In addition to all the events listed above, there is something else.
There is a “consent of the governed” factor in play that is being ignored by both sides as hard as they can. For a generation at least the integrity and legitimacy of our electoral system [and the honesty of our system of government] have been increasingly questioned every electoral cycle. It has reached the point where even in a forum such as this much of the basis for discussion is how blatant the electoral theft will be.
It can also be argued that we really are not still one country, one people, and one civic culture that tolerates/encourages differences. To be honest, the Constitutional Republic has been a short exception to basic human nature throughout its history. And it is gone. There are multiple calls in the streets, on the media, and in government for the elimination of both other people and the destruction of the Bill of Rights for those who are considered the enemy. Right now, the American Left is overjoyed at the damage done to the Kulaki by Hurricane Helene, boosted by the fact that it will limit the ability of the people there to vote against them. This is reinforced by their joy at the coming impact of Hurricane Milton Wednesday in Florida. And for both hurricanes, the Leftist Federal government is working as hard as it can to delay aid to non-Leftists. I admit that if the “Big One” comes to the west coast, I will consider it damage done to a hostile foreign country. And we all see every hostile foreign invader pour across our borders with no attempt to enforce American sovereignty and law at any level by the Leftists who rule us.
Put this all together, and we have to ask when will the electoral cheating and the multiple systems of law enforcement reach the point where there is no longer sufficient consent of the governed to hold us together as a nation. My ancestors had a concept that judged the legitimacy of a dynasty based on if the “Mandate of Heaven” was still held by those in power.
IF we have elections in November, will the legitimacy of the reported vote count results be such that the Mandate is considered to still exist no matter which side “wins”? Or do we revert to the Clausewitzian human norm?
