Biden on Peaceful Transfer of Power: ‘If Trump Wins, No, I’m Not Confident at All…I Mean if Trump Loses’

Saying the quiet part out loud?

No wonder the man behind the curtain doesn’t like it when President Joe Biden does interviews.

He’ll say the quiet part out loud, as he did in an interview with CBS. The network recorded the interview and will air it on Sunday.

I’m shocked they didn’t edit this out:

Robert Costa: Are you confident that there will be a peaceful transfer of power in January 2025?

Biden: If Trump wins, no, I’m not confident at all. I mean, if Trump loses, I’m not confident at all.

Huh. Oh really…because that sounds like an insurrection.

will fjb be charged with having taken confidential records out of the wh when he was vp???

So one Dem tells us they’ll try to block Trump from taking office, and now Biden tells us there will likely be violence if Trump wins.

Likely? Guaranteed. Another summer of love.

Violence is not inconsistent with a peaceful transfer of power. There was violence in 2016 and 2020, but in both cases the transfer of power went on peacefully, unaffected by the violence outside.

If Trump loses then the transfer of power from Biden to Harris will be a friendly affair, so how could it fail to be peaceful, regardless of what violence might be taking place elsewhere? But if Trump wins, it is at least conceivable that the transfer of power might be less than peaceful, if the Dems refuse to go.

“If Trump loses then the transfer of power from Biden to Harris will be a friendly affair, so how could it fail to be peaceful, regardless of what violence might be taking place elsewhere?”

This is the problem with his final response. It’s nonsensical. The question about a “peaceful transfer of power” can only concern a Trump win, not a Trump loss. Whether or not pro-Trump forces attempt to interfere with the transfer of power from Biden to Harris is a distinctly different question, which wasn’t asked.

difficult to fully comprehend the power and destruction of a hurricane, an avalanche, a tornado until you’ve actually witnessed one in action

similarly, over the last three years or so, we’ve dismissed the first-person accounts of immigrants who’ve survived ” cultural revolutions ” in china, north korea, etc. with the old saw ” it can never happen here ”

it can happen here–and for the realists in the crowd being aware and being prepared will likely make all the difference

the first week in november thru the first week in january will tell the tale

Does he even know what office Trump is running for?

I think what Biden said was dementia gibberish. He would not have pubicly said that FJB would not leave office/power peacefully, even if that was privately intended. His context was Trump still being President and losing.

I think what Biden said was dementia gibberish.

gibberish or no, fjb and jill have not realized that after the first week in january or so, what use to those in power could they possibly be ?–and yet they know all those uncomfortable details

    Crawford in reply to jb4. | August 7, 2024 at 9:05 pm

Likely, but I’m more concerned with how street-level Democrats will interpret his remarks.

    Milhouse in reply to jb4. | August 8, 2024 at 1:03 am

Yes, I think this is likely. He thinks it’s 2020 and Trump will resist leaving. Which didn’t happen.

    DaveGinOly in reply to jb4. | August 8, 2024 at 1:47 am

Wow. Your statement approaches the same level of gibberish. The question was about the near future, when Trump isn’t president but when he might be scheduled to assume the office. When “Trump was still being president” was years ago, and that transfer of power wasn’t the subject of the question. Biden’s answer was plainly in response to the question’s positing of a future event, as his use of a future verb tense (“wins” and “loses” not “won” and “lost”) makes evident. He understood the question, he just flubbed both answers. (Because the first answer provides bad optics and even if true shouldn’t have been said out loud, and the second answer makes no sense – why would there be a problem with the transfer of power if Harris wins?)

Milhouse in reply to DaveGinOly. | August 8, 2024 at 7:10 am

No, I think jb4 is correct. The point isn’t what the question was about but what Biden thought it was about. And jb4’s suggestion makes sense to me: He forgot that it’s 2024, he’s the president, and Trump is the challenger. He thought it was 2020, Trump was the incumbent and he the challenger, and his answer reflects that.

DaveGinOly in reply to Milhouse. | August 8, 2024 at 1:19 pm

His reply in this single instance may lead you to that conclusion. But I believe I know why he makes such gaffes because I’ve noticed a pattern to them.

When a person is asked a question, they formulate a response while thinking thoughts related to the question and to the reply being formulated and delivered. What Joe says out loud seems to be related to the thoughts he may be having after hearing a question, and he is unable to screen those thoughts out of his reply. This mixing of his response with his internal narrative causes him to misspeak. That’s what he did in this situation. He didn’t think it was 2020, but he was thinking about 2020. His inability to screen out his background thinking from his spoken reply to a question once again led to a gaffe.

Consider this the next time he makes a gaffe (in three, two, one…) in response to a question. First imagine what thoughts may be arising in his mind in response to a question, then listen to his response. If he gaffes, you will hear those thoughts interfering with his reply.

Oh, do tell!

I’m not really sure what the demented pedophile is actually trying to say. If Trump wins I don’t expect him to Simply turn over power peacefully. It’s not the Communist way however, if Harris wins he sounds like he’s not going to do it then either. That would be surprising since she’s another communist

You do get these gems with someone with no brain filter.

Doddering old fool.

Prez “Too imbecilic to run; not too imbecilic to control nuclear launch codes” inadvertently exposed the truth that when Democrats lose cities burn (and the perps walk); whereas when Trump lost in 2020 no similar level of violence happened (despite the Democrat propaganda campaign claiming otherwise). Some of those protestors are still rotting in pre-trial detention and being subjected to various abuses like frequent prison changes and solitary confinement. Which side is Nazi-like again?

E Howard Hunt | August 8, 2024 at 9:24 am

If Trump wins it will be mostly peaceful.

There’s only one important word in all if that.

‘If’.

He’s not sure or they’re not sure they’ll be able to cheat enough.

Ummm … Joe, you’re the one who …. oh, nevermind.
