NC Legislature Overrides Dem Governor’s Vetoes of 8 Controversial Bills, Including Recognition of Two Sexes
The legislation addresses issues including the recognition of two sexes, ICE enforcement, firearms on school property, parental rights, and government oversight.
North Carolina’s Republican-controlled legislature overrode eight controversial bills previously vetoed by Democratic Governor Josh Stein on Tuesday according to WFMY News 2. The legislation addresses issues including the recognition of two sexes, ICE enforcement, firearms on school property, parental rights, and government oversight.
WFMY reported that despite losing their veto-proof supermajority in November, Republicans secured enough Democratic support to push the overrides through.
House Bill 805 advanced into law. Among other provisions, this legislation:
[F]ormally recognizes only two sexes in state law, restricts the use of state funds for gender transition procedures, and sets new standards for birth certificate changes, parental opt-outs from classroom content, and access to certain library materials. The override passed 72-48.
NC legislature just overrode Gov Stein's veto of HB 805.
This bill:
– defines "woman" & "man"
– restricts pornographic content
– prohibits state funding for chemical/surgical castration for minors and prisoners
– gives parents more control in schoolsBOOM👏🏼 pic.twitter.com/Yb4lWETEF2

The American Civil Liberties Union of North Carolina sees this legislation quite a bit differently than the Republicans in the General Assembly. The group refers to HB 805 as the “Anti-Trans/School Censorship Bill. According to the ACLU, it will:
-
Force trans people to out themselves in situations where a birth certificate is needed
-
Create rigid definitions of sex and gender in state law
-
Extend the time for medical malpractice suits for gender affirming care in an attempt to intimidate providers
-
Ban gender affirming care for people in the custody of the Department of Adult Correction
And allow parents to:
- Prohibit their child from checking out certain books in the school library for any reason
- Pull their child from any classroom activity or discussion that they believe burdens their religion
In other words, it will reverse the madness the left has imposed on us over the past decade.
House Bill 318, the Criminal Illegal Alien Enforcement Act, became law. This measure “requires sheriffs to notify U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement when inmates are subject to immigration detainers. The House voted 74-46 to override the governor’s veto, following a similar vote earlier in the Senate.”
Following the vote, House Speaker Destin Hall issued a statement which said, “Governor Stein and Democrats side with criminal illegal aliens, but the House stands with North Carolinians.”
Senate Bill 226 — described by WFMY as similar to HB 318 and passed in the House by the same 74–46 margin — “mandates ICE notification for inmates with immigration detainers.”
House Bill 193, permits “employees and volunteers at nonpublic schools to carry certain weapons on campus with school authorization. It also permits concealed carry on the shared grounds of schools and places of worship during religious services. The override passed by a 72-48 vote.
The other overrides included (via WFMY):
- House Bill 402 (73-47), which imposes restrictions on the implementation of agency rules with significant financial costs.
- House Bill 549 (72-48), expanding the state auditor’s authority and allowing the Department of Revenue to collect debts owed to state agencies through levies and garnishments.
- Senate Bill 416 (74-46), known as the Personal Privacy Protection Act.
- Senate Bill 254 (74-56), which changes various charter school regulations.
The successful overrides represent a decisive course correction—and a long-overdue return to sanity in North Carolina. These measures push back against years of radical, left-wing policies that undermined parental rights, public safety, and biological reality. With these overrides, Republicans are reclaiming control, restoring order, and standing up for the values of everyday North Carolinians who have grown tired of ideological overreach.

Once again, I object to the fact that the ONLY ‘legitimate’ objection to nonsense in schools is ‘because religion’.
No, parents should be allowed to pull their kids out FOR ANY REASON, period.
Accidently down voted. Should be an upvote.
I offset the accidental down vote with a large up vote
Thanks!
Little Joshey Stein worked behind closed doors with Marc Elias in the “sue and settle” dog and pony show Elias took around the country in 2020 to get election law changed without going through the legislatures. Stein is a POS of the highest order
I hope the ACLU is right and every one of their nightmare scenarios are realized to the fullest… yes in other words, a return to sanity.
“According to the ACLU, it will force trans people to out themselves in situations where a birth certificate is needed”
All year long, it’s Pride, Pride, Pride… but when the rubber meets the road, you just beg to escape your feelings of shame and guilt.
Because all the “pride” nonsense is just happy self-talk in a vain attempt to suppress their guilty conscience for engaging in that which they know to be shameful, unnatural acts.
Well, Trump celebrates gay sex at his Mar-a-Lago resort, and dances to the music of The Village People, a homosexual musical group, so it must not be “shameful, unnatural acts,” at least according to Trump and MAGA.
So telling the truth on official documents is “outing” now and something that people object to being forced to do. This is not a sign of mental health.
Sign of mental health? That water’s passed under the horse for decades now.
Speaking of mental health – body dysphoria is probably the only mental health problem the state is expected to reinforce (with “gender affirming” care), rather than with actual mental health care that addresses the disorder.
I hate to break it to them, but 99.9% of trans people “out” themselves just by going out in public.
My brother used to own a 1976 Chevette.
In public he liked to call it “the ‘vette”
Strangely, he never fooled anyone.
Literally none of that is controversial unless you’re retarded
Josh, couldn’t you have been a good boy and become a pulmonologist?
He might fit in better with a nice proctology practice.
Where would the majority, benighted Christians be without “Josh” Stein’s morality lessons?
I mean…how can the gop lose with allllllll this lefty hate towards women and men and children and the very usa!!???
oh lets count the ways
I’m confused.
Isn’t the ACLU opposed to this law?
So why did they only list all the benefits of it? I was already sold, they didn’t have to convince me.
Tell me again how Stein managed to get elected governor???
Common sense prevailed in NC.
