Trump Nominates Gov. Kristi Noem for Dept. Homeland Security Secretary

“She will work closely with ‘Border Czar’ Tom Homan to secure the Border.”

President-elect Donald Trump nominated South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem to serve as Department of Homeland Security secretary.

Another department that should not exist. But I digress…

“Kristi has been very strong on Border Security. She was the first Governor to send National Guard Soldiers to help Texas fight the Biden Border Crisis, and they were sent a total of eight times,” wrote Trump in his statement. “She will work closely with ‘Border Czar’ Tom Homan to secure the Border, and will guarantee that our American Homeland is secure from our adversaries. I have known Kristi for years, and have worked with her on a wide variety of projects – She will be a great part of our mission to Make America Safe Again.”

Now, we just need Congress to reform our immigration system.

With the trifecta, the Republicans have no excuse to do so. Reforming the system will help with border security.

Another excellent nomination.

Well done.

I think Mrs Nome should do to the Department of Homeland Security what she did to her dog. It doesn’t need to exist

BS, I bred German Shepards, Rottweilers for most of my life and still breed Egyption Maus, simply because I like them. It is necessary to put animals down from time to time. I don’t know anyone who enjoys this. Usually it is to keep them from suffering.

There’s some thinking this is 4D chess by President elect Trump. Supposedly John Thune’s wife wants to return to South Dakota. While the lieutenant governor would take over, it opens the possibility that he might run for governor and, assuming him winning, retiring from the Senate.

Thus eliminating John Thune for Senate Majority Leader..

How does that work? The election for governor wouldn’t be till 2026, when it would have happened anyway, and Noem would be term-limited out anyway. So how does taking her out of the state house now do anything to prevent Thune from running for majority leader now?

On the contrary, it means her lieutenant will be running in 2026 as an incumbent, and will thus be harder to defeat, so if it has any effect on Thune at all it would be to make him decide not to run for governor after all, and stay in the senate.

It is well known that Thune’s wife has been pushing him to go back home. He was giving serious consideration to retiring from the Senate 2 years ago. Going home to be governor would keep him in politics and allow time with his grandchildren.

But he can’t go home to be governor until 2026, when he could have done so anyway. Removing Noem does nothing to make it easier for him to run for governor then.

If a governor leaves before the end of their term, is a special election called? Or is it the lt. governor gets placed until the next election?

No, the lieutenant governor takes over. Are there any states where that is not the case?!

So regardless of whether Noem takes this appointment, the next election will be in 2026, and Noem will not be a candidate.

She kills mad dogs, I concur.

Congress doesn’t have to do anything about immigration law and I’m disappointed you would say that. All our government needs to do is follow the current law. The only thing I’d like to see out of the Congress is a massive penalty for anyone in government refusing to follow or enforce the law.

Huh. So the leaks to CNN and NY Times are looking more real this morning.

That’s a shame. Such leaks were a plague on Trump’s first term.

Who pays attention to NY Times of CNN?

It’s interesting that (I believe) all the nominations thus far leaked…except for Huckabee and Hegseth. While I can’t prove this, I HIGHLY suspect that the leaks didn’t come from the Trump inner-circle and instead, came from the prospective nominees themselves (or people close to them). Huckabee and Hegseth apparently run tighter ships.

“With the trifecta, the Republicans have no excuse to do so. ”

Missing a “not” in there.

Politico non entity. Not terrible. Not great. Meh….

Will Corey Lewandowski work under her? Hubby Bryon can shake the towel.
