ABC Must Announce the Rules of the Trump, Harris Debate

Hot mics, seats, and notes? It’s a “he said, she said” situation. Tell us the debate rules, ABC.

We’ve seen news swirl that Kamala Harris wants hot mics during her ABC debate with Donald Trump.

Politico also says the campaign wants seats and notes.

Have candidates ever used notes during a debate?

Hot Mics

The Democrats demanded that CNN turn off the microphones so that Trump couldn’t interrupt Joe Biden during the June debate.

Harris totally wants an “I’m speaking” moment with Trump:

“We have told ABC and other networks seeking to host a possible October debate that we believe both candidates’ mics should be live throughout the full broadcast,” BRIAN FALLON, the Harris campaign’s senior adviser for communications, told Playbook in a text message last night, confirming our reporting. “Our understanding is that Trump’s handlers prefer the muted microphone because they don’t think their candidate can act presidential for 90 minutes on his own. We suspect Trump’s team has not even told their boss about this dispute because it would be too embarrassing to admit they don’t think he can handle himself against Vice President Harris without the benefit of a mute button.”

It’s clear the veep’s team is hoping to get Trump to lose his cool on mic.

“She’s more than happy to have exchanges with him if he tries to interrupt her,” one person familiar with the negotiations tells Playbook. “And given how shook he seems by her, he’s very prone to having intemperate outbursts and … I think the campaign would want viewers to hear [that].”

Trump said no because they’ve already agreed to the rules given for any future Biden debates, which included muted microphones:

“Enough with the games. We accepted the ABC debate under the exact same terms as the CNN debate. The Harris camp, after having already agreed to the CNN rules, asked for a seated debate, with notes, and opening statements. We said no changes to the agreed upon rules,” JASON MILLER, senior adviser for Trump, told Playbook last night. “If Kamala Harris isn’t smart enough to repeat the messaging points her handlers want her to memorize, that’s their problem. This seems to be a pattern for the Harris campaign. They won’t allow Harris to do interviews, they won’t allow her to do press conferences, and now they want to give her a cheat-sheet for the debate. My guess is that they’re looking for a way to get out of any debate with President Trump.”

Notes and Seats?

Fallon also said that Trump, Harris, and ABC agreed the candidate could sit down and use notes:

As for Miller’s assertion that Harris wanted a seated debate with notes, Fallon pushed back vigorously. “All three parties (Trump, Harris and ABC) have agreed to standing and no notes, and we never sought otherwise,” he said. Another source familiar with the negotiations laughed when we asked if Harris ever asked to be seated, saying it wasn’t true.

He Said, She Said, But What About ABC?

Politico said Biden’s campaign agreed to the rules during the CNN debate, not the Harris campaign.

The publication also wrote that at the time all three agreed to the debate, “the Harris campaign did so while making clear to the network that the rules themselves were up for debate.”

Trump proposed new rules such as a live studio audience.

CNN tried to make Trump appear to say that he only wants open microphones. Yeah, the lady cut out the full quote:

“We agreed to the same rules. I don’t know. It doesn’t matter to me. I’d rather have it probably on, but the agreement was that it would be the same as it was last time. In that case, it was muted. I didn’t like it the last time, but it worked out fine. I mean, ask Biden how it worked out. It was fine, and I think it should be the same. We agreed to the same rules, same rules, and same specifications, and I think that’s probably what it should be, but they’re trying to change it. The truth is they’re trying to get out of it because she doesn’t want to debate. She’s not a good debater. She’s not a smart person. She doesn’t want to debate.”

Trump agreed to the debate rules. That the Dems forced out Biden and installed Heels Up at the last minute is not his problem. Let them do the debate with the rules as stated since she is taking over from Brandon. I’m just stunned Trump would agree to a debate moderated by openly hostile press.

[question asked of Trump]
Trump answers right off the bat.

[question asked of Mrs. Emhoff]
“Wait a minute…!” [shuffling paper noises] “That questions wasn’t in the rehears…!” [shocked facial expression]

Betting her campaign is planning on interrupting Trump, then running his response to that on loop.

It is curious that they don’t think she can stand for 90 minutes. Maybe she is a tipped as the rumors suggest?

Absolutely. The Harris camp wants a Mean Trump moment …’ooh look see how DJT treats a woman and a person of color and a 2nd gen immigrant and a historic 1st for a sitting VP/major party nominee… he’s a big old meanie head that no good, decent, virtuous person would support’.

The d/prog have to make this election about personality b/c the majority of people don’t support the Cray Cray neo Marxist policies and totalitarian tendencies that the inner members of the d/prog cult want to impose.

The rules don’t matter because the ‘Vice President’s’ game plan is to test positive for Covid the night before the debate and then cancel her appearance.

He had the mic on w/ Hillary and it was fine he still came off as more likeable than her. Mic on/Mic off whatever, Harris has no substance and is not quick witted like Obama, so she’ll have to rely on prepared zingers based on them telling her all the questions/answers ahead of time and her little notes. She will likely come off as robotic and fake, while Trump will be his usual off the cuff self, like him or hate him he comes off as genuine, spontaneous and flexible. She’ll look like a piece of wood who plays the race card a million times over. Expect to hear them go after Trump about “black jobs” and Harris not being black. But other than race and abortion she’s got nothing. I’ll miss the snarking about golf of course between the two old farts from the last debate, but maybe Harris and him can challenge each other to a staring competition or something.

No way she can stand that long. They don’t call her round heels Harris for nothing.

Yeah, like the guy who WROTE The Art of the Deal would ever have agreed to THAT. “He committed to buy the building, but the details were to be negotiated later.”

I assumed that a “crisis with Joe’s cognitive status” will happen the day before the debate forcing a 25th amendment elevation of Harris precluding the debate since she will be so busy.

Harris wanted the same agreement with Biden, so the same debate rules should stand as well.

I’m sure ABC will ask unbiased questions, such as:
To Trump: “Why are you such a jerk?”
To Harris: “How does it feel to campaign against a jerk?”

That’s why Trump wanted the debate on Fox.

the rules have been announced

we the msm rule

we will tell you what we want to on election night and the next day

any opposition to that will be met with a military act per the sitting president

I think hot mic could potentially be even worse for Kamala. The strategy will probably be for her to provoke Trump into losing his temper or at least coming off as cruel and sarcastic. BUT:

I don’t think she has the fineness to bait him without looking like a seven year-old in the playground.

If he treats her gently like a foolish little girl, and just asks things like ” could you expand on how you intend to do/pay for that?” I think she’ll sink pretty quickly. At least with muted mics she could memorize the answers to the questions she’s going to get.

True. I think Trump doesn’t really care. Harris is no match for him. He’s just toying with her, as a cat toys with a mouse before killing it. Drives up the fear and stress. Then at the last minute, agree to her demands. She drops her guard, and whamo, Trump dumps on her in the debate (under her rules). He’s setting her up.

I think Trump will capitulate as he did with Biden, as counterintuitive as it seemed at the time. I knew that Biden had the mental acuity of an unplugged Commodore 64 but I don’t think that Joe & Jane SixPack did. That gave the evil witch of the House (Nancy) the opening she needed to throw Joe overboard.

Harris is no better than Joe. I don’t know what afflicts her to make her act the way that she does but man oh man she is an absolute dunce.

And I’m pretty sure most of the commenters here could do a decent job if debating without a script. For crying out loud, people think about this stuff all day every day.

Fallon also said that Trump, Harris, and ABC agreed the candidate could sit down and use notes:

This is contradicted by the quote you provide immediately after! Is it a typo?

There seem to be quite a number of contradictions flying around. The only fact that seems to be true is that Harris is trying to renegotiate the rules of a debate Trump already agreed to. She should have to live up to whatever Biden agreed to.
Her handlers are afraid that if she is left to talk on her own America will get a reminder of what an empty suit she is. Her only hope is to have Trump interrupt her and play the victim.
