Wisconsin Prof Who Flipped College Republicans’ Table Suspended for a Year
“I was starting to have pretty intense feelings about things, and regretfully, I didn’t examine those feelings or their intensity until I did something that I really regret doing.”
Does anyone ever just get fired anymore? This person’s behavior is unacceptable.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports:
UW-Eau Claire professor who flipped over College Republicans table loses job for a year
A University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire professor is on unpaid leave for the next school year after flipping over a table set up by the university’s College Republicans chapter on Election Day this spring.
UW-Eau Claire removed Professor José Felipe Alvergue, 45, as chair of the English department in the days after the April 1 incident and initiated disciplinary proceedings against him for potential termination. The university agreed to an unpaid suspension for the 2025-26 year and other disciplinary actions, according to records released to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel on July 24.
In Alvergue’s first public interview since the incident, he expressed remorse and said he is now working a full-time, minimum-wage job to offset his loss of income.
He said he felt restricted by a new policy that took effect in the wake of weekslong campus protests over the Israel-Hamas war. The policy requires UW institutions and officials, including department chairs, to maintain neutral viewpoints when referencing any political or social controversy.
“As a low-level administrator, I was in a situation of being position-neutral,” he told the Journal Sentinel. “I wasn’t fully honoring that I’m a human being and that I was starting to have pretty intense feelings about things, and regretfully I didn’t examine those feelings or their intensity until I did something that I really regret doing.”
Alvergue, who joined UW-Eau Claire in 2013, said he was feeling overwhelmed by the election and Elon Musk’s attempts to sway Wisconsin voters with $1 million checks. As the child of immigrants, he said he was also distressed by the Trump administration’s mass deportations.
“I still care about these things, “he said. “But that doesn’t mean I get to go out and knock tables over.”

Oh.
A “low level administrator” who probably thought he was all that and a bag of chips before he flipped the table.
Now he’s on unpaid leave? Fire his angry backside.
Chair of the English Department is a low level administrator? What is a high level administrator? Chief Diversity Officer?
Yeah, that’s a puzzling statement. Low level?
English teachers are a dime a dozen in academia.
No, you only get fired for saying race shouldn’t be taken into consideration when grading.
I think this is the FO part. This is a very significant FO, too.
I am named Professor José Felipe
so I Feliped over their table
Dear Professor:
Seek psychiatric help.
Or ask your parents to spank you as they should have long ago.
Either way.
What does this say about the value of an English degree in the private marketplace?
The best shipping clerk I had when I was an IT project manager had a BA in early American literature from Brown.
Does anyone ever just get fired anymore? Yes. Those who reveal themselves to be non-Woke.
Or, as Naomi Wolf reminds us today in her intriguing blog, professional heroes in NYC who refused the vaxx.
like when that hardcore lefty would show up on carlsons show and denounce the leftists
I guess she would still be doing the same on her blog as her pov is being run over by the omar crew

Hmmm…were the Republicans at the table he flipped human beings with “intense feelings” as well? Would that have justified them flipping ~him~ over after he did it?
One wonders whether there was an apology to the students, and if so, what it looked like. Or did he just regret the action because of what it cost him? My money’s on the latter.
The only thing he regrets is that he got caught. Soon enough he will go back to his job teaching about 19th century lesbian poetry in the earli Victorian era.
Thank goodness he didn’t misgender someone or do something deserving real punishment!
A Department Chair is not a “low-level” administrator.
Career Left Wing Crank. Western Civilization Hating Leech, like all modern academics.
