State Officials Tell Californians to Stop Outdoor Grilling over Air Quality Concerns

State Officials Tell Californians to Stop Outdoor Grilling over Air Quality Concerns

More nanny-state madness: Officials also want people to minimize the use of candles, incense, pan-frying.

The State of California ratcheted up its nanny-statism another degree, by asking Californians to stop outdoor grilling because of air quality concerns.

South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD) issued an air quality alert on Sunday for parts of Riverside County as several wildfires raged on.

Smoke from the Eagle Fire that started Sunday and blazed through 1,710 acres added Ozone pollutants to the air creating unhealthy conditions.

AQMD urged California residents to stay indoors, avoid physical activity and stray from adding to the air pollution by lighting other fires.

‘Avoid burning wood in your fireplace or firepit and minimize sources of indoor air pollution such as candles, incense, pan-frying, and grilling,’ Newsweek reported the alert said.

Of course, the real problem is actually the wildfires…which are springing up from a combination of bad land managementand forcing utilities to divert funds used for fire mitigation to fuel green energy utopia policies.

The use of candles, incense, and pan-frying is also discouraged.

“Avoid burning wood in your fireplace or firepit and minimize sources of indoor air pollution such as candles, incense, pan-frying, and grilling,” the alert, which was shared on the National Weather Service (NWS) webpage, said. “If you must be outdoors, keep the time brief and wear a tightly-fitted N-95 or P-100 respirator to help reduce exposure. Limit the use of gasoline powered lawn and garden equipment.”

The South Coast AQMD also urged people to remain indoors with their doors and windows closed or seek alternative shelter if they smell smoke.

“Avoid vigorous physical activity and run your air conditioner and/or an air purifier,” the alert said. “If possible, do not use whole house fans or swamp coolers that bring in outside air.”

Currently, I am monitoring a brush fire that is broken out close to the home of a family friend.

A fast-moving brush fire blackened 50 acres in northeastern San Diego County Wednesday afternoon, sending smoke billowing over the region.

The blaze dubbed the Grove Fure is burning in hilly, rural terrain, and no structures faced an immediate threat as of 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The blaze broke out about 1 p.m. in the Sunshine Summit area, north of Oak Grove and east of Palomar Mountain, according to Cal Fire.

Within two-and-a-half hours, the flames had charred roughly 50 acres as ground crews and personnel aboard air tankers and water-dropping helicopters worked to halt the spread of the blaze, said Mike Cornette, a fire captain with the state agency.

The cause of the fire was not immediately clear, though there had been reports of lightning in the area shortly before it erupted, Cornette said.

The fire is still not contained, and if the wind kicks up…well, it could be problematic.

And I am sure that fire is putting out more carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, and particulates than all the grilling and pan-frying going on in the state.

The fact that state officials are focusing on candles and outdoor grills demonstrates perfectly the silliness and incompetence of California’s officials and politicians.

“No” is the appropriate response

I believe that proper analogies would be grains of sand on a beach and drops of water in a bucket.
Then again, these are some of the same people who believe that gun control is appropriate if it only saves one life.

I guess burning styrofoam in the backyard (how I celebrate Earth Day) would also be viewed as “bad”?

No, the appropriate response would be a very strong fuck you

Consider going somewhere the State govt doesn’t believe it has the authority to provide permission either explicit or implicit for grilling, frying or lighting a candle.

stevewhitemd | July 26, 2024 at 2:36 pm

How many of these new fires were caused by arson?

smooth in reply to stevewhitemd. | July 26, 2024 at 4:01 pm

No that isn’t accurate. The biggest source of CA wildfires is dry lighting strikes on rocky mountain tops in wilderness, that rages out of control for months because of strong winds and no way to get water on it. That’s been going on for millions of years before human activity. It is natural actually.

The next biggest cause of wildfires in CA is from power lines downed by high winds. Those might be “preventable” and caused by human activity, but not arson.

After that are the wildfires caused by dumbass activities like fireworks and campfires.

Arson happens but its not the leading cause.

This fire called the Park Fire appears to have been caused by man pushing flaming car into ditch. No known motivation at this point. But its CA so wackos do things.

“”The biggest source of CA wildfires is dry lighting strikes on rocky mountain tops in wilderness””

Well, the answer is obvious. Ban lightning.

        Tiki in reply to txvet2. | July 26, 2024 at 6:15 pm

In the same way we ban hurricanes along the entirety of the gulf coast and tornadoes in tornado alley and massive Texas wildfires like the Smokecreek fire that burned 1.2 million acres.

Next they’re going to tell them to start pissing in their backyards like their dogs to conserve water.

The Freedom Of American Dissent (FOAD) think tank has just issued a white paper urging all politicos in California to hold their breath indefinitely to curb CO2 emmissions.

Thank you.

About that last paragraph: can black women also be birthing people? And they can only be cared for by other black people, birthing or otherwise? What about me? I’m disgruntled, white and a woman. I was once a birthing person, but now I’m not. Does this create a new problem? IDFK!

There may, or may not, be legitimate air quality issues, but there is no doubt that something really stinks in California.

The present Park fire is over 160,000 acres and not contained. Arson of course.

They’re eventually going make everyone eat their bugs raw, aren’t they?

irishgladiator63 | July 26, 2024 at 3:38 pm

“AQMD urged California residents to stay indoors, avoid physical activity and stray from adding to the air pollution by lighting other fires.”

What precisely does “stray from adding to the air pollution” mean? I thought it was a typo but I can’t think of another word that fits except for “refrain” but that seems like an odd typo.

    henrybowman in reply to irishgladiator63. | July 26, 2024 at 4:01 pm

Maybe he couldn’t decide between refrain and restrain, and just lunged for the brass ring.

    amatuerwrangler in reply to irishgladiator63. | July 26, 2024 at 9:46 pm

Me, being a simpleton, would have simply said “…and not add to the air pollution…” But, simpleton or not, I would have restrained myself from saying stupid stuff about candles, BBQs, and all and merely told people to stay out of the smoke and wear some kind of protection if they had no choice about leaving their home.

For the record: its 1830hr here in the central Sierra foothills and the semi-local news is telling us the Park fire is now at 260K acres and uncontrolled. The burning vehicle story on the origin is verified by the Butte County DA and the person is in the jailhouse (with 2 prior felony convictions).

One wildfire in CA produces more greenhouse gas that all cars on CA freeways in one year.

But CA wants to ban gas engines??

I can see not running to the back yard to grill up some steaks in the middle of a brush fire, but this sounds like they are trying to slowly but surely take away our right to happiness. Why are their solutions always to fall back to the Stone Age? They suck all of the fun out of life. Actually they are playing with fire with these asinine half assed schemes.

I can see restaurants, including upscale ones, having their cooking restricted. I can also see them moving to other states. And I can see the modern Komissars edict limiting candles and incense appalling any leftover hippies.

If you are in California the time is ten times overpast to get out, taking your business with you.

I believe New York City is forcing wood-fire-oven pizza places to stop using the ovens, or install six-figure-cost air pollution devices on those ovens.

California is likely headed toward banning any form of “barbecuing device” unless they have a catalytic insert, like DEQ in Oregon has been requiring for wood stoves.

Somewhere, somehow, someone is doing something to enjoy themselves and entertain friends and family. All must be stopped.

F ing commies. Is it too late to save America? I will out my G. Paltrow special candles on the barbie in protest

Californians vote for Dems, they can suffer the consequences of their short sightedness

Butte County votes republican. Same with Shasta County voting Trump.

Do we still cheer when their houses burn down? You know, for being short sighted? Or are we just talking BBQ’d foods.

I’m pretty sure that LA county outlawed charcoal briquettes twenty years ago.

What comes to mind is the joke about the God-fearing guy sitting on his roof in a flood, turning down solicitations from a rowboater, a powerboater, and a helicopter pilot because “God is good and he will save me.”

The punchline is that after the guy dies, God tells him, “I opened up a U-Haul franchise right in your town, what the hell were you waiting for?”

Is using a bong allowed or not?
Can I still use the outdoor pizza oven?

Marxists want you eating grass
You can bet those making up this rule won’t be shackled by it

It’s okay to burn certain flags though.

In the future all ranching, farming, cooking, will be banned in CA.

Foraging for raw edibles will be enforced by law, with the elites like Newscum dining at the French Laundry.

Dear AQMD, GFYS.

Huh. We never seem to have wildfires in Florida, the Lightning Capitol of the World. Can’t imagine why…
