Report: Bezos Tells Washington Post to Hire More Conservative Opinion Writers

I can already hear so many heads explode on the left. God forbid there’s a balance.

The New York Post reported that Washington Post owner Jeff Bezos told the paper to hire more conservative opinion writers.

Jennifer Rubin doesn’t count as a conservative opinion writer.

From The New York Post:

Washington Post owner Jeff Bezos has reportedly given the newspaper a mandate to add more conservative voices to its opinion section — even as he remains silent over the broadsheet’s decision not to endorse a candidate in the 2024 presidential election.

Bezos — the world’s second richest person with a fortune that Bloomberg Billionaires Index valued at $211 billion as of Monday — is keen on gaining a more ideologically diverse readership by expanding his newspaper’s reach among right-leaning audiences, according to a report in The New York Times.

The Amazon founder, meanwhile, has remained silent over the non-endorsement controversy. He has not spoken publicly amid protests from high-level staffers and prominent figures such as Watergate reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein.

I wonder how others on the left will respond since they went insane when CEO Will Lewis didn’t allow the editorial board to endorse a presidential candidate.

People blamed Bezos, but Lewis said he made the decision.

Lewis announced the paper would not make a presidential endorsement this year or “in any future presidential election.”

Lewis said WaPo is returning to its roots “of not endorsing presidential candidates.”

Heads exploded. People canceled their subscriptions.

Opinion writer Robert Kagan resigned in protest:

Robert Kagan, a member of the opinions section, resigned in protest. He said that Lewis’ explanation was “laughable” and that the decision not to endorse stemmed from an alleged deal between Bezos and former President Donald Trump.

Bezos’ space exploration company Blue Origin has contracts with the federal government to build a spacecraft to transport astronauts to and from the surface of the moon.

“This is obviously an effort by Jeff Bezos to curry favor with Donald Trump in the anticipation of his possible victory,” Kagan told CNN on Friday.

“Trump has threatened to go after Bezos’ business,” Kagan added, referring to Amazon.

Good Lord. The drama.

A good first step, if Bezos was actually serious in his intent to add ideological diversity to Pravda on the Potomac, would be firing the vile and worthless Eugene Robinson, Rubin, and the other wretched and dutiful Dhimmi-crat stenographers/trained seals/shills/lapdogs/propagandists.

You have to realize that Bezos’ definition of a “conservative” is someone who only wants to imprison Trump voters.

I’m pretty sure I can do without a daily dose of conservative apologists articles entitled “The Conservative Case for Abortion”, “The Conservative Case for Gun Control”, “The Conservative Case for Assassinating Trump”….

It would be better if they resigned. Then there won’t be any severance package and they wouldn’t be eligible for unemployment.

I see that somewhere you picked up my renaming of the Compost. Thank you.

You mean actual diversity and inclusion from the DEI gang?

BWHAHAHAHAHAHA

prime liars day 365

You mean hire conservatives to SAVE the paper? Noooo, Dems like to get control of something to destroy their market, and then the business or the institution and then blame Republicans for the collapse..

henrybowman in reply to Whitewall. | October 28, 2024 at 2:02 pm

Exactly. Too little, too late, Jeff.

“is keen on gaining a more ideologically diverse readership”

I’m more keen on delivering them well-deserved justice by watching their libtard subscriber roll implode, and then salting the remaining earth.

Robert Kagan is married to Victoria Nuland.

He’s a warmongering chickenhawk neocon who abandoned ship, joined the democrats, and voted for Hillary Clinton in 2016, because he’s a True Republican at heart.

Kagan co-founded the neocon think tank Project for the New American Century with William Kristol. During the 2008 presidential campaign he served as foreign policy advisor to John McCain. Kagan was on the 25-member State Department’s Foreign Affairs Policy Board under Secretaries of State Hillary Clinton and John Kerry.

Kagan went from working for “Republican” John McCain in 2007 to joining Clinton-Kerry in 2008. Curious how all of the old school “compassionate conservatives” were fifth columnists.

henrybowman in reply to Tiki. | October 28, 2024 at 2:05 pm

“Compassionate conservative” was just another liberal neologism designed to deceive, like “women’s health.” And so were the Bushes, both “Hitler” and “Hitler II.”

destroycommunism | October 28, 2024 at 11:30 am

so then it would appear Kagen already knew of the bezos/trump connection and didnt resign before?

As usual, Leftists are enraged by the notion that “He who pays the piper calls the tune.”

And we know that they’re going to hire ‘conservatives’ like Rubin or Kristol.

Gah comment posted before I was done.

And we know that they’re going to hire ‘conservatives’ like Rubin or Kristol.

Who will promptly make ‘the conservative case for doing everything the left wants’.

The fact that they’re losing their minds over even doing THAT just demonstrates how far off the reservation the left has gone.

real conservatives or Jen Rubin “conservatives”?

Dolce Far Niente | October 28, 2024 at 12:10 pm

It is unconscionable that Bezos would require journalists to work alongside Nazis, so it will be Bill Kristol™ brand conservatives at the WaPoo.

If he’s legitimately trying to reform the paper, I hope he’s ready to sustain severe losses over the long term.

Personally I think it’s a case of too little too late. If he really had a desire to reform the paper, he should have made drastic moves as soon as he attained ownership. Waiting this long makes the move look insincere.

The paper’s brand has lost any credibility with anyone to the right of Karl Marx and it will take a LOOOOONG time to gain it back if it’s even possible to do so.

So the only subscriber base they have right now is the left (and maybe political talking heads on the right who subscribe just so they can pillory the stories on their outlets).

Making a sharp turn to the center will alienate their existing subscriber base, but the ill will already existing on the right toward them is going to prevent any concurrent influx of right wing (or even centrist) subscribers.

So, Bezos had better be prepared to absorb enormous losses over the next decade while he attempts to reestablish some trust.

As I said, I’m not sure that’s even possible, or if that’s actually his goal, but if it is, it’s going to be a long, hard journey.

“Waiting this long makes the move look insincere.”
    What you mean “look,” kemosabe?

henrybowman in reply to Sailorcurt. | October 28, 2024 at 2:10 pm

His only real shot is to “sell” the paper to an obscure shell company that he still owns (better hide it well) and THEN make those editorial changes. Try to scrape off the ill will first, like a saddlehorse heading for a low branch.

McGehee 🇺🇲 Trump 2024 | October 28, 2024 at 12:20 pm

Best case: Bezos recognizes that the trajectory of the 2024 campaign has proven that the incestuous Democrat-media complex has completely lost the plot and fallen prey to Death by Participation Trophy — and staying afloat requires a fundamental transformation.

Most likely case: Bezos has decided that if the incestuous Democrat-media complex can’t get out of its own way long enough to gaslight the rubes effectively enough to defeat Trump, someone with two brain cells to rub together needs to shake things up.

More Lenins, less Stalins???

Much ado about nothing.

Does the phrase, “Too little, too late” ring a bell?

My suspicion is that Bezos, like Musk, decided that Trump was the only choice and, out of deference to WaPo, chose that there be no endorsement by them.

E Howard Hunt | October 28, 2024 at 1:35 pm

I am unable to vote because WAPO has not made an endorsement.

When Bezos urged WaPo to hire “more” conservative opinion writers, I’m pretty sure that, in WaPo’s case, that would translate into hiring “one” conservative opinion writer.

Today’s left calls their inability to exercise censorship and viewpoint discrimination, “Fascist”.

ThePrimordialOrderedPair | October 28, 2024 at 11:09 pm

What a joke. I just read Bezos’ own op-ed in his rag and he just spouted total BS the whole way through, never once even coming close to admitting that the WaPo is one of the great purveyors of lies and distortions (many of them wholly intentional!). He made it sound as if the WaPo is always telling the truth about everything but that … people just don’t believe, any longer, that the WaPo is telling the truth. It was retarded.

We must be accurate, and we must be believed to be accurate. It’s a bitter pill to swallow, but we are failing on the second requirement.

But everything is honky dory on the first … ROFLMAO!!

Bezos is a despicable twerp and is going to remain a despicable twerp to the very end.

I am hoping that if he has any genuine respect or lack of ill will towards Tolkien he will also address the issue of lack of balance in his culturally relevant Amazon.

Rings of Power desecrated Lord of the Rings in a quest for more woke propaganda.

This does show that Jeff Bezos the human being isn’t exactly the same as what Jeff Bezos’ properties do but I would like to see some move against the negatives because lets be blunt when you own Amazon you are defined by what Amazon is doing no matter how nice you are as a person.

TLDR version

I would like to also see him make Amazon go from poisonous to pleasant in culture.

ThePrimordialOrderedPair in reply to Danny. | October 29, 2024 at 2:58 am

That headline is complete BS. That is not what the despicable twerp Bezos wrote, at all. Of course, coming from HotAir no surprise.

Bezos, the d-bag, is claiming that his great paper and his great journalists are providing truth to an ungrateful public, who would rather listen to terrible misinformation on podcasts – by Bezos’ moronic words.

Bezos is a slimy slug who needs to be salted.

“More” conservative opinion writers? I didn’t know they had any to begin with. Besides. Opinion writers are not the problem. The problem for the media is opinion masquerading as objective reporting. That’s what he has to fix. But in reality, it’s already too late. Newspapers are done. They just don’t seem to know it yet.

Laughable. What conservative would want to work at WAPO? The far left wing activists who are entrenched their would be keying your car in the parking lot, sabotaging your computer, and doing everything they could to get you fired. The ‘tolerant left’ will tolerate nobody who dares deviate from a progressive world view.
