Progressives Urging Kamala Harris Not to Pick PA Governor Josh Shapiro as Her Running Mate

Kamala Harris has reportedly narrowed down her possible picks for a running mate to four or five people and one man on the list is Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro.

Progressives in her party are urging her not to choose Shapiro. Why do you suppose that is?

The Hill offers one laughable reason:

Progressives urge Harris to consider Beshear, Walz for VP, not Shapiro

A group of progressive leaders is urging likely Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris to consider Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) or Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear (D) as her running mate and rule out Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro (D), as the party seeks to consolidate its base ahead of November.

Close to 50 progressive leaders hailing from states ranging from California to Kentucky — including the originator of the coalition efforts, California Democratic Party Progressive Caucus Chair Emeritus Amar Shergill — signed onto a letter released Tuesday telling Harris that they “whole-heartedly” endorsed her campaign while noting that “it is difficult to overstate the importance of your decision in selecting a Vice-Presidential running mate.”…

The letter noted in particular that they both “represent and connect with” rural areas and would be the “perfect candidates” to allow the party to bring those voters back into the fold in November.

At the same time, the progressive argued that while Shapiro is a “valued member of the Democratic coalition,” he has become known for his “shortcomings as a national candidate,” including “controversial policy decisions” like his backing of school vouchers.

Really? School vouchers? That’s why the progressive left is against Shapiro as a choice and nothing else?

In a recent article at The New Republic, David Klion came right out and said it:

The One Vice Presidential Pick Who Could Ruin Democratic Unity

This is a hopeful moment for the whole left-liberal coalition. The vibes, for once, are good. Almost every leftist I know is excited about Harris and thinks Trump is beatable. With a newly united party behind her, there are only so many ways Harris can screw it up, but one seems all too plausible: She could select Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro as her running mate…

Unfortunately, Shapiro also stands out among the current field of potential running mates as being egregiously bad on Palestine. It’s not just that he, like many Democrats, is an outspoken supporter of Israel—though he certainly is, having championed Israel’s war against Hamas consistently and without any apparent concern for Palestinian civilians. Shapiro has, moreover, done far more than most Democrats to attack pro-Palestine antiwar demonstrators, in ways that call into question his basic commitment to First Amendment rights.

In his previous role as Pennsylvania attorney general, Shapiro championed the state’s constitutionally dubious anti-BDS (boycott, divestment, sanctions) law against Ben & Jerry’s after the ice cream maker refused to license its product for sale in Israeli settlements…

Shapiro is an observant Jew with personal ties to Israel; on October 7, he tweeted, “Our family has shared many special moments in Israel and our hearts break for those living this horror now.”

We’ll soon know if Harris is listening to these voices in her party, but she is apparently holding an event with her choice of running mate next Tuesday in Philadelphia. Why would she hold the event there if it wasn’t Shapiro?

the racism anti semetic neo nazi communist dnc shows itself again

but

blame trump will work its way into this

Their antisemitism has burned the only possibly acceptable bridge they had.

Gotta appease the Hamashole wing of the Democrat party though.

Wow. The last molecule on the last flea on the very last hair of the tail wagging the dog. Yikes.

Please pick Buttigig. It will do wonders for your voter enthusiasm.

correct headline:

dnc says j ews are poison

TheOldZombie | July 31, 2024 at 11:22 am

I hope she chooses him.

The entire top of the Democrat Party is pretty clueless about their bases view on Israel and Jewish peoples. And by clueless, I mean they don’t understand the depth of hatred the left has for Jews.

That comes from the constant lying to each other in the party. You can see it in this letter they sent to Harris. Anyone whose paying attention knows the real reason behind that letter. But does Harris and the rest of them at the top know? I don’t think they do.

She’ll choose him and then she and everyone else will be scratching their heads in wonderment because people aren’t happy with him as the VP choice.

Agree completely. While he might deliver PA for Harris and perhaps puts VA in a better place. he makes MI unwinnable and does nothing for them in AZ, WI and NV, which has been moving towards GOP of late. PA and VA alone won’t get it done for them. Personally, I’m far more worried about Mark Kelly than anyone else. Kelly would help them with suburban white women in a way that won’t necessarily alienate the ‘base’ voter you talk about.

I don’t. The gains from reassuring Jewish or other pro-Israel Democrats that the party hasn’t abandoned them would far outweigh any loss of DNC votes.

A lot of Jews who have been automatically voting Democrat and donating to Democrats all their lives are on the cusp of leaving the ghetto. Choosing Shapiro would persuade them to stay.

dnc flipping the coin:

possibly lose allll that money from the j ewish population ( and some votes)

or p off blmplo and risk even bigger riots on the streets

The PA governor would be the best possible pick for the Harris camp.

It would bring in PA. Picking kelly in AZ probably wont help pick up AZ.

That being said, the fact that Shapiro is pro – Israel and how progressives dont want him on the ticket shows how much progressives support Iran and how much the progressives seek to protect the iranian assets of hamas and hezbollah

“…Jew with personal ties to Israel;”
They love to trot this old line out.

Since Rashida actually has relatives living in her version of “palestine”, wouldn’t that mean that she has close personal ties to terrorists and would be terrorists?

Anyway I hope she picks mayor Pete, but I guess it will be Shapiro.

I laugh when I hear all the Josh Shapiro talk. most Pennsylvanians don’t even know who Josh Shapiro is. His greatest feat is that he has remained, essentially, invisible. He even got away with being in on that insane decision to detonate the East Palestine chemical train cars without anyone knowing he was involved.

The_Mew_Cat | July 31, 2024 at 1:54 pm

She could add a clown to the ticket by picking Walz.

You are assuming Harris has a say who the VP is going to be.

Subotai Bahadur | July 31, 2024 at 3:38 pm

I do not know how devout a practitioner of his ethnic faith that Shapiro currently is, if at all. I do observe that the American Left is devout in its submission to the Muslim faith wherever they can be; in no small part because it is pretty much the exact opposite of the cultural and political traditions of the West and Liberty. Islam also tends to consider being J ewish as being a blood crime, regardless of real actions or beliefs.

Therefore, I would be surprised if Harris is allowed to name Shapiro as her VP. And if she does, I rather expect that the organic waste will impact the rotating airfoil in Michigan.

He’s Conservative, and apparently quite observant by Conservative standards. He had the kitchen at the governor’s mansion koshered, and put up mezuzos there, and also takes care to Remember the Sabbath (as commanded in Exodus), if not to Keep it (as commanded in Deuteronomy).

Interesting facts apropos of nothing in particular:

The Shapiro surname is one of the oldest among Jews, going back at least 800 years, to a time when most Jews didn’t have surnames. The family originates in Speyer, also known in English as Spires.

The first Jewish governor of PA, Milton Shapp, was born a Shapiro, but changed his name in the 1930s to avoid antisemitism.

“Palestina,” the etymological antecedent to “Palestine,” is a contrivance of ancient Rome, created as an insult to Jews after the Roman Empire’s conquest of Judaea — millennia before Islam’s founding.

I would wager that 99.99% of European, leftist dhimmis and American Dhimmi-crats are ignorant of this utterly contrived, fallacious and revisionist propaganda history that dishonestly posits that Arab invaders from Arabia now constitute so-called “Palestinians” who are alleged to be the indigenous people of Israel.

Correction — Judaea was conquered ~673 years before Islam’s founding. Long enough to make abundantly clear to the rational-minded that the word “Palestine” has no historical connection to Arabs and to Islam.

You are absolutely correct on this; but when has historical truth ever stopped Muslims from practicing takiyeh to the infidel, and from the ignorant infidel from believing them?

Milhouse in reply to guyjones. | August 1, 2024 at 8:44 pm

Soi-disant “Palestinians” can’t even pronounce “Palestine”, which is why they turned it into “Filastin”.
