Florida Sheriff Chad Chronister Withdraws as Trump’s DEA Nominee

Chronister came under fire for extreme actions during COVID.

Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister has withdrawn from consideration to lead the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA).

Chronister faced backlash from many people on the right, especially Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY). You can also read the reactions to his X post.

The sheriff backed extreme COVID lockdowns in 2020.

In March 2020, Chronister’s officer arrested Dr. Rodney Howard-Browne for holding church services during the lockdown.

Howard-Browne faced two second-degree misdemeanor charges: unlawful assembly and violation of public health emergency rules.

A press release quoted Chronister as saying Howard-Browne’s “reckless disregard for human life put hundreds of people in his congregation at risk and thousands of residents who may interact with them this week in danger.”

Thank goodness authorities dropped the charges.

A month later, Hillsborough County deputies arrived at a house after reports of shots fired while people occupied it.

The shooters fled, but the authorities arrested Natalia Rodriguez Cuervo, owner of the property, for violating a COVID executive order, which ended vacation rentals.

Cuervo rented her property to people for two days.

“Alleged ignorance of the law is no excuse for not following it. Our deputies have worked for weeks to educate and encourage the public to follow the emergency orders,” Sheriff Chad Chronister stated at the time. “As I’ve stated continuously, we will continue to enforce the emergency orders, especially when blatant disregard for them puts the lives of others in danger. It is important that we hold those who violate the orders accountable, no matter who they are, so the sacrifice of so many is not wasted by the irresponsibility of the few.”

I’ve heard people say, “he was just following the law.”

Yeah, well, I remember plenty of sheriffs and other law enforcement agents choosing not to comply with stupid COVID rules and laws.

    Strike one on Pam Bondi.

I believe she is loyal to Trump but I followed her closely here in Florida and she supported some crap Republicans who were democrats in sheep clothing.

Loyal means you can trust their intentions – it doesn’t mean you can trust their judgment

Covid Karen totalitarians who acted to violate individual liberties should be ostracized, shamed and shunned out of public life whenever possible. None of them should be appointed to positions of public trust and responsibility.

It is important that we hold those who violate the orders accountable, no matter who they are, so the sacrifice of so many is not wasted by the irresponsibility of the few.

It is important that we hold those who enforced the un-Constitutional orders accountable, no matter who they are, so the sacrifice of so many to create and maintain our Constitutional Republic is not wasted by the irresponsibility and blithe disregard of our inherent rights of the few.

Covid Karen. Nice.

Any official or politician who backed Wuhan virus masking, lockdowns and other assorted, irrational, histrionic, destructive and callous diktats should be considered persona non grata in #47’s Administration.

Always remember, we’re the folks who invented and enforced the idea that “I was only following orders” is not an excuse for unlawful behavior.

Regarding “ignorance of the law”:
“What else than ignorance of the law is it that excuses judges themselves for all their erroneous decisions? Nothing. They are every day committing errors, which would be crimes, but for their ignorance of the law. And yet these same judges, who claim to be learned in the law, and who yet could not hold their offices for a day, but for the allowance which the law makes for their ignorance, are continually asserting it to be a ‘maxim’ that ‘ignorance of the law excuses no one;’ (by which, of course, they really mean that it excuses no one but themselves; and especially that it excuses no unlearned man, who comes before them charged with crime.)”
Lysander Spooner

The “asshole” is strong with this one. Those gold stars on his costume collar are as obscene as the worst televangelist on CBN.

Trump has STILL not learned his lesson about operating on intuition. That sheriff represents exactly what is wrong with government and why government has become the enemy of the people.

Now do Sec. of Labor

Unless I’ve missed something, Trump has now had two nominee’s withdraw. One with detractors who were anti-Trump. one with detractors who are pro-Trump. I don’t see Trump making a lot of fuss about, but simply replacing them with another.

I don’t believe any of this 4-D chess nonsense, of Trump is playing chess while others are playing checkers. But IMHO, I think it makes it easier for all the rest of the nominees to sail through- since Trump is making no fuss about them withdrawing. Now this nominees apologized for his actions that made him unacceptable to Trump supporters- but like me, many of the others are in a neither forgive not forget state of mind about government overreach during the covidiocy. And he was neither forgotten nor forgiven. He made the wrong choice when right choices mattered.

People will admit they were wrong log before they admit they are fooled. And I think Trump is suffering from that. He was fooled by Fauci and the other public health “experts”. He hasn’t and probably never will, admit he was fooled. However, he has appointed RFK Jr to a post where he can do something about the fact that he, Trump, was fooled, and Dr. Jay Bhattacharya to another post where he can do the same thing. A case where actions are more important then words. And letting servicemembers discharged for refusing the vaccine that isn’t come back with backpay would be the loudest such action possible. And it seems that may be happening…

It’s going to be an interesting next few years. If his VP candidate works out as hoped, I hope Trump at 2 years and a day resigns to enjoy a well deserved retirement, and hands the reins over to a younger generation. Someone who can finish his term and do two more.

Anyone really believe THAT was why he withdrew? Not for all the blowback about the nomination? Just a guess, but it wouldn’t be hard to imagine Trump leaned on the withdrawl after all the negative comments. Trump does listen to the people

Even here in Florida if the left in our major cities could get away with all of their nutty views we would be like California. Yeah, Ron has done a very good job and we want to keep it that way.

Come on, folks! Dude’s named “Chad” in Florida. This nomination was doomed all the way from 2000.

Good. He was one of the worst “just following orders” people out there. Many other Sheriff’s refused to do it but he went after people with zeal.

However, he is wearing more medals than Eisenhower, so he must be qualified, for something.
