Axios is reporting that ‘Top Democrats’ believe Biden may drop out ‘as soon as this weekend,’ which is about as surprising as the sun setting. We’re going to be in a weird, novel place in the political news cycle where one party has nominated their candidates and the other party doesn’t even have a presumptive nominee.
While Dem Super Pacs can start running attack ads against Trump/Vance starting today, the GOP is really hamstrung by not having any firm target to attack other than Harris. And honestly, I would leave Harris entirely alone until they pick someone. There’s no need to make her less attractive to the Dems than she already is. Honestly, this is going to be a tactical nightmare for the Trump campaign for the next few weeks. I think the smartest thing would be to really rally hard for 25A. Make them get rid of Biden. If he’s not fit to run for president, he’s not fit to be president. It would be impossible to not give Harris the nomination if she were the incumbent president.
They can always concentrate on positive messaging. Eventually the Communists will have to name their nominee.
It is also denying precious campaigning time to whoever becomes the nominee. One might say the delay cuts both ways, but the Dems were always going to run attack ads against DJT whether they had a nominee or not. Net negative to the Dems would be my ruling on the scoring of this event.
