Apple Will Invest $500 Billion, Add 20K Jobs Amid Tariffs on China
Apple will work with Foxconn Technology Group to build “the servers that power the cloud component of Apple Intelligence — a system called Private Cloud Compute — in Houston.”

Apple will invest in America to avoid paying tariffs placed on goods imported from China by President Donald Trump.
From Bloomberg:
The company said Monday that it plans to spend $500 billion domestically over the next four years, which will include work on a new server manufacturing facility in Houston, a supplier academy in Michigan and additional spending with its existing suppliers in the country.
The $500 billion investment and pledge to add 20,000 new jobs mark Apple’s biggest US commitment to date. Apple said it hired 20,000 research and development workers over the last five years and said in 2021 it would invest $430 billion locally over the next half-decade. That means the latest development is a slight acceleration over its prior investments and previously announced plans, adding $39 billion in spend and an additional 1,000 jobs annually.
The disclosure comes days after Trump and Apple Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook met in the Oval Office.
Trump wrote on Truth Social:
APPLE HAS JUST ANNOUNCED A RECORD 500 BILLION DOLLAR INVESTMENT IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. THE REASON, FAITH IN WHAT WE ARE DOING, WITHOUT WHICH, THEY WOULD’NT BE INVESTING TEN CENTS. THANK YOU TIM COOK AND APPLE!!!

Now JR will have to admit what a great president Trump is.
And that’s how it’s done, son!
Confucius say, “Apple jobs move to USA make Chinaman angry.”
China still the leader in AI (Artificial Infections).
Oh, definitely yes. The one’s from Wuhan are the best bar none.
Apple’s bigger problem at the moment is its capitulation to the UK government. While it (claims) it didn’t build the iCloud backdoor that the UK was demanding, it has now disabled end-2-end encryption for all UK customers. This will be the first time Apple has been cowed by a western government into reducing the encryption protections for its users. Now that Apple has proven to be spineless, the UK won’t be the last western country that demands they disable these protections. You can’t be the ‘privacy alternative’ to Google & Microsoft and do this. People are paying the ‘Apple Tax’ because they like the data protection features Apple has and Google and Microsoft don’t…features that no longer exist in the UK.
Why would Apple start growing a backbone now when they’d already bent over backwards for Biden and his Junta?
But yes, worrying times in Europe.
What you highlight it notably relevant to the story cited above. Why would any person/business concerned with data integrity use cloud computing services hosted by Apple after what they’ve done in the UK this week? Apple has some nerve calling it ‘Private Cloud Compute.’
What wasn’t clear in this is whether Apple is building its own servers or building servers designed by someone else. That is to say, their own chips and design, or simply licensing a proven server design from someone else.
Apple built its own servers at one point many years ago and then walked away from that market. Its share then was minuscule and they had no fresh ideas.
So — is Apple entertaining coming back to the server market, or it is simply recognizing that it needs so many servers for itself that it might as well build them?
Apple hired Hillary Clinton as a consultant and determined that there is a huge market for installing servers in bathrooms, restrooms, water closets, johns, lavatories and loos.
They test the circuit boards for fume resistance and explosion proofing by installing prototypes in bus station rest rooms.
And that’s a hard test to pass.
You laugh, but one of our more squirrelly small brokerage clients for our fail-proof minicomputer servers in the ’80s installed their unit in an unused stall in the women’s room. Installed it face-in to boot, meaning they could never see the trouble lights. Good thing it “phoned home” to our service department whenever it needed replacement components.
Well yeah, in the women’s room it would be safe. If it had been installed in the men’s room somebody would’ve urinated on it.
Texas had better watch out as the woke C suite will start pushing their money around.
They already are
State legislators are MUCH cheaper to buy for corporations than federal legislators are. Look at the existing problems in both the Florida and (particularly) Texas state houses. DeSantis could barely get his illegal alien initiative passed (because Big Biz didn’t want the state to make it harder to hirer illegals) and the Texas House Speaker is the prime example of Republican in Name Only, leading the Impeachment of the reliably conservative Texas AG last year. We have some conservative governors but we really don’t have any truly conservative state legislators because those donor checks always clear.
Hopefully this isn’t just a plan to flood red states with more left-leaning voters. Georgia has been hit hard with their catering to the movie industry.
My goodness look at that…. it’s as if people respond to incentives both + and – in making economic decisions and that the many way too overly simplistic arguments that tariffs can’t be beneficial to domestic markets were wrong. /S
Tough to consume any product without $. Far easier to get $ with job especially if it is a good paying US manufacturing job like.we.used to have before the globalist shipped them offshore in search of lower labor costs and lower regulatory/tax structure overseas.
Hopefully they’re not going to be requesting 900+ H-1B visas annually.
Would be easier to keep the servers cool in a more moderate part of the country than Houston. But I’m glad it’s in America and trust/hope that the smart people at Apple accounted for that in their cost-benefit analysis. Wishing them all the best, for all of our sakes!
