes come after Iran-backed Houthi terrorists fired missile containing cluster bomb warhead.
Israeli fighter jets struck terror targets in Yemen on Sunday, two days after Iranian-backed Houthis fired a ballistic missile with cluster munitions at Israel. The Israel Defense Force (IDF) on Sunday afternoon confirmed hitting “military targets belonging to the Houthi terrorist regime in the Sanaa area in Yemen.”
The IDF disclosed hitting terrorist targets near the Houthi-controlled Presidential Palace in Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, along with other terror sites in the city. “A short while ago, the IDF struck military infrastructure of the Houthi terrorist regime in the Sanaa area, including a military site in which the presidency palace is located, the Asar and Hizaz power plants, and a site for storing fuel; all were used for the military activity of the Houthi terrorist regime,” the Israeli military said in a statement.

“Sunday’s attacks sent huge fireballs into the sky over Sanaa, the Yemeni capital,” London-based The Telegraph reported.

The strikes came after Houthis fired a ballistic missile with a cluster bomb warhead at Israel, the first projectile of its kind since the Israel-backed terrorist group declared war on Israel in November 2023, a month after Hamas’s October 7 massacre.
The hardware and technology for the new kind of warhead were provided by Iran. “The warhead was Iranian-made and contained three separate warheads, each containing cluster munitions,” The Telegraph reported, citing military experts.
A preliminary investigation into the Houthi missile launched towards Israel Friday indicated that the projectile was likely a missile with a cluster warhead.

The Jerusalem Post commented on the challenge posed by the new kind of ballistic missiles:
An investigation by the Israel Air Force on Sunday found that the ballistic missile launched by Yemen’s Houthis on Friday night contained cluster munitions, the first time during the war that they used this category of weapon.
On one hand, such a weapon tends to have a less harmful impact if it achieves direct hits as opposed to a classic ballistic missile.
But on the other hand, this kind of missile can have a higher chance of causing at least some minor harm because it splits into many parts, which can have many impacts.
The military confirmed that Sunday’s airstrikes were in retaliation for the Houthis’ firing of the missile containing cluster bombs. “The strikes were conducted in response to repeated attacks by the Houthi terrorist regime against the State of Israel and its civilians, including the launching of surface-to-surface missiles and UAVs toward Israeli territory in recent days,” the IDF statement added.

IDF raids weapons depot in south Syria, rounds up terrorists
The IDF recently conducted a raid in south Syria, uncovering a weapons depot and rounding up several terrorists for interrogation, the military announced on Sunday. In the recent past, both Iran-sponsored terror group Hezbollah and Syrian regime-backed jihadist groups have been active in the area.
“Troops from the 474th Brigade, under the 210th Division, completed several activities last week in southern Syria to locate weapons and apprehend suspects,” the IDF revealed in a press release on Sunday.

The Israeli military uncovered large amounts of weapons and captured terrorists. “During simultaneous searches at various locations, the troops located several weapons storage facilities where RPG missiles, explosive devices, AK-47 rifles, and large amounts of ammunition were hidden,” the IDF statement said. “In addition, following intelligence indications gathered in recent weeks, the brigade’s troops, together with field investigators from Unit 504, apprehended and questioned several suspects in the area.”
