President Trump Says Trade Deal at Risk After Canada Backs ‘Palestinian Statehood’

President Trump: “That will make it very hard for us to make a Trade Deal with them.”

President Donald Trump warned Wednesday that Canada’s promise to recognise a ‘Palestinian state’ would hurt its prospect of a trade deal with the United States.

President Trump responded on Truth Social by writing: “Wow! Canada has just announced that it is backing statehood for Palestine. That will make it very hard for us to make a Trade Deal with them. Oh’ Canada!!!”

President Trump’s response came after Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, on Wednesday, announced his government’s plans to recognize a Palestinian state in September. “Canada said on Wednesday that it would recognize Palestine as a state, if the Palestinian Authority commits to making certain changes including holding elections,” The New York Times reported.

Canada’s decision follows similar moves by France and the United Kingdom. Nearly 22 months after Hamas invaded Israel — massacring over 1200 men, women, and children, and kidnapping 250 others — some of the leading Western governments are lining up to reward these murderous acts.

President Trump is set to impose a 35 percent tariff on all Canadian imports, which are not covered under the existing U.S.-Mexico-Canada trade agreement, unless a deal is reached ahead of his August 1 deadline.

Reuters reported the U.S. president’s remarks:

U.S. President Donald Trump intensified his trade war with Canada a day ahead of his August 1 deadline for a tariff agreement, saying it would be “very hard” to make a deal with Canada after it gave its support to Palestinian statehood. (…)

“Wow! Canada has just announced that it is backing statehood for Palestine. That will make it very hard for us to make a Trade Deal with them,” Trump said on Truth Social.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney previously said tariff negotiations with Washington had been constructive, but the talks may not conclude by the deadline. Talks between the two countries were at an intense phase, he added, but a deal that would remove all U.S. tariffs was unlikely. (…)

Carney followed France and Britain as he said on Wednesday that his country was planning to recognize the State of Palestine at a meeting of the United Nations in September. (…)

“Canada condemns the fact that the Israeli government has allowed a catastrophe to unfold in Gaza,” he said.

Israel: Canada’s move rewards Hamas

Israel slammed the Canadian government for rewarding Hamas, a terrorist group that refuses to even negotiate the release of hostages languishing in its captivity since October 7, 2023.

“Israel rejects the statement by the Prime Minister of Canada,” the country’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Thursday. “The change in the position of the Canadian government at this time is a reward for Hamas and harms the efforts to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza and a framework for the release of the hostages.”

The Times of Israel reported further:

Iddo Moed, Israel’s ambassador to Canada, said Israel “will not bow to the distorted campaign of international pressure against it.”

“We will not sacrifice our very existence by permitting the imposition of a jihadist state on our ancestral homeland that seeks our annihilation,” he said in a statement.

”Recognizing a Palestinian state in the absence of accountable government, functioning institutions, or benevolent leadership, rewards and legitimizes the monstrous barbarity of Hamas,” Moed continued. “It punishes Israeli and Palestinian victims of Hamas, vindicates Hamas.”

Hamas declares ‘victory’

The terrorist group Hamas, which wants to destroy Israel and replace it with an Islamic state, cheered the decision by the UK and other Western countries to move towards the recognition of a Palestinian state. These countries were “moving in the right direction,” the genocidal terrorist group said.

The UK daily Telegraph reported on Thursday:

A senior Hamas official has welcomed Sir Keir Starmer’s promise to recognise Palestine, saying that “victory and liberation are closer than we expected”.

Basem Naim, a former minister in the terror group’s government of Gaza, said: “International support for Palestinian self-determination shows we are moving in the right direction.”

Britain, france, and canada going to allow mass migration of palestinian refugees?

One of the few mistakes Trump has made in his 2nd term was his needlessly aggressive trade posture with Canada immediately out of the gate…articulated even before he was sworn in. All that accomplished was to put a shiv in the campaign of Pierre Poilievre, a guy who would have been a tremendous ally to Trump had he successfully finished that campaign. Instead, the predictable populist backlash to Trump’s idiotic talk about making Canada a 51st state – which is stupid on multiple levels – accomplished nothing but breathing life back into the liberal party when it was set to suffer its biggest defeat in a generation. Now, Polievre isn’t even in Parliament anymore. It was a laughably inept strategy.

My tinfoil hat whispers that it may have been a strategy designed to seduce the productive western provinces into breaking off and applying for statehood without having to invite the quarrelsome eastern provinces.

      real good possibility on that

TargaGTS in reply to henrybowman. | July 31, 2025 at 10:34 am

If that was the strategy (it wasn’t), it was the dumbest strategy imaginable. The most ‘conservative’ province in Canada would produce two reliable Democrat US Senators. Here’s the reality: Trump isn’t a strategic thinker and he’s DEFINITELY not a strategic speaker. He’s an off-the-cuff speaker and it’s clear from the look on his Cheif-of-Staff’s face (which was caught on camera when Trump made that statehood comment), he was freelancing. It was a wholly idiotic move on his part. Having a Euro-aligned Prime Minister in Canada – which is what they now have – does NOTHING to advance American interests.

of course it does ( you said has nothing to advance our interests) when moderates look at how canada is favoring europe over the usa…some of those moderates will take offense to that and maga!

henrybowman in reply to TargaGTS. | July 31, 2025 at 11:07 am

Oh, not even my hat suggested it was a GOOD strategy.
On the other hand, the whole Greenland thing sounded equally if not more stupid, and look at how that turned out.

Canada still hasn’t realized it’s a 98 pound weakling trying take on a 400 pound gorilla. Big mistake.

thats what the left had everyone believing …that the conservatives were just about to take control BUT TRUMPPPPPPPPP

the game is rigged and just like the lefty is employing ( wherever they can) the ranked choice voting system,,, they are once again able to steer their way towards power

Crawford in reply to TargaGTS. | July 31, 2025 at 10:28 am

Trump is not the cause of Canada’s suicide. They made that choice themselves.

AbrahamFroman in reply to TargaGTS. | July 31, 2025 at 11:36 am

It was neither a ‘mistake’ nor a strategic decision. However, it may have been personal. For whatever reason, Trump doesn’t seem to like Polievre. Trump and Polievre have never met and there are very few examples of Trump speaking about Poliviere in any capacity, which is odd. When Canadian leaders were invited to Mar-a-Lago last December, Polievre wasn’t there. He was asked why he didn’t go and he said, “I wasn’t invited.” That’s really odd. It’s impossible to say why the tension exists, but one can imagine Trump being irked by Poliviere stealing some of of the spotlight from Trump as he became something of a sensation on US social media, notably on X. Or it may have been something else entirely unknown.

Whatever the cause of the animus was, in April, Trump gave an interview to the Editor of The Atlantic (for some inexplicable reason) and this subject comes up. Trump, in his very Trumpian way, pridefully takes credit for the collapse of the conservative party, although I think he chooses not to refer to Polievre by name. It was a very strange interview. With respect to the Palestinian question, Polievre’s defeat was an unfortuante development for Israel because he was without question one of the most articulate defenders of Israel since 10/7.

since plo ALREADY HAS ITS TERRITORY thats not the issue

the issue is they want the elimination of the j ews…THAT is a huge issue

so once again by allowing the left to control the narrative

they *only* want a place to live ..is once again bs

THEY HAVE A PLACE TO LIVE

if you let your 30 yo brother live in your house ,while you have a family etc..and its a small 1500 sq ft place AND your brother demands the he do as he pleases …whatever that may be…theres going to be trouble

So once again the left is controlling the narrative

( they just failed again with their lies about israel not allowing in food..or the little child on the front pages with his starving skeletal body on display..)

ITS ALL LIES ALL THE TIME

So does this mean the UK is going to take Muhamed Khalil off our hands?

Notice that they’re asking for “commitments” to change, not to actions. It’s surrender.

How badly are the governments of out “allies” owned by the Muslim Brotherhood?

Et tu Canada?

Prime Minister Mark Carney announces his support for the destruction of the state of Israel by supporting Palestinian statehood.

This would not be a ‘Palestinian’ state, it would be a Hamas state beholden to western governments and Iran.

Canada has a choice to make. Trade and wealth with America or virtue signalling with Europe and reduced trade and wealth with America.

I suspect Canada, with its low IQ politicians will select siding with Hamas over trade with America.

been to toronto lately????

The 2021 Canadian census enumerated a total population of 36,991,981, an iThe main driver of population growth is immigration,[9][10] with 6.2% of the country’s population being made up of temporary residents as of 2023,[11] or about 2.5 million people.[12] Between 2011 and May 2016, Canada’s population grew by 1.7 million people, with immigrants accounting for two-thirds of the increase.[13]

Canada has one of the highest per-capita immigration rates in the world,[14] driven mainly by economic policy and, to a lesser extent, family reunification.[15][16] In 2021, a total of 405,330 immigrants were admitted to Canada

. New immigrants to Canada settle mostly in major urban areas such as Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver.[17]

Canada also accepts large numbers of refugees,[18] accounting for over 10 percent of annual global refugee resettlements.[19][20]

even if public schools were not lefty run
you still couldnt educate people into a western way of thinking about capitalism….freedoms…when they are taught otherwise

with an accommodating welfare system ,,,the left will continue to secure not only election victories but street superiority to keep the “nationalists”( wow what a dirty word) in line

“Palestinian state” means “a state controlled by Hamas.”

Yes, but who are Palestinians? Mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, wives, children and relatives of Hamas, of course.

Well, where does Hamas come from: Palestinian mothers.

And after attack on Israel killing Jews: Proud Palestinian mothers.

Benjamin Disraeli, a British Prime Minister of Jewish heritage, was once asked, “What is proof of God?

And he answered, “The Jew”

On another occasion, he responded to an insult about his Jewish ancestry by saying, “While your ancestors were painting themselves blue, my ancestors were worshipping one God.”

Well, what’s the problem, the source of Jewish hatred? Why have Jews been persecuted all throughout history?

The Bible is true. There is a God. The Jews are God’s chosen people. The devil hates them.

If the palestinians put 1/3 of their energy and money into building stuff instead of trying to eliminate the Jews, they’d have a decent life. The same is true for a group here in America, but they have certain leaders who value the ability to grift off of hate over the betterment of their culture. As staright white christian conservative male, I have far better things to do with my time than persecute minorities. But to the leaders of some minority groups, persecution is apparently the only thing I do, 24/7.

You can see the differences between a people who value life and people who do not. All you need to do is look at what the Kurds in Northern Iraq have achieved with a fraction of the support and facing very real enemies not to concerned with feeding civilians.

The Kurds have built themselves a fully functioning society with everything that comes with it, education, health, wellbeing and respect. They have invested what little international support they have received directly in to building their society and community.

Palestinians have done everything possible NOT to build a functioning society capable of looking after its own people.
