Ukraine Accuses Russia of Drone Attack on Chernobyl Plant
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) confirmed that a team at Chernobyl had responded right away when they heard the explosion.

Ukraine released a video showing a drone attack on reactor 4 of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant.
I don’t have to provide a history lesson on Chernobyl, right? Okay, good.
The shell over Reactor 4 keeps radiation from the 1980s explosion contained and stable.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky explained the situation with a video of the attack and pictures in the follow-up post:
Last night, a Russian attack drone with a high-explosive warhead struck the shelter protecting the world from radiation at the destroyed 4th power unit of the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant.
This shelter was built by Ukraine together with other countries of Europe and the world, together with America – all those committed to real security for humanity. The only country in the world that attacks such sites, occupies nuclear power plants, and wages war without any regard for the consequences is today’s Russia. This is a terrorist threat to the entire world.
The shelter at the Chornobyl NPP was damaged by this drone. The fire has been extinguished. As of now, radiation levels have not increased and are being constantly monitored. According to initial assessments, the damage to the shelter is significant.
Every night, Russia carries out such attacks on Ukraine’s infrastructure and cities. Russia continues to expand its army and shows no change in its deranged, anti-human state rhetoric. This means that Putin is definitely not preparing for negotiations — he is preparing to continue deceiving the world. That is why there must be unified pressure from all who value life – pressure on the aggressor. Russia must be held accountable for its actions.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) confirmed that a team at Chernobyl had responded right away when they heard the explosion. Thankfully, the drone did not penetrate the inner part of the shell, keeping radiation inside.
Radiation did not leak. The IAEA assured the world that radiation levels “remain normal and stable:”
During the night of 13-14 Feb, at around 01:50, IAEA team at the Chornobyl site heard an explosion coming from the New Safe Confinement, which protects the remains of reactor 4 of the former Chornobyl NPP, causing a fire. They were informed that a UAV had struck the NSC roof.

Fire safety personnel and vehicles responded within minutes. At this moment, there is no indication of a breach in the NSC’s inner containment. Radiation levels inside and outside remain normal and stable. No casualties reported. IAEA continues monitoring the situation.

DG @rafaelmgrossi said the incident at Chornobyl and recent increase in military activity around Zaporizhzhya NPP underline persistent nuclear safety risks. “There is no room for complacency, and the IAEA remains on high alert,” he said.

Yes and they traced it to two operators: the Ghost of Kiev and a Korean.
Will someone go ahead and hit the place with a hypersonic warhead and spread low-level contaminants all over Ukraine and render the soil unuseable for many years?
I’m sick of the place.
I think that Ukraine corruption is rampant, I read that they are selling US weapons on the black market, I am pretty sure they bribed our politicians with our money.
Still, I think that Russia is worse, that they must be held in check.
What would Russia’s motive be for such an attack?
Paraphrasing Arlo Guthrie they want to do all kinds of mean nasty ugly things.
None. Ukraine, OTOH, has every incentive to do something like this.
Russia has been trying to destroy Ukraine for a while now
At this point? Not much. Why risk any sort of major PR debacle that creates sympathy for Ukraine casting Russia as the super villains? The only winner in creating the headline ‘Chernobyl Nuke Plant attacked by Russia’ is definitely NOT Russia, it is Ukraine.
Learning experience for me. I never realized Chernobyl was inside Ukraine. I th0ught it was well inside Russia. I couldn’t make sense of the headline.
And my reason for believing this is real and not AI is because the little Piano Pecker is such an honorable and truthful person who is not desperate to keep his multibillion dollar grift going??
Am I misremembering? Didn’t Ukraine have one of its missiles hit Poland in an attempt to drag NATO more into the conflict?
Hasn’t Ukraine repeatedly lied about all kinds of stuff with the support of our legacy propaganda media?
Why should I believe any of their claims?
